I currently reside in phoenix AZ. Do you know of anyone who is teaching Maha Guru’s Silat? Or how I can go about learning? Thanks for your time and help
I don't of anyone teaching his curriculum but he does have an online course, I know it's not the same but he once told me that 70% of his training was solo training... I will be posting more of his teachings from the seminars that he gave at our academy. I hope this helps, and if I hear of anyone in that area I'll let you know stevanplincksilat.vhx.tv/
This makes me very curious to see these done with swords or bolos - how does it work with the edge alignment, like obviously you're going to avoid contact with the sharp edge of the blade, you'd contact the sides or back. I'd like to see how that would work - not being overly skeptical here, just would like to see it so I could practise it.
The next video, part 4, I believe Guro Dan shows it in motion but it's done very quickly. If you want to see more of the blade I would recommend looking up Kali Ilustrisimo, The instructor in this video I link below is Coach Arnold Narzo, he's the lineage holder of the art, but the quick answer is to use the flat part of the blade not the sharp edge and it's really in the way you hold the weapon that makes the difference ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v6xbma2naws.html
Is the Whittier Kali Academy still in business? Since seeing your videos here on RU-vid, I have attempted to call the school regarding taking classes and no one ever answers the phone? I have also sent an email, but no one responded. Please let me know if they are still in business. Thank you.
@@josephflores4786 Oh, okay. I guess no one is manning the phone. Perhaps I will stop by this Saturday morning. I trained at the Inosanto Academy a long time ago.
I had the chance to train with Sifu Bud Thompson back in... 2008 ( i think) he was the origin al owner of the Kali Academy this was held at. I really miss that place ( i moved to Seattle)
He's still the owner. Check out some of the other videos on the channel... It's for people like you that I have the channel for. People who have trained at the academy and moved away or for whatever reason can't train but still want to stay in touch with the art.
I was always glad I had 20 + years in martial arts already when I met Guru Stevan. I could focus on the fundamentals he taught, rather than fussing over technique, combinations, etc.
He's an amazing teacher. I had over 30 years in the Martial Arts when he started doing these seminars at our Kali Academy, with his teaching he raised my Martial Arts ability and understanding to a level that on my own would have taken me decades to get to.
You are welcome and thank you for watching. I will be posting more videos from other instructors as well. Maha Guru gave a good number of seminars at our Kali Academy usually a two day event and sometimes a Friday evening Q&A which is what most of these clips are from. He is a wealth of knowledge and insight. His teaching along with the other instructors that have been to our Academy have greatly influenced my understanding of the Martial Arts and the way I teach.
Great video, shows all the foundational training Guru Stevan taught. Seeing can't replace standing in front of Stevan and feeling him- he's always in control. His sensitivity and power are amazing.
No, he's not in any of these videos. I do have a video of their demo at Magic Mountain, back in '81, he's in that one but the clip is very quick he's with the whole group. Hopefully I'll have that one uploaded soon, I'm trying to clean it up as best I can.
No he's not in this one. I have a demo from Magic Mtn. that he's in but it's very quick.... It's an old video and I'm trying to enhance the quality of the recording
Maha Guru what? He met elders who never called themselves not even Guru... so, how can he be a Mahaguru? Now they choose titles for themselves? Ridiculous.
