What a shame that this dazzling display of talent and virtuosity was disturbed by the constant noise of people speaking and going back to and fro. The audience never settled down to listen in pin-drop silence. And "his holiness" whom one sees in other programs, had instructions and nods and gestures to his underlings for quite a bit of the time from his corner. As for Ustad Shahid Parvez, there will never be another one like him again. His perfection in Sitar can not even remotely be approached by others in the field.
Chill out.. That is the typical environment of house concerts. If you listen to the old greats, like Amir Khan-Sahib or any other of his contemporaries, the audio recordings are FILLED with "wah-wah's" and cheering and etc. If you want everyone to sit still and be quiet as a mouse, go to a Western Classical music concert. Your hard-on for Shahid Parvez is a little much. His "holiness"? Give me a break man, he's an INCREDIBLY talented musician, but he's still just a human being.
No matter if it is not Mishr Shivranjani, or anything else. The point is that here is one of the greatest Sitarists of all time performing for our benefit. Look at the tone of his Sitar, so pure and clean. Compare it with the jhaen jhaen of other sitars. This instrument is his own creation. No one looks after and maintains his instrument as well as engineers its tonal quality better than him. And Sirs, the pure flavors of the various ragas and raginis that he exhibits here is only his forte. No one does it better. He is the keeper of the most difficult and pure Sitar vadan of our times. Listen to this piece again and again. It should enlighten your soul, and if you are a learner of Sitar vadan like me, then the emulation of its various parts will be the best lesson for you. Lucky are the few who got to be together with Ustad Shahid Parvez for this baithak. Rageshree is such a divine Raag, and to hear the beautiful notes coming from his sitar is spell binding.Thank you for giving us this excellent video.
