Hi I'm Mel, along with my husband Alex & 4 of our kids still living at home are enjoying building a life on our 120 acre property in the Wheatbelt, using our experience and knowledge collected, growing up on farms, we are bringing in permaculture principles to steward our land and animals while working towards off grid self sufficiency. My Jersey cow obsession has led me to creating a breeding program bringing old school Jersey genetics to breed homestead milk cows for other homesteaders.

Oh so awesome, thanks heaps for reaching out. No I dont buy chicken feed in bulk but I think that's a brilliant idea, we buy whole grains from an organic farmer and we ferment them for the best output of eggs and meat from our birds. Your best bet would be to contact Milne or T&R or the company that makes your favourite chicken feed and discuss your requirements with them. I would imagine they would be more than happy to accommodate your requirements. Thank you for joining us and WELCOME.
These milking videos are my absolute favourite, I'm so envious, I used to milk 1 cow and I miss it so much. I sure wish there was a neighbour like you near me.
@pennybutler418 our AI techs are (in my opinion) the best in the business. They are called Genes & Jeans and they are based in Chidlow so you won't pay an arm and a leg for call out fee too. I will message you the details.
@timiaxel6327 I sure can, one day if I ever need to assist any of my cows with this. We try to set the conditions so that we lower the risk of this issue.
@@honey-bee-farmstead I think the more exposure and experience we give our animals to situations they may encounter in the future builds confidence to ensure not only our lives are easier but potential owners. Being halter broke is definitely heigh on the list 😃 nice!

@@NaomiJane80 we have the same plan, I'm going to hugelkultur the beds this time so that I can bulk out the beds as well as add microbes and fungi to the soil.
@justme-uw6bz we seriously love this thing, we've been told that it will power our caravan for a week before it needs charging (which we can do solar) so we plant to test this and do a video showing the experience
You may have covered it in another video, haven’t looked yet. Is it possible to cover what to look for and what questions to ask when buying a house cow please?
Yes it's just an adjustable ratchet strap, I don't know if you can buy actual belly straps (I tried to find on Shoof and FMB but couldnt) but this works good.
Fantastic to hear about Gracie, I love watching her on your channel. She is such a great helper. It’s such a shame these days there is still a lot of bullying. Good job on seeding …. We are doing the same . We have learnt that this year that we really struggled with feed and still buying proudness bales to feed all the animals . Love your channel and learning heaps too. She was an absolute darling and is learning so well. The key is to bring a calm confident energy to the milking stall. Her udder is looking really good now, all the swelling has gone down and she is producing us some beautiful milk.
How wonderful to find some Australian farmstead content. Are you in WA wheatbelt. I'm based in the South West of WA on a 100 acres. With beef cattle, dairy goats and and olive grove. I'd love to get a milk cow but not sure if it will ever happen. Now I'm off to check out some of your other content❤
