Hi there, when you use a diode laser the wave length passes straight through the glass and does not interact with the material at all. So you need a medium that will block the wave length causing the laser beam to be absorbed by the glass. You do not need to do this with a CO2 laser as the wave length is different. Hope this helps

Nice video. Just bought a Falcon 2 40w yesterday. The 60 was a lil out of budget. Hope it runs smooth. Cant wait for the stuff to build. Ill have to check out your other videos.
For your room name tag you can cut all 3 parts from the same piece of wood and the Laser kerf is so small the fit together great. You can color each and fit them on a backer piece, it does save wood doing that.
