He does it to block the bridge because lava players usually put balloon behind the lava. And by the time the balloon crosses the bridge it'll go in front of the lava. That way he can easily kill the balloon

also to force out elixir in front of the lava such as an I drag it’s generally the safer play against the deck early on especially with the first lava push

@@DutzCR honestly i think spells first is better. level 14 xbow doesn't typically change most interactions, but underleveled spells will make your life way harder against level 15 squishies who won't die to fireball when they should, or die to fireball log when they should
