Fresh Rewind the Hip Hop gardener. Come join me on my journey to grow fresh veggies and make fresh beats. I am in Houston, Texas, zone 9. My backyard vegetable garden is a mixture of aquaponics and self irrigated planters (SIP). Most of my fertilizer comes from homemade worm composts and fish waste. The rainwater collection system supplies most of the water in my system. #phibetasigma , #PVU
i get really bad worms when growing my cucumber and finally found something helpful called spinosad. it's a spray but its listed omri organic. it's great for caterpillars
Hi! I just got some malabar spinach at my local botanic garden, but have never tried growing it before. Do you think an arched trellis would work for this?
Great video! I really want to start composting with worms. I have much to learn. New subscriber here! I’d like to make a friendly recommendation. Try to keep plastic out of your compost. Plastics can release toxins that are horrible. Also, the plastic is essentially just wasted space because they are providing no nutrition to your soil microbiology and plants. Would be better to have little or no plastic, and more of your compost going into your containers, garden beds, whatever. I really do mean that in a nice way. I look forward to watching more videos and supporting. Be well. - Colin
It is what is left when I put envelopes in the compost. The worms remove the paper, and the envelope window is left. When I sift I can take it out. Also the worms gather on them because of the condensation.
I sprouted them in winter lol. Didn't want to see stunted seedlings so I tossed them. Re used some of the cocopeat and bam I have a sprout in a corn container 🌱 lol
The grating is 1/4 wire mesh. I used what I had on hand. The purpose of the mesh is to help hold in the compost and let the air in. A smaller mesh, weed cloth, or any other item can work. As long as it holds in the compost and lets air in.
I used a pickling package that I got from the tractor supply store. The pickling package has the instructions on it. I think I boiled it for 20 mints or so.
I really liked how you repurposed a plastic bucket to make this sifter. Great idea!!! I’m definitely going to give it a try! Thanks for sharing your idea!
☀️🦋🌼🌻 I love watching my garden grow a little each day, that is my favorite part of gardening.Thank you for sharing your garden videos so now I can watch your garden grow too! I love it so much I started filming garden videos too. I am in my 3rd year of gardening and still have so much to learn. I hope we can learn more from each other! 👨🌾🌺🌻
There are different products out there to convert five gallon buckets into SIPs. They basically have the floor with the perforations and the cup as one piece. That way you only need to buy one bucket per SIP. I've seen a version that even comes with a float for water level checking. And they seem to be much cheaper than new buckets. Of course if you already have the buckets DIY is the best way to go. Reusing stuff is great for the environment and your checkbook. Either way thank you fro the informative video!!
