If you don't want that stitching you can take your two long pieces and stitch all the way around leaving small opening on the side .turn right side out and stitch closed by hand.

My daughter got me this kit from the public library, as she knows I love doing DIY'S. This video was very helpful and pleasant to listen to. Side note: I LOVE the color on the wall,in the background.
It really depends on the embellishment you've added. One possibility is to take it to a dry cleaner or professional cleaner and ask if they can clean the garment without harming the embellishment. Another is to spot clean the worst areas (usually armpits, neckline, wrist/foot areas, etc) by hand. You could dilute some detergent and scrub areas of needed. Some costume designers will use diluted vinegar or alcohol/vodka sprays to deodorize costumes without washing them. You'll definitely want to spot test on an inconspicuous area first, to make sure there isn't color bleeding.
