Thanks for the great video, I’m about to do exactly what you did, got the bits, ready to go, very informative and clear on what I need to do, thanks again, cheers
Fundamental question: how do you know that the tub of vehicle is strong enough to carry canopy plus roof top tent e.g. possibly 300 kg (and additionally people sleeping in the tent in the stationary position) ?
looks like a fun time. I still got to what for a reasonably priced downpipe for my 2.3l turbo gas Ranger here in the US. We don't get the cool diesel models in North America. We still have our gun so I can't get to upset.
Handy tip, in my opinion. Use a step down drill bit. (Cone shaped drill bit.) That way you cutting from the inside diameter face of the hole outwards, instead of down through the paint. If you must use a hole saw bit or spade bit, definitely tape them over first. And for good measure, finish off with a light touch with a chamfer bit, just to take the edge off a touch so it doesn't catch on threads and whatnot.
Just got the Ascent canopy fitted to the Ranger (2020 model). Wish you showed the brackets being fitted to the window frames inside. Looks good, though. I just want one rack for the rear and one over the roof of the cabin. Mainly to strap down long lengths of poly pipe and the like.
Sorry for the late reply, from Memory, the bars are only good for around 20kg each (off the top of my head) however, we have had our rooftop tent and awning hanging off ours for a few year and always slept 2 adults and a child. No issues so far but I'll leave that big dicision upto you :)

Of course Australia's Black Friday was a terrible incident and my heart goes out to everyone involved. However, Black Friday sales have nothing whatsoever to do with them. Sorry to offend you good sir
@@humbertron1000 if you dont honour your heritage what do you honour. This isnt a yankee problem this is our community not recognising and not remembering a tragedy which shaped the world l grew up in. My father was in a mountain ash forest when it swept through only a wind change saved him. Nothing like two hundred foot giants going off like penny bangers.
So 2 years down the track is it still holding up? Literally the only reason I’ve not gotten one is I read somewhere their steel is Chinese, can’t deny the price tho
Still in perfect condition mate. only thing I've changed is the rear section from side to down facing due to fitting longer shackles. I may do a short video soon looking over it as a few seem interested to know. Thanks for watching :)
Do you remember where you got this brace kit? I've been trying to find it online but unable. Also have the Ascent and want to retrofit some racks to it.
@@humbertron1000 that would be great. I trawled ARB site as well and couldn't find anything. From what I gather they only sell them with the canopies now not separately (which doesn't make sense to me) - I'll give my local mob a call tomorrow to get an answer for sure.
@@humbertron1000 went in to ARB and they had me sorted, knew exactly what I was after. Part number in my case was 17938010. Glad you uploaded this anyway as they quoted 5+ weeks for install, so I'll be DIY and following what you have done. Thanks mate :)
Thanks for the Video! I am keen to mount a 45kg roof top tent on top of the canopy. Can anyone advise if these reinforcement bars would be deemed Ok for that? 2014 Isuzu DMAX spacecab. Would really appreciate replies!
I happen to like the factory “suction sound” when backing off the accelerator. Did the new exhaust affect this - hard to tell from the video but it sounds diminished.
I have actually installed the same exhaust now on my none dpf 2014 BT50 and unfortunately is also gone. I was hoping the Mazda ECU and any other slight differences may have saved it even just a little bit. If I wasn’t getting an intercooler and ECU remap I wouldn’t do it again.
Hey man great video, just subbed. I’ve got the same bracing. Just wondering how much does that increase your canopy roof weight rating? Let me know cheers.
Cheers for the video! How did you go about siliconing the holes? I haven’t used the same roof rack feet as you, but can’t find a way to make them more watertight without covering the whole bolt and nut in silicone.
Hi mate thanks for the video was thinking about getting one of these canopies and ARB Rhino rack for it do you think it would handle a little 10 foot aluminium boat on top with a another bar on roof of vehicle thanks mate cheers
Thanks for the video mate. Installing one the same myself. Just with the gaskets mate did u use the original gasket on the turbo. And gaskets that come with the kit did u just use gasket cement between each join . Does it dry fast before tightening everything down after install
Hi mate, exactly what I’m after for my ascent canopy...where did you get the bracing kit from.i can’t find it anywhere. Like you I prefer to do my own installs . That’ll be much appreciated
Awesome tips mate. If you stuck a solar panel on those bars would you go through the roof with wiring to a second battery or the front of the arb canopy? Keen to know your thoughts as you look like you know what you’re doing and I have an almost identical set-up on my ranger👍 Thanks and keep up the great work.
Hi mate, so sorry for the slow reply. I really should get back on top of things and post more regularly. It's such a hard decisions isn't it. If it were to be a permanent fixture I would probably get a high quality bulkhead fitting which will Be waterproof and go through the top but that's only because I like things to be as clean as possible. Other option would be your suggestion of running down between the front of the canopy and up into the tub through one of the many access holes in the tub, but obviously not as clean.
