Kindernet NL never made it to Astra 1A, it stuck with Intelsat 601 27.5 degrees West sharing a transponder with Discovery Channel (Europe) PAL Clear with Wegener PANDA 1 stereo subcarrier audio 7.02 / 7.20 MHz. Kindernet gererally broadcast from 5am - 9am UK time (6am - 10am CET+1) and Discovery Channel (Europe) broadcast from 4pm - 12 midnight UK time (5pm - 1am CET+1).
Like others, I was a child when this was on, but I was privileged to be in the pits for this one as my Dad was in charge of the Scammel team (later the Lemacs team)
I used to have a old book called "Star Cars" which was written by Beki Adam, all about the cars owned by the rich and famous of the time (70s I think!)
I was only very small at the time of this race, but having a father who worked on most of these trucks (he worked for Lucas who made the speed governors for them and he fitted and calibrated most of them) I was already well steeped in the sport! Now I commentate on coverage of the British Truck Racing Championship for BARC TV. Thank you so much for this wonderful nostalgia trip, and I would love to see more classic races!
