I would argue weed seeds are not all bad, but there are good kinds and bad kinds based on what you're growing, if in the earth earth, let them ride, they cycle and work to bring up minerals and nutrients from deeper down to fix the soil composition and aeration, however in a bed with a liner bottom I an see how its more of an issue, better to have a controlled cover crop
I do this in WV! I really like finding old rotted trees, especially white oaks, for the rich material but also for the amazing microbial life!! It's an amazing amendment and especially amazing for brewing teas with native microbes!
Hello, Leslie. Thank you for your taking the time to show us your fabulous sweet potato harvest. I'm writing because I question your choice of vermiculite in the soil. It is very poisonous. Check out Libby, Montana where it is a government "super cleanup site" because of the vermiculite mined nearby. They dig down a couple of feet and replace the soil all over that town. Vermiculite was used in times past as insulation which was poured into the walls. Vermiculite exposure causes lung and other cancers. Did you know all this? Is there something I'm missing?
How can I get information on how to make the mills mix. I am on rock after about 3 inches down and just no luck growing anything. Looking into raised bed gardening. Can you tell me how to make the mix ..
I enjoyed watching your garden tour. I got so many tips from this video. I’m going to be looking for some screens to cover my cinder blocks raised beds….Awesome idea.
Wow! I am shocked at the size of your sweet potatoes! Fantastic! harvest! I have never seen sweet potatoes this size! congratulations! I started my slips late, and I'm using bags so I will have to see what happens for my harvest here in zone 9a Pacific Northwest. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
What model is this? I think we have the same. Got mine recently at Goodwill for $80, very expensive! Love this video, I want to use the homemade function and shape my dough, put it back in the machine like you did. I’ll have to try.
It's an old model! Likely from 20 years ago! A friend gave it to me and then we found another at a thrift shop for $5. I love this machine! Thank you for watching. I hope you have great success in making healthy, homemade bread. God bless!
1/3 of my growing mix is a mixture of different kinds of compost and then I add Revita Pro (a complete organic fertilizer of composted chicken manure, feather meal, humates, etc.)
No it doesn't matter. We were at about 85 days with those potatoes and I was just ready for them and it looked like they were ready for me! They are so delicious!
I will store them in my pantry which is relatively cool and open brown paper bags. I'll probably bring a bunch to church potluck so the 25 lb won't last all that long. They are very delicious!
I need help, first I want to say I love your energy and encouragement. I have started a tiny garden on my porch in 4 gallon buckets. I am nervous that im doing it wrong. and i need to harvest soil from the woods I do not know where to look to find it, i have lots of woods around me and am concerned that the soil will be wrong. I do not know how to train my climber plants either. my plants seem to be growing slow to and the raisedbed soil i bought doesnt seem to be retaining water, i am just nervous because i have never done this before. It is wonderful to see the seeds have sprouted but i want to know what to do to take care of them. HELP
I'm not sure how large your garden is, but I would suggest that you start small so you don't have to be so nervous. Maybe just 2 by 6 ft or something like that. Harvesting forest floor is best done when there's not a lot of undergrowth in the forest. Specifically in the cold months. I would suggest just putting in a good growing mix that you purchase . Put in a small trellis of PVC with some plastic netting. Use a couple pieces of rebar and put the rebar in the ground and Slide the PVC over the rebar I would get two 2 -3 ft pieces of rebar and 1 1/2 inch PVC. Buy some elbows to put on top of the PVC to make an upside down U. Then just slide the PVC over the rebar that has been pounded into the ground. Hang some mesh from the top of the U and that'll be your trellis. When the plants grow you can either weave them in and out of the mesh if the holes are large enough, or tie them to the mesh with good twine or tomato clips . You could watch some RU-vid on how to make a simple trellis for other ideas I hope this works for you. Again start small to relieve the stress. Add the best compost that you can find to your mix. That means getting it from a nursery rather than a big box store. God bless you as you move forward. Another idea is to attach the mesh netting to the PVC frame with zip ties. Just make sure they're heavy duty zip ties .
If it's clean it should be okay. If there's lawn chemicals it might get broken down but I'm not sure. If you use this, still use 3 other types as well to get a variety of nutrients for your plants.
I have never tried that before. I find that peat moss can get pretty dry and hard so you'll need to be very careful to keep it moist. Also you need something to fertilize the plants so I would add some compost for sure or a complete organic fertilizer.
I thought I was the only one who micro-managed my bread machine...well done! You helped me to keep adding more flour to the recipe I used, and it turned out great!
Leslie, I started gardening in 2020. I didn't know what I was doing, and I needed help. I couldn't even keep a plant alive, always referred to myself as having a black thumb. I came across your square foot gardening class, I watched it, took notes and off to garden I went 😂 In the Spring of 2020 I started with two 12' x 2' raised beds (24 sq ft) I didn't have huge success, but I grow my own food! We've slowly added more beds, now over 350 sq ft, plus a bunch of grow bags, and some trees! In the past 4 years I have grown over 1,000 pounds of organic food! To some that may not be much, but to me that is huge. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for gardening.
What a wonderful message for me to receive! Thank you so much! May I use this, without your name, as a testimony for our gardening consulting business? What an encouragement you have been to me! Blessings and happy growing!
Enjoy the journey, learn from others, learn from your mistakes and successes, and pray over your garden! Thank you for watching and commenting! I love people like you!
@@LeslieCaza Yeah, I found this old zojirushi at good will for $8. I eventually got another zojirushi, the older model of the virtuoso, used. But I didn’t want to get rid of my old white zorirushi, I wonder if it could get fixed somehow.
Hi Leslie! Thank you for the video. Your garden is lovely. I saw a recent post that you do sprouts in your kitchen. What should I order to get started with that?
Hi Christie! Here's some holders for the glass jars, which are nice but not absolutely necessary. 4PCS Sprouting Stands for Mason Jar - Sprouting Kit 4 Mason Jar Holders for Wide and Regular Mouth Mason Jars Stainless Steel Stand Kit for Sprouts Growing Kit a.co/d/f8KNASr Then if you have a 7 cup glass Pyrex Bowl and a 1 qt wide-mouth canning jar you'll be good to go. I have a spaghetti strainer that comes in handy, as you saw in the video . But again that's not absolutely necessary. I have two different kinds of lids. I like the ones with the little cover shaped insert the best, but the other works well too. Masontops Bean Screen Plastic Mason Jar Sprouting Lids Mason Jar Sprouting Kit - For Growing Broccoli Seeds, Alfalfa, Mung Bean Sprouts - Wide Mouth Seed Sprouting Jar Lids Sprouting Kit Mason Jar a.co/d/0yrj0WG Or Picowe Plastic Sprouting Lids, Sprouting Jar Strainer Lid, for 86mm Wide Mouth Mason Jars, Canning Jars, Suit for Grow Bean Sprouts, Alfalfa, Salad Sprouts(8 Pack,Green) a.co/d/fHqjCNy
Something like this. NOW Foods, Organic Alfalfa Seeds For Sprouting, Grown in the USA, Certified Non-GMO, 12-Ounce (Packaging May Vary) a.co/d/dr5vD7M The flavors can vary quite a bit. Some say spicy/mild salad or sandwich mix. Reading the reviews can help. I like to buy individual seed varieties and then grow them in separate jars. Radish is spicy, broccoli has a strong flavor but not horrible.
Thank you 😊 I’m looking forward to using the re-vita-pro. I won’t be planting sweet potato 🍠 until next month. Perhaps I can get some in a container or two. Happy gardening 👨🏽🌾 💚
