Tony East, an Indiana Pacers reporter for Sports Illustrated/FanNation and Forbes, brings you the Locked On Pacers podcast, a daily Indiana Pacers podcast that is a part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
Kessler Edwards on a minimum.. Been nice if Pascal could have taken at least 8 mil less. 42.3 is some bs. We lose our other guy's and they don't wanna go over the tax. Then they don't want to win sh!t anyways and I'll stop watching this team. They don't know how to team build anyways obviously. If you aren't willing to go into the tax. Then why would you pay a player so much that isn't even close to being worth all that.. Might make sense for a team that doesn't care about the tax.
I agree that the max is disappointing. He only showed flashes of being a max player in the playoffs, he wasn’t one consistently. $35M/yr would’ve been more than fair.
I'd rather had Hartenstein and Bridges. Actual Rebounding and an actual PF who can spread the floor, or run and get baskets in transition.. Once upon a time that was our style. But we should abandon that and all Rebounding. Could have signed two guy's like them and still had enough for a SF. Smh
Massive overpay for a small ball C. 119.4 DR, avg 1 to 2 offensive rebounds and 4 to 5 Defensive rebs.. Not one block, only one steal. Career 48%FG, 32% 3pt and a 65 to 70% FT.. yeah let's max him out. Doesn't draw doubles, they stay in man when he has the ball. He never demands the ball to score. Idk.. He better be a lot better than he was. I thought he played good against the Celtics in that series. But I don't like the massive overpay to where we can't upgrade anywhere else.. because I know how the Pacers operate and now they wont sign a single player.. Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't blow the chance at resigning Obi either. We needed a SF for at least around 8 mil.. But I already knew this was coming. They will probably screw up the draft pick too and not even take a SF. Like they usually do, need a good backup C too, but they will probably take all guards..
The Pacers made themselves a contender for the next four years. I think offering the Max to Siakam so quickly suggests they really aren't worried about the tax.
I disagree I don’t think they are contenders atm. If they get like one more key guy then maybe a dark horse contender. Don’t count their conference finals for anything if Knicks or bucks had any of the guys available it’s doubtful they’d have been there. They are a fun team to watch but not a contender
@@MrGreatness90you have no idea what you’re talking about. You clearly know nothing about basketball if you don’t think we’re contenders. Nobody cares about the injuries or who we had to play. If you watched that Celtics series you would know we’re on the cusp. You’re obviously a bitter Knicks fan or something 😂. Go back to your podcast
I doubt they go into the tax. They think they can be competitive staying under. And they are correct. Getting $12 million from the taxed teams is alot of money to give up.
KP was pulling rabbits out of a hat when we acquired Toppin, Smith, Nesmith and Nembhard. In order to fill the roster KP is going to have to keep doing so. Hopfully there are some good lottery picks that were a bad fit that other teams gave up on and 2nd round steals. Further from that the Pacers are going to have to count on the development of Mattherin, Walker and Sheppard in order to continue the momentum into next season.
Or instead of blowing the entire cap on a mid level player. They could have signed 3 player's. Gotten Hartenstein, Bridges and Naji Marshall or Oubre Jr.. Andre Drummond another choice.. But now they will sign no one. Typical Pacers bs.
They're developing I-Jax to do this... you get 28 mins of Myles putting up an efficient 17 stretching the floor, and 20 mins of a high energy, physical rebounder.
Exactly. Pacers have the leverage I think. Tell him we want him, but we can't pay him what he can get elsewhere. Let him walk and wish him his best. I love Obi, but he's not good enough on defense for us to pay up for him (given everyone else we've paid/have to pay)
I'd rather sign him to 15 mill a year. If we're looking to consolidate at some point the salary will be needed. There's also a near 0% chance he signs for less than 11 mill
@@tonyschimmoeller Exactly, this is what people dont understand. Look at the Brown deal, you have to have salary to trade. If we didnt sign Brown, we likely dont trade for Siakam. Keeping Obi is 50% about keeping his skillset, and 50% about keeping a medium sized salary on the books thats tradable. Because if you let him walk, you are not replacing either his production or his salary in anyway.
@locked on pacers you know who i think would be a nice fit on pacers, chris boucher, and he likely can be had for a 2nd round pick. only has a year on his contract left as well.
@@LockedOnPacers just a suggestion, no one talking about it but i thought a cheap tweak that helps rebounding, defence and some 3 pt shooting should be put out there than more expensive options. he has playoff and championship experience and is a hustle energy player. knows his role also.
with that eye-popping contract they just gave Siakam, they will now have to start unloading immense amounts of talent unfortunately, I told everyone that Siakam was a double-edged sword and no one listened.
Congrats to all Pacer fans! Now Siakam is signed, let’s find a trade for a 3&D wing to complete the team. Nobody outside Hali, Siakam are untouchable, including the young talents and future picks. That will make it possible to win a championship in the next 2-3 years!
Happy for Pascal! As a Raptors fan, so adore Pascal and have come to really enjoy watching and cheering for the Pacers since he joined their organization!
Thank you both! A couple thoughts.... With Pascal having a full off season and training camp, maybe he can slide in to the wing defender roll more. Second, i fully believe we will be a 50 win team given tood health. Im excited! Great job PACERS
From all the looking around and trying to find someone who would bring something to this team, I would rather just let the young guys grow. Even with OG, I would rather see Jarace play and watch Mathurin develop. Let Sheppard get time and see what Nembhard builds on. Also, Haliburton is going to improve. I believe a lot! Hopefully he will gain strength so he can drive and take his better. If Tyrese could gain some strength he would be a good defender
They won't sign anyone else. Because they blew their entire cap space. They'd been better off signing depth and player's who can actually put up consistent numbers. We have not a single guy on this team that can Rebound a basketball.
Pascal is a not so good Small Ball C. Because he can't guard anyone. His Defensive Rating is a 119.7.. Tyrese Haliburton and Obi Toppin both have a defensive rating of 118.7. Lol Pascal has had even worse DR'S with the Raptors in the past year's in the 120's.. He's a C that can't shoot 3's at all, FTs, or in the paint. He misses wayy more than he ever makes. On a consistent basis.. He's nothing near worth a Max.. He's not even worth more than Myles Turner.. Smdh.. Ppl are insane to think we need Pascal on a Max Contract.. bs is a joke. I'd much rather have Heartinstein, DeRozan, Miles Bridges and many others, along with extra really good role player's I could fill and give us crazy depth for his bs crappy price tag... his bs Contract projection is a joke.
Well despite Pascal having poor defensive prowess he clearly has some offensive advantages and the two man game with Ty works well. Your list of players you’d prefer are also players we likely cannot get. So part of the issue I think is who is available for a mid market team that works well with Ty and wants to be here. Your points are valid in that this is why Toronto moved on from P. However this is a top level scorer who can still dominate at times offensively as we saw in part of the Bucks series and in the numbers Caitlin pointed out with Ty and P on the floor (+11, +10, +3 in the playoffs this year against great teams). So wish lists are not going to work here. Who else could we get to fill the first major problem which is a second player who can balance the scales if Ty is out AND who makes Ty better when he’s in the floor (Tony’s point) AND who is available AND who wants to be here? Short list which Tony has covered - no one better than P -therefore a max is on the table.
We should draft someone between the size of 6'7-7'0 who can defend and rebound. Simple as that. If they have 3 point shooting upside then jackpot. But that's the only rookie who could actually contribute on this team rn. Get him competing for the backup 3-5 role (depending on his position). A new backup C to compete with I-jax makes a lot of sense.
The main three prospects that come to mind for pacers to draft at 36 or trade up for are Bobi Klintman, Terrance Shannon, Ryan Dunn. Bobi is my favorite for us to trade up for because of his natural mobility/athleticism/6’10 size with shooting ability, he’s a type of build that is rare and he could be one of those players that could be a steal in the draft when we look back. His mock draft projection is all over the place from late lottery/late first round to early second round, we would have to probably get aggressive and trade up for him. Eye test without looking at stats Dunn jump shot doesn’t look bad his form/shot mechanics seems to not have too much to fix if drafted by the pacers and in the gym with shooting coaches. I believe he’s one of those players that will improve in that area similar to a herb jones. But at the end of the day Wings should be a priority not guards and no wings borderline guards like Aaron Nesmith size because we’ve seen how that turns out against skilled real wings pacers have faced, Shannon is close to his size but his athleticism/skill potential helps, he’s the only exception if we talking close to Nesmith size.
Totally agree on Dunn. I was a UVA student so watched him all through college. Nothing about his mechanics scream that he can’t shoot. It’s just the final result that hasn’t found the mark. He showed improvement as a post scorer and mid range shooter last year though it was minimal. I think he can be turned into a 35%ish 3pt shooter in a couple years and he would instantly become the Pacers best defender. Would be insanely valuable to have for specific matchups in the playoffs
