A hobby channel devoted to fantasy and SF adventure and dungeon crawl games.
Please note - the let's play and game overviews on this channel are NOT meant to be used to learn the game or the rules. I tend to screw up rules a lot! These are mainly to demonstrate the thematic and narrative qualities of these games, and to give a general idea of atmosphere while having a good time.

I order Tin Realm and Dust Runner two week ago when this video premiered. The games were supped to be deliver yesterday, but tracking said the USPS is waiting on the package. They must still be having issue with printing, or so many orders have been place that they are behind. Anyway, I did get Tim Helm and played my first game. My Gnome Parson had two shards and I was in the second to last room on the fifth level when he was defeated by the Mimic. Very Exciting.

Sounds about right. RU-vid does not like my videos. :). So many people say they never see my videos in their feed. It’s weird. Anyhow, this game is awesome.
Excellent work. I appreciate how you delineate potential content issues without judgment rather respecting your own audience to make their own call on it. Much respect.
passion projects is usually where it starts. Sometimes they go gangbusters from there because people find them and then play the hell out of them. ie: dnd :)
Hello, DungeonDive! I would like to contact you if possible but I’m not sure how besides the comments. Sounds silly, but your channel has inspired me to create games besides just buying them! Would love to have a creative connection if possible. Thanks!
Any news on this coming to the UK? It looks great but I'd like to know if I should stop doing research right now if it's only going to be available in the US 😂
Great video! I bought 'We Deal In Lead' but never got around to it. I will pick up the Wild West book of tables too (although I'll be numbering the pages with biro myself by the looks of it!)
First off, great video, loved the intro as this sets up the play through perfectly! Never really been interested in this setting, but after watching this, has made me think twice 😊 Also, what makes me love rpgs is the feeling of freedom in that ANYTHING can happen, as in your story, so cool that she turns out to be a werewolf(well almost a full time one!!) But in another story, that healer could of been in league with Rose, and could of sent you down some dark path to way lay you, or get you killed 😂 Excellent video Daniel 👌😁
I'm so thankful for the great content you so consistently provide-this one being over an hour long! You are knowledgable within the field of tabletop games in general, it seems, and the mixture with your willingness to share it in a detailed manner makes me happy I discovered your channel. Thank you for keeping up the good work!
that was a really enjoyable video. I've never been into the wild west / weird west setting, but you make it sound really interesting and i'm going to have to track down six gun planet and the hawkline monster.
Runebound 2e was my first game in the Board Game hobby. I am fortunate enough to own all of 1e, 2e, and 3e. 1e and 2e are basically the same. 3e has nicer art but I prefer 2e. This game also got me into Descent which I also own all of 1st and 2nd Edition.
Nice! I'm sure it existed in the central valley, I just never saw it or knew of anyone who had it. Even at the early conventions in the area I never saw it. I lived in a HQ void. :)
Still cannot believe how long this game was in development - truly a labor of love. Always tells an amazing story. I've never actually played with other people - always a solo experience for me and a fantastic one as well.
I had to order this! I had seen it awhile ago and this video sold me on it, particularly finding out it has Cairn-style mechanics, as I love Cairn. Last week I had pulled The Gunslinger out of the archives for a re-read. Now I know why it called out to me. Another great video! Also, I was able to order a physical copy from the by odin's beard website.
The Walking Dead All Out War miniatures game by Mantic has an Compendium book which has extra rules and scenarios using Rick's survivors with Here's Negan. You only need the (now super cheap because it's discontinued) starter set of All Out War to get Rick's survivors minis (the zombies are exactly the same). Someone uploaded scans of just those pages on BGG incase you were interested. Mantic are also rebooting All Out War sometime this year.
Also a huge fan of the Weird West genre. Here's a couple of my reading recommendations are: The Few and Cursed by Felipe Cagno, The Good, The Bad, and the Infernal by Guy Adams
You went so fast through all the cards that you could not see the names of the cards. In fact most the cards you just basically shuffled and glossed over. What kind of "review" is that if you're not going to detail the cards AND the rules? In order to make an informed decision of whether or not to buy the game I'd like to see what actually comes with the game AND the details of the cards AND the rules. 0/10. Not even down voting this because that affects the algorithm. You don't deserve any boost on the algorithm at all for that shoddy speed run.
I have ALWAYS thought The Black Tower would make an awesome RPG!!! However, this system aeems lacking in even as a basic system. We all have our own props and preferences but you actually have to supplement the game with additional information and resources that's an incomplete game...
Not at all. I can’t think of a single RPG I don’t supplement with other things. I love mixing and matching. But this has everything you need in a single book for solo or group play. I just choose to always have more options when I play, and like to show people neat things.
The Gunslinger is so weird because it's inspired by the poem Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came by Robert Browning (1852). There was no thought of this novel becoming a series until much later on. This one is tonally much different than what follows but does set the stage wonderfully for a strange world that has "moved on". To this day my absolute favorite is The Drawing of the Three followed closely by The Wasteland. These core 3 sit differently than the rest of the series. Its before it gets too big and sprawling is more focused in my opinion. You could even start the series with The Drawing of the Three and not really miss much that doesn't get a synopsis.
Another excellent review, Daniel. Thanks for your work. I too loved the Dark Tower series, I lived in fear Stephen King would die before he finished the series back in the day.
Thanks. Enjoyed your content for years. I do not have/take time to play but I am playing vicarously through you (though you do not play through often). Honest enthusiasm is key for me, and you have/deliver it ! Agree on Dark Tower. "Weird West" is right! EDIT: You do some playthrough!
Not sure how I missed this when it originally came out, but the algorithm did a good thing today! What a treat this whole interview was - it's always interesting to hear how designers were first introduced to the hobby. I also started with the D&D Red box, and then discovered MERP, Rolemaster and Call of Cthulhu - If you haven't seen Against the Darkmaster, I'd definitely say to check it out.
I gather there's a large market for sci-fi and fantasy Daniel ,but I keep hoping for a people based Western ttrpg game - purely based on the many real and big figures and major events in that part of your history . ( Would also love a non sci-fi and non fantasy WW2 game focussing on your real service people and events too ) . Thanks for your work from Oxfordshire England .
I was not expecting a full bibliography when I started this video! Just awesome. I loved Joe Landsdale’s weird western tales, will need to pick up the other books you recommended! *edited to fix author’s name
A welcome video. Cairn is my favorite RPG rule set to solo. So I got We Deal in Lead thinking it was going to be perfect for that Shadows of Brimstone vibe, but I got side tracked. Have you tried Ironsworn: Badlands? I know you have some reservations about Ironsworn, but but using Badlands in a Shadows of Brimstone setting is just fantastic! Ironsworn: Delve is a must for exploring the mines and otherworlds and Hexcrawl is a must for the map, encounters and jobs. I highly recommend that you try it and then you could make a video comparing and contrasting the two rule sets.
@TheDungeonDive I'm sorry to hear that. I'm exclusively a solo roleplayer and I love actual plays. I have tried numerous times to get into group actual-plays, but I just find them incredible boring. On the other hand, solo actual-plays are my favorite form of entertainment. I know solo campaigns tend to trail off in engagement as the videos progress. I hate that, because long-form solo campaigns are the absolute best. I do what I can to engage with them as much as possible to encourage their growth, but alas, I am only one person.
I’d love to spend more time focusing on one game, but I also have to think of paying my bills. :). Unfortunately, that means mostly having to keep new things cycling through.
I'm in the "hope you are soon" stage; waylaid with illness. This is exactly what I needed today - enjoyed with a few cups of tea. I'm not aware of any other detailed reviews of We Deal in Lead, so your work here is genuinely appreciated - it's always great to learn a bit about the solo RPG process by hearing you think out loud.
Get well soon, buddy. I'm also feeling under the weather today and even had to go for a sick leave from work today, which I never do. Really don't like missing work as it feels like I'm letting people down but today it was just impossible 😢 All the best, brother ❤
Love Colin's work! Just got my copies of Runecairn Wardensaga Remastered and the Runecairn Bestiary, and they're lovely. Thank you for the fiction recommendations too, I really need to read The Dark Tower!
Just got a steal on a complete Runebound 3rd in fantastic shape, including Unbreakable Bonds and all 4 other expansions! Was even already painted. I already have the Core game and Dark Star expansion that I've painted, but thankfully these new mini's were painted decently so after a couple hours of shadow/highlight touch ups, adding grassy bases etc... they don't look too mismatched from mine. So I built a 100% complete set using the best parts from both to keep as my copy, and will put the extra Core box, plus Dark Star expansion and painted minis up for sale! Good times
I love app assisted games. Especially when you have to play solo. Most of my game buddies have moved out of state, a coupe passed away. Apps like the ones for XCOM, Dune Imperium, and Descent (Journey into Darkness) gives me more choices for game play.
Hi Daniel. I hope you're doing well and if you're not, I hope you will soon. Just wanted to let you know you're my absolute favorite adventure youtuber of ALL TIME bud. Just wanted to drop some love ❤
I'm very much looking forward to starting this, and I'm reading through the rules. I'm not sure if you covered the potential issue (I'm not 100% clear) that there is no clear ending, or exit, to the catacombs? If so, it appears to be play as long as you live or decide that defeating an overseer leads to your escape? I may have read that Alex will address this in an expansion? Also, a bit that has me puzzled is the section on Advantage and Disadvantage on p64 - the text reads to my mind like the opposite of what may be intended, and the example? Not a big issue, I think the example makes it clear what happens but I'm curious if it's just my reading? Anyway, overall this looks really good, and I like your map-making approach - very helpful!
As i understand when i read the infinite dungeon rules, it writes "When playing without a Zorgan player, if there are no monsters on the board, instead of rolling your movement dice, simply assume each die has rolled a 4" i read that as you roll 2 4's meaning an MA at 8 not 4.
