If you do these two things, you will sway them: Show me the EVIDENCE. Show them graphs. Charts. How many black people died from COVID because Trump did nothing? Groceries are not too expensive.... WAGES are too low. Biden wants good jobs, Trump wants exploitive business. Talk about how poor Amtrak Joe was his whole life. Talk about him picking a BLACK WOMAN as his VP after being VP to the first black president. Then you need to show them how Trump is trying to play them. That cheque they got? It was weeks late! It was taxpayer money, not Trump money. Trump thinks they like gaudy shoes. These are men of God, they are not going to be swayed by swag- especially bad swag.
I think what is also important is that we should be doing is talking and working on the issues that were brought up in this interview every day. If you don't tend your garden, your garden will not thrive and could die, it's the same with democracy. Thanks for having Terrance Woodbury and Lavora Barnes on, this discussion gives me hope.

If I think diversity, equity and inclusion are wonderful ideas but DEI as implemented is a crock, then I'm a racist When you ask a GOP voter, they are not voting for Trump as much as they are voting against progressive hatred. People also believe 'unemployment' is a problem because the places they go to do business are always hiring and begging understanding and forgiveness for the dissatisfying service due to being "understaffed". To many people "unemployment" = "nobody wants to work anymore :("

We have a constitutional system; what we need to change is the constitution. We must have majority rule balanced with a bill of rights that works for everyone. Perhaps the Democratic Party should start pushing for constitutional amendments that fix the system that allows for corruption and a few people getting benefits that the rest of us don’t get.
As a progressive, I agree with the idea of progressives turning to Fox and other conservative networks because if nothing else, it may actually mitigate, in some tiny way, the bifurcation of our news media.

Third party /RFK is the way. If you are a dem, R's = Monsters | D's = try real hard but fail to make any change. If you are a Republican. D's = Monsters | R's = try real hard but fail to make any change. Its how our system works. Its one party baby. A vote for Biden is a Vote for Trump. A vote for Trump is a vote for Biden. Its always a crisis, its always "but this time its super important", its always "but this guy is PURE EVIL so we gotta vote Blue and or Red"! Vote 3rd party already. Or is that throwing away a vote? Who is saying its a thrown away vote? I bet its a D/R. Wonder why they would say that.... maybe they are scared of the current monster.
We need to realize that the Democrats are now the conservatives (conserving institutions, laws, democracy, etc.) and the Republicans are now counter-culture because they're anti-establishment. They don't have a plan. Just like any other counter-culture, they only know how to be against things. We need to treat them and their gatherings the same way they have treated our counter-culture groups.
Full disclosure: the thought of voting for Biden makes me throw up in my mouth a little, especially when one considers the levels of context surrounding his, ahem ... "entry" into the 2020 primaries. However, when there are significant numbers of historically and systemically dehumanized/traumatized/oppressed persons and peoples voting for a malevolently extreme form of the entrenched power that imposed a less than fully human status on them, all I feel is doom, even though, or perhaps because, I have a first order understanding of how trauma works.
I am alarmed. How can the orange antichrist legally become president. I think our founders thought they had it covered with the Constitution. They didn’t think they would have a trump, Facebook, Fox, etc Alito, Thomas, Ginny Thomas, etc. when Biden wins, first act of business eliminate the electoral college, Citizens United, protections against a Sociopath authoritarian leaning, fascist dictatorship leaning candidate. So this is my thought so glad that there is the option To post here, I am an avid listener of Pod save america. I think that for the most part. Equality is primary focus of every black male voter. But the unspoken truth is what forces. This decision in my mind is the apparent and blatant disregard to our well-being. There is a Stark contrast of what's important to America's benefit when you can. See that there is constant funding to wars Cross the global when the only measurable contribution to blacks is forgiving student debt
Rational minds don’t conform to labels. You might notice how few unaligned voters exist, that should be alarming. Our governance should not be a team sport. A proud label identifies a weak mind.
I would be interested in knowing the impacts of the Dobbs decision (i.e. overturning of abortion rights) and the mishandling of the Covid pandemic has on any current voting decisions. Its interesting that neither of these issues were discussed by anyone.
How can the Democrats reclaim spirituality, masculinity, and patriotism? Those do NOT seem like features of the Democratic party to me. I don't support Trump or the GOP, but I do cede that, as it relates to those criteria, the Republicans definitely have more to offer.
I sat across from Dr. Martin Luther King at breakfast at the Marriott Atlanta. I was a young and upcoming leader and asked for Dr. King’s opinion on being a leader. This is what he told me and I never forgot, “Vic. You will be a leader when you take accountability and commit to being a leader and don’t blame the system, your boss, or those who follow you. You become the leader you want to be, it is up to you.” You can’t blame any President for where you are. You have to make your own path. President Obama, Dr. King, Nelson Mandela lived their leadership. Every Person needs to understand this. If you want change you have to engage. That was in 1972 it is true in 2024.
Jon, maybe you've covered this, but I'd like to see more discussion (specific discussion) on masculinity and how it affects voting. On your programs, I've heard that some Blacks and Latinos (and probably a bunch of Whites) favor Trump because of masculinity. But doesn't masculinity have to be authentic to be praised. Trump isn't masculine. He's just a blow hard. He's a wannabe masculine.
We can do better📍 🇺🇸 the Preamble - is really a job description by the and for the American people. This lays out the goals and responsibilities of that then newly formed government. 👉🏼 “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. In witness of we pledge our lives , our fortunes and our sacred honor” The obvious objective is that the American people desired a government advanced a Union of States, a Progressive inclusive government, intending a clear break from their most recent past, of kings and lords and nobles. 🙏🏽 While it is not specific about how best to implement this vision of a future it is best used as a judge to our civil affairs, both legally and morally✔️ For us, It is the job of We, the People of the United States, to create and follow the Rule of Law agreed upon. The best way of making progress in this, the American way, found within our Preamble, is to 💙🙏🏽✔️OTE, because you can💙🔔💙
I am very happy that Biden chose Kamala Harris as the VP and that they won. She is smart and tough. I worry about voters that are swayed by the color of her skin and the impact that the former president could have on those same voters if he were to choose a VP of color.
