A well made video of the place I was raised in. Moved there in 1959. Changes made, the houses were built in 1933, McTaggart and Mickel and the Factor who rented them out was Gumley's. Sold them in the 70's onwards. Always poor soundproofing, but in general a nice wee place where the children were safe enough playing in the streets. I have nothing but happy memories of living here. Thank you so much for making it. xxx
Unrecognisable from where I grew up. Prefab in West Pilton Wynd, at foot of Pennywell Road. I suspect your video is of the other side of Pennywell Road. There was a tiny park there with swings. A St. Cuthbert grocery trailer would be parked each day just off the roundabout. Started school (1950) in an old house just off Ferry Road before Crewe Toll. Craigmuir opened the next year. All gone now, I believe.
Used to stop & use the wee shop beside Martello Court on the way home from work and there was often some right characters hangin around, totally harmless and seemed friendly enough, 1 day I was in stitches when 3 or 4 young lads were having a kick about on the grass and a half-pished guy (early-mid 50s) ran towards them on the grass dressed in shoes, trousers and a shirt and put in a mad slide-tackle to win the ball and got up and was trying to skin the lads haha, guy's probably a local legend
He came down Pilton Drive, along Pilton Loan, turned up Pilton Place, along Pilton Avenue, down another street I can never remember the name of, along Crewe Terrace, round and down Pilton Place again to the bottom, onto Boswall Parkway, round Pilton Park, back along Pilton Avenue and back up Pilton Drive.
