Soy-er: How the show pronounces it. Saw-yer: How your southern region pronounces it. No matter how you pronounce it, we all know who you're talking about. Pronounce it how it's comfortable to you and forget the gripes. Just my opinion.
"James" could be just another alias, but it makes sense he would reveal his true identity to the man he wanted to take his revenge on. I wonder if he signed his name to the letter he wrote as a kid.
If you consider it unfair. to be loosing your civilian pilot license because of a mental breakdown, I suggest you look up what happened to Germanwings Flight 9525. The rules in aviation (and by extension spaceflight) have been hard earned truths, and almost always had their cause in a specific incident. Therefore, It's absolutely imperative, once you no longer pass a flight medical, you're not piloting anything anymore.
Gordo is hard to like but is by far my favorite character of this show. He is human and has flaws….they explore it further as the show goes on in a really good way too…. Great react as always!
Personally, your honest engagement with whatever it is you're watching is precisely the reason I like you and your reactions. I think this show in particular calls for both emotional investment and constant reflection upon its themes. You're doing great on both fronts, so don't worry. Looking forward to next episode!
Being gay was considered at the same level as gambling or having an affair - you could be blackmailed or do something to ensure the secret was kept. A good series about this topic is Fellow Travelers (Warning, it is explicit)
It was literally listed as a pathology in the DRM (the drm is the official big book of crazy that psychiatrists, psychologist and doctors reference for mental illnesses.) You could lose your job, the place you lived, be harassed, even be assaulted and it was considered your fault. Their were NO legal or civil protections whatsoever.
Being gay in that time *was* a security risk because it made you vulnerable to being blackmailed if the wrong people found out (or, at least, that was the concern). Of course, normalizing being gay would have fixed that problem, but unfortunately that didn't happen for quite some time. I'm still enjoying your reactions, btw. This IS a very emotionally heavy show. It's the only show I've ever watched that has left me physically shaking after an episode. It's worth it though, it's part of what makes it amazing. Also, Captain Ed :P
I don't know how far ahead you are yet Carmen, but I am begging you, don't watch episode 19 with subtitles on. There's an important subtitle on streaming services that is notoriously CANONICALLY incorrect. ( subtitles are often written by third parties not the show production team). Just want to spare you speculating on bad intel. This is one of the best Sawyer episodes, by the by. And pronounce his name however you like, it's all good :)
I absolutely looooved the way you described the relationship between kate and sawyer and how they're essentially good people underneath the surface. And how you see the simmering 'friendship' between sawyer and jack and even sayid. I feel like you GET the characters, but also are very in tune with the show as a whole already and it just makes me excited for future reactions!
Pronounce Sawyer however you want to. People pronounce words differently and that's completely fine. Remember Admiral Souther from The Expanse? Some people pronounce it "Su-ther" and some people pronounce it "Sow-ther" and both are fine.
To be fair Charlie was against Claire being bait. so he didn't have a choice especially when Claire said she was going to do it so he followed the group
Context is important. This was just a few years after 9/11, remember. Good ole boys named Bubba weren't being attacked and killed, their children harassed, or having their businesses and places of worship vandalized.
What were those first few seconds? 🤣 so excited for this long journey ahead, this is such a great show that I’ve come to appreciate a lot more than I did while it aired after watching other reactions over the years. Everyone brings their best, I’d put this up there with Breaking Bad when it comes to a live action series.
People involved with the production of the show worked on the show Nash Bridges ( a pretty standard cop show ) a few years earlier. Some of the actors from Bridges show up on Lost. Not Don Johnson; he believed he was shorted some money, and went to court.
The way you say Sawyer is completely valid, and lots of people in this very show say it the same way. ANYWAY, I love your appreciation for Sawyer's character. I feel like he's probably the best developed character so far Oh, fun fact: the plane crash occurs in universe on the same day the pilot aired, 09/22/04. Red Sox ended up winning the Series like, three or four weeks later, which made this episode outdated immediately XD
I think it's reasonable to assume that Hibbs just conned Sawyer into killing a man that simply owed Hibbs money, and that had nothing to do with Sawyer.
The bird totally died because of Walt. He was reading a book about Australian native birds, his mother and Brian were ignoring him, he made the bird slam into the glass. Presumably Walt has had other similar incidents.
Yeah, it still sucks there. If two women decide to share a husband (love is love, eh o,O). You still can not do that in u.s (officially). I guess, they still discriminate smaller groups (i guess the rainbow group is not a small group anymore).
I really enjoyed your reaction to this episode - you pretty much expressed the frustration I had when watching this episode. I find it funny that in the end, when Zarek was explaining quite convincingly that months or years of trials could be very divisive (and therefore his reasons for setting up the circle) he actually convinced Roslin to issue a general pardon instead.
Jack's Dad saying he doesn't have what it takes mean that Jack cannot handle failure well. He does not have what it takes to move on and deal with that, and his Dad is absolutely right about that
Did you not realize that the Cylons were planning on leaving New Caprica? If so, and if Saul had just put Ellen to sleep, she'd be all alone on this bleak and gloomy planet. Seems kinder to just kill her (which he did).
