Why'd it stop!? I wanted it to keep going! I could listen to Jeff Gage talk about the art, science, and engineering of compost all day.

@jemfly1062 Год назад
Agreed, so could I. Unfortunately, his voice and interesting narrative is drowned out by the overwhelming and completely unnecessary soundtrack. Why are we forced to filter out this non-musical noise sludge in order to hear information and facts? More matter with less art would be far better.

Really nice set up. Do you find you need to monitor and regulate moisture too, or because it’s in the bay for just 3 weeks would you just adjust moisture when transferring it to the next bay? Great concept to have the pre-engineered package! ASP in a box!
@GreenMtnTech
@GreenMtnTech 2 года назад
We're so glad you like it! It's suggested that moisture is assessed at certain times throughout the 3 weeks and can be adjusted a number of different ways. We like to get up close and assess it by feel.
@michaelbryan-brown2412
@michaelbryan-brown2412 5 дней назад
Yes we add moisture every time we move the piles. Otherwise it very hard to get the moisture into the pile if you just try to wet it from the surface.

This is great. We’ve been promoting this as a viable solution for small island developing states, especially smaller towns around islands (or indeed mountainous countries) where it’s just doesn’t make economic sense to be hauling heavy food waste to a landfill at the other end. Love to see an update on this after a while to see how it fairs up to biodegradable packaging etc and if any pre-processing will be required to prevent the auger getting wrapped up in the larger stuff. Also the business / operator model around its operation and more importantly maintenance. But this is fantastic to see, definitely the way to go.

"Designed to handle the material as little as possible"?? Sure doesn't look like it. I have not seen many systems that move it more.
@GreenMtnTech
@GreenMtnTech 4 года назад
Hi Joel, thanks for commenting, Windrow composters typically turn their piles every 3 to 7 days for 90 days. 18 turns to finished product. At a turning speed of over 2,000 cubic yards per hour. Aerated Static Pile systems do turn material less, but are less efficient in the turning process, requiring at least 2 turns to add water using a loader and mixer at a rate of 200 cubic yards per hour. The Turned Aerated Pile system turns a total of 12 times at the same speed as a windrow turner. So you are right, this system does turn a lot of times, but it is less than windrow turning systems that do not use forced aeration and faster than both ASP and Windrowing to reach the same stability levels. We have one facility in Puyallup Washington that says they are reaching a stable product in 26 days using this TAP system. It has been operating since 1999, so they have a lot of experience with this composting method, so our claims are conservative and are achievable by all our clients right out of the box. We have a new system that moves and waters the product 6 times called the cTAP that has a better configuration, and same composting speed of 42 days. Our new Radial ASP integrates turning and remixing and product relocation with one step making the ASP system more efficient to handle as well but handles 500 cubic yards per hour, nowhere near s fast as a compost turner. However it still takes 60 days to finished product, but less turning time than a standard ASP system. What other systems are you referring to that move material so few times and make finished stable compost faster? How much time and space do they take to get to a finished product? If it is real and more efficient we will start offering it. Because that is what our customers come to us for. Best Regards, Jeff Gage

We use a pressure trap system at the lowest point of the piping and it lets water flow out of the pipes continuously

I moistened my curing compost more than I was comfortable with after it looked like it stagnated. The bin gave of a nice earthy smell a few days later and the pile sunk in volume again.

I'm gonna implement that system in my garden. Bc I'm then left with almost no planting space I'm now looking for a sky-high vertical tower gardening system. That also will take care of my problem that in the tropics raspberries only thrive at elevation.
