I’m trying to sing Judy Garland’s The Man That Got away and the C# on the word “to” is killing me. It really sounds like she’s singing full chest on “where’s he gone TO” I don’t know how she’s doing it. Any tips? Thanks so much!
First it’s probably not as chest as you think. Second try changing the t to a light d. Then try singing an uh that ends with ew on that oo vowel. I hope that helps!
I literally had a beautiful voice and after larengitis and all of it went. So I'm starting all over after 2 years of getting it perfected. I was a mezzo soprano and reaching higher notes. Any suggestions?
Fanfuckingtastic. This will help me tremendously. By the way, I like the set up in your house. It's warm and inviting, not stagey. Thanks brother. Liked. Subscribed. Notifications on
I’ve been on complete voice rest due to laryngitis making my voice disappear 100%. In at the end of my 10th day of silence and I have that tight feeling in my throat, it feels like my throat is tying itself inside out, I sing at church and am totally freaked out that I won’t be able to sing like before anymore. I don’t want to talk or do anything that would worsen it, how long of this exercise to get things back to normal?
Hey Ashley, be patient. You will get your voice back. I have found that you have to start using your voice in order to get it back. It might take awhile but be patient and gentle. Also try this video to see if it helps ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RPTU1WJZxz0.htmlsi=f5vJUMnO9g2px8kq
You may be taking chest voice up too high. If you know what your mix voice is try to incorporate that down from higher in your range. You can also try watching my video on Finding Twang on this channel. Also my version of the ng siren would also help. Basically how little air and sound can you use to get to your high voice. This will help you find your mix. I hope that helps!
@@singingwithron thank you very much for reaching back to me sir...I'm taking my chest voice too high actually. Straining is quite frequent and so is inconsistency. People say singing shouldn't hurt but it kinda does sometimes. I know I'm doing stuff wrong and my singing teacher just doesn't know what to do it seems. He just told me I'm a baritone-bass, killing my hopes of singing higher, and so he doesn't even want me to use my falsetto and head voice, which can reach up to D6. I used your technique and my G4 had never felt more free. My hopes of singing higher were revived. I think I'm more than a baritone-bass cause I really struggle to get the heaviness of the tone since singing lighter and softer is just normal for me. I'm going to try what you said Ron and give you feedback. And please, any advice on sore throats and hoarseness? Thank you very much. I really love your content.
I think you should have access to being a baritone and a tenor. Sometimes teachers can only you teach you what they know. His knowledge of singing outside of his chest might be limited. The finding a teacher that is a tenor to help you with your high notes. I promise you, you have them.
The last exercise was super funny, but also super helpful 😂 I can naturally belt pretty well, but this just showed me that I have no idea what I’m doing 😂 thank you very much!
I heard that when I speak like the Cookie Monster for more than three hours a day, it strengthens the vocal folds for Bene Gesserit vocalizations. Is this true???
What do you say about old school breathing styles? All opera singers from the past advocated thoractic breathing. If you take any old singing book, they'll say: "Breathe in your chest." Also if you watch videos of them you will see them breathing like this (Pavarotti, Martinelli, Corelli, Caruso, Callas, Volpi, Melchior, Del Monaco, etc). Thomas J. Hixon also wrote a lot about this topic. Greetings from Germany :)
I was taught belly breathing when I first started singing and I had all sorts of problems. When I finally switched to breathing higher more into back and sides and then supporting from below my belly button did breathing and support finally make sense!
I'm amazed by the distance the wall of the pharynx travel inward. I thought it was just a hollow tube that didn't do much other than being a conduit for food and air.
Hi Ron. Do you have any videos about the "tilt"? I realize the tilt is necessary for classical singers to access notes around and after passagio. I find the tilt is a necessary "movement" to reach high notes but it is undermined when a lot of space or "yawning " is used. Is the "quacking or the "baby" sound a way to find the tilt?
Hey! This video is not about classical tilt and I currently don’t have any videos on that idea. I’ve recently been moving away from that idea and thinking of it more as something attained by the back of the tongue rather than a tilt in the larynx. I’ll half to make one!
omg thanks so much! This has changed my singing in just a minute, how come no one explains it like this? Support really is just that? Wow that was easy.
oh my god, this is the best vocal warmup in this whole youtube universe :-) thank you so much Ron!!!! I bought your book on amazon imediately after whatching this :-)
The tongue out "A" is so helpful I'm a 1st tenor singing in a chorale who had COVID last year and bad pneumonia. It took 6mos. to get my lungs in shape again and I am STILL working on my voice. So discouraging. If I don't warm up just right my high (G, A, B,) just disappears below a forte. I've never had this problem before. The warm up in this vid. is SO helpful. Thanks.
Such an under-appreciated channel! This nugget hit me at just the right time. I’ve been over breathing and can’t wait to apply this to my next session shortly. Buying the book for more!
Very good, complete and effective set of exercises ! Thanks a lot for sharing ! One question: I don't necessarily want to belt; just trying to improve my sound and go up to F with a nice tone on all possible sets of consonent/vowels or reverse. I sing jazz songs...
I think it’s good for a voice to have access to all the sounds it can make. Having access to belt will help your support and other areas of your sound.
The tongue is in charge of the quality of your voice. It controls brightness and darkness and helps you make cool and interesting sounds. So anything that challenges your tongue helps you develop your tone quality!
