Old-school sports moments, highlights, and full games from the Red Sox.
For anyone viewing this, Red Sox games I would like to add: 5/28/99 @ Cleveland 8/24/99 @ Minnesota 8/30/99 vs KC 9/11/99 @ Yankees 4/30/00 @ Cleveland (Boston version) 6/8/00 vs Cleveland 7/13/00 vs Mets 7/18/00 vs Expos 5/12/01 vs Oakland 9/3/04 vs Texas
Apparently the graffiti on the Fleet billboard at the 8:07 mark was done by a Yankees fan the night before Game 4 in anticipation of a BOS-NYY ALCS. It said “1918” and “Go Yankees” but that part is out of view.
This would be the last playoff series win for the great Indians teams of the 1990s. They'd lose the ALCS to the Yankees 4-2, then lose the '99 Division Series to the Red Sox 3-2, miss the playoffs in 2000 by one game, then lose the 2001 Division Series to Seattle 3-1. After '01, the 90s Indians were pretty much dismantled.
Thanks for posting. I remember this game vividly because it was really the beginning of Big Papi becoming a legend. The Red Sox just didn’t win games like this in the past.
I can only imagine how that pitcher felt. It's always a terrible sinking feeling to give up a home run, and more so back-to-back, but 4 in a row? Dude's history for the wrong reason
Of course, Sturtz goes after the biggest toughest guy on the Red Sox, Gabe Kapler. His ego as big as he is got the best of him, I don't think he realized how tough Kapler was; or that an angry David Ortiz and Pissed off Trot Nixon would jump him as well.
I seem to remember another game at Fenway with more than 1 delay due to fans. Maybe it wasn't against the Yankees, and maybe it was a day game. Or, maybe, I'm just misremembering this game. Thank you for the upload, this game was epic.
I was at that game front row to the left of the Pesky pole. Johnny Damon hit a home run right near me and chop suey hit a home run for the Yankees. Red Sox won 9-5 20 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday.
