From the album, I Predict 1990,recorded in 1987. I always thought this was one of his best albums.

I have stumbled upon Tom Macdonald and instantly loved his music. His message goes against social lies of today. I realize that Steve Taylor was very much like Tom back in the 80’s and 90’s. Both are men of integrity and embrace controversy of telling the truth…Wow, glad to hear this song again so many decades later.

Steve Taylor was ahead of his time. Some of his writing was nothing short of prophetic in his assessments of culture. A master lyricist, and one of, if not the most underrated Christian artists of his era.

Brilliant lyricist! I saw him in concert at Creation in 1986 and Lancaster, PA when I was in college in the early nineties…a two-hour drive but well worth it! Many of my favorite Newsboys songs were co-written by him and Peter Furler; good to know they’ve partnered up in performance, too. In this song, I can sense his frustration that such a talented musician would squander his gift and die young: “I get weary, Lord, I don’t understand/How a seed gets strangled in the heart of a man”. Clever, yet haunting. Very different from “This Disco…” but just as effective!

It was never really clear to me where he was going with this song. I assumed it was about the idol worship that people pay to a lost singer, when they should be paying the same respect to our Lord? That's what I was told it was about

Steve Taylor is a true genius. Remember how edgy and creative music by Christians used to be, before that wave of mushy "worship music" took over and killed creativity in the early 2000's? All in the name of profit.

Hard hitting reminder of eternal consequences which most clergy don't have the courage to talk about.... Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain... these people all made fatal choices in their lifetimes which cost them their lives and souls... Was it worth it? Thanks, Steve!

I bought a 7" single 2nd hand back in the 90s it was unbranded & unlabelled like a demo or whatever. All it had was a typed white label with the name Steve Taylor & this title. I bought it intrigued, when I played it I remember thinking what a great f*cken song. Since that day I've considered it a favourite, fate I reckon

I remember listening to this song and tuning in to Mr. Taylor's voice. Reading the lyrics very carefully, he makes some references to Jim Morrison's career and life, as well as his grave. I don't think where he shot this video is the exact graveyard of where Jim Morrison's grave actually is, but he's pointing out the fact that everyone eventually goes to the grave at the end of their lives. Unfortunately, death is still the end of this life for sinners and christians. God told Adam in Genesis : For Out Of The Dust You Were Brought Out Of, And Dust You Shall Return As. Nothing can be done about that, its sadly the destiny of all human beings. No one lives forever in this life, but as far as the afterlife goes that's a different story altogether. It's sad to hear how certain people whether they be popular or not die in this life, but for those who are still alive, as always there's hope. The hope lies within Jesus Christ. It always has been, it always will be : Jesus Christ. Music has always been something of a universal language to everyone who listens, everyone responds differently. The Gospel Truth Of Jesus Christ speaks universally that everyone still responds differently to, but it has more of an eternal significance than anything else. Please.....repent of your sins and put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ today.

I was at the concert in this video. This video was filmed in my home town of Colorado Springs Colorado. It was filmed in the Palmer High School auditorium. I was one of the people up in the front wearing white. If you wore all white and brought your sunglasses, you would get a free white hat, which was made out of paper, and you got to hit to the front. I think he preformed this song 2 or 3 times to film it. I think It was 1989. I talked with Steve after the concert, he signed my hat and thanked me for helping him out with his video by wearing all white and bringing my sunglasses. It was a fun concert.

No offense meant to his fans, but I see nothing of value or worth in Jim Morrison's work. I cannot see it. All I see is a narcisitic misanthrope playing rock star. Am I wrong in feeling that way?
@landonvincent7974
@landonvincent7974 3 года назад
That's the whole point of this song. It's not meant to put Jim Morrison on a pedestal in any way. In fact, it pokes fun at the whole "rock god" mentality surrounding him, and Steve laments that Jim was never saved. People treat Morrison like some sort of deity when in reality he was a messed up dude. Steve said himself that he "didn`t see a whole lot that was attractive about this guy; he was really self-destructive." The song is about the whole rock mentality that it's better to burn out than fade away, and how that's backwards and not true at all.

I remember seeing this guy in concert when I was a kid in Colorado Springs at the auditorium in Palmer high school. They said they were filming it for footage for the video. I wonder if this footage was in it. I was a dumb ignorant kid at the time. It never occurred to me how psycho this song was at the time. I remember feeling like it was a good show though. Reminds me of Huey Lewis and the News.

I love every word Steve Taylor has written. BTW - "POE"S LAW" is a phenomenon where not bright people take satire literally - an occupational hazard for steve
@ThatClassic70sGirl
@ThatClassic70sGirl 5 лет назад
Poe's Law is when someone pretends to be on one side of an issue when they actually espouse the opposite. The thing of it is they actually wind up promoting 90% - 95% of what are right and reasonable arguments; but then throw in some immoral garbage (that represents how they caricaturize their opponent's position) in an attempt to make their opponent look stupid, foolish, deranged, etc. I don't think that is what Steve is doing here; since Steve supported the biblical position on the hot-button issues of the day (including abortion and the LGBTQ movement).
@HenryJuhala
@HenryJuhala 2 года назад
@@ThatClassic70sGirl -- So, what is the "biblical position" on the LGBTQ movement? I am curious. I am especially curious as to what Jesus had to say about gay and transgender people and how he would treat them.

I came upon this video because I had seen Jim Morrison's grave in 1990. I seen it on you tube and now it looks like it has been renovated. I thought this would be an amateur video of how it used to look- the way I had seen it. Instead, I found this music video by a "flash-in the pan" named Steve Taylor.....his music sux ! Even the prop of Jim's grave does not help his music.... Jim would say get off my grave you POS!

For those who have lost their faith, I recommend looking for Christ one more time in the near death experiences. I ditched fundamentalism after 22 years, and still believe Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected (after two days, not three), but I believe God will have mercy on more people than we dreamed possible, and many of other religions will be saved. Because a number of people who've seen the Spirit World testify there is some truth in all religions, eg Betty Eadie, Howard Storm, Joyce Brown. And all that stuff about the desert culture of the First century, the Pharisees etc, Jew and gentile, the merry go round of grace and works, it's just first century stuff. God's message is simple: Love others. Steve Taylor fans always did lean toward excessive intelligence, which can make for a heavier burden on the journey.
