Just a few driveway mechanics that have plenty of fun and excitement to share! We focus on learning about anything with an engine by experience ... whether that be good or bad. Shag has provided a shop and guidance for many engine swaps, lifts, and other mods to various vehicles. We are all about the upgrades! We support the do it yourself mentality and hope our videos help. We want to provide others with the guidance to work on their daily drivers with confidence. For some others who are looking to modify their vehicles, we got you as well! Don't be afraid to leave us feedback and come back to see all sorts of the fun stuff we have planned!

Very confusing to find the right press on amazon with so many available but not all can do the tacoma gen1, wish someone would post which one would be the best
Having the right tools makes the difference for sure! The best press we use for ball joints is the ball joint press from harbor freight. It runs about $100 but is worth it. It has some different tube sizes and set up options to get any ball joint out! Let us know if we can help ya out with more information!
Hey Man Thank you for the video - super helpful. Quick question... Your "new" sunroof kit - where did you get it? Is it actually new or a junkyard pull? And how much did it cost? Thinking of doing the exact same thing. Thank you for any info!!!!! - AB in Santa Barbara California running a 1997 4Runner Stick - epic rig. (+ a 93 LandCrusher RHD Diesel that I plan to convert to run on veg oil)
First off sounds like you have some awesome rigs out there in California! As for the sunroof it was a market place find from a guy that has a bunch of runners in his yard. I paid him around 175 bucks for it. I quoted it with a local pick and pull and it was a few hundred bucks. If you can test the motor before hand that is always a good practice since you never know until you get all the way home. Hope this helps!
@@shagsshop112 Hey Man - big thanks for the reply! I pulled the headliner and sorted out the disconnected drain line - the most important task done. :) Took some PBBlaster to the current sunroof arms but nothing improved - press on the <> to open the sunroof, motor sound, click, nothing. Might open the motor, see if there is a carbon build up inside it preventing the electricity from powering the spin of the motor drive-train (for lack of a better word). If that's not it, ya, will look around for a working replacement pull. Thank you for the suggestion about testing before pulling! :) Think I'll tug along a truck battery to the pick and pull. As for the 80 Series LandCruiser (in SouthEastAsia) think is a BEAST! Recent floods - did four water crossings, each over the hood / roll up the windows, no snorkel (on order but had not yet arrived) and the machine just chewed through the flood zones like a submarine. When I came up out of each flooded zone, I'd let the engine run for about 10 minutes with the hood open before the next crossing. After all that, drove it 30 miles back to the city, no issues. Epic machines the old diesel LandCruisers! :) Happy 4-wheeling! - AB in Santa Barbara, California and Sabah, Borneo.
shorturl.at/QL7To This is a shortened link to the kit I ordered. You will also need another wiring kit adaptor for the leds for the older truck to push the power. Hope this helps!
I have my grandpas 76 F100 and shes a beast. Unfortunately he lived in a county that didnt need to be smogged. I do am going to have to buy two cats for the dual exhaust, an oem air intake, and fix a broken line that runs from the choke to the engine. She deserves to be driven but California is making it a real costly pain in the ass for me to get it registered. Fricken sucks.
That is awesome you have a great classic truck that he drove! Hopefully all the new parts make it drivable in California to enjoy the open road! Thanks for checking out the video as well!
Unfortunately the 1st gen hasn’t been touch since placing the v8 in it. I don’t foresee any issues coming up other than where you run your wiring. If you post it or would like to share how your install went tag us @athena_the_two_wheel_wonder and let us know how you did it!
Do you remember how you wired this up? Having an issue with not knowing where to hook left blinker up, do I have to run that wire all the way to the left side wiring harness? If so I’d have to lengthen it, not sure if you had this same issue. Also my reverse isn’t lighting up for some reason. Right side blinker and brakes are working fine👌🏼
I ran the wire from the from on the switch and taped into the blinker wiring on both sides, brake lights and reverse lights all in the back of the runner. That’s odd that yours is not workin correctly off the original wiring.
I'm pretty tempted lowering my 03 since moving to a town with smaller roads, especially for downtown. I have about a 2.5" lift at the moment, but the handling around these roads just ain't it.
@@shagsshop112 In Russia, I have seen such a method. With this installation, I see a problem with the flywheel. And the clutch may become a consumable. So I kept the automatic transmission A340
With how much 4Runners are going for these days, you'll be able to get some decent money for whatever good parts you want to let go. I would be interested in watching a video series if you go about trying to straighten the body/frame up. It looks like a total gonner to me but I have seen some pretty amazing body work done before on wrecked classic cars so who knows. Glad these 4Runners are as safe as they are. I've seen pics of some serious crashes with 3rd gens and everyone makes it out ok usually
Looking good..body lifts are usually looked down upon but I say 1" body pucks are perfect...much easier to get to the upper bell housing bolts that are usually a bitch to get a wrench on. She's looking good...gotta chop that IFS off there!!! She's begging for an axle...I rocked the fuck out of my ifs before I chopped it though...I know the IFS are still pretty tough..mine saw nearly a dozen trips on the rubicon before the sas..you got urself a new sub. Toyota is my favorite game!!!
Glad to hear you like the 1” body pucks! Wanted to get it to a better looking point on the 33s which I think is perfect now! Not completely against the SAS swap… just not ready at the moment… thanks for all the insight and hope you enjoy the future content!
