My late hot takes because why not: · Goemon (from Ganbare Goemon/Mystical Ninja) is an EXTREMELY underrated choice for a newcomer and he deserves to have the support of Geno. His cartoony and wacky style and world fits perfectly into Smash, the moveset potential is there, the soundtrack that he would bring to Smash would be AMAZING (we could literally get a song from Hironobu Kageyama, the singer of Cha-la head Cha-la) and he has a lot of history with Nintendo, he's a very important piece of Konami's history, and overall has a good weight in the videogame history, at least in Japan. · I DISLIKE the idea of Smash Bros becoming a "whole videogame industry crossover", Smash should remain to be a Nintendo crossover with few guest here and there. I don't like the idea of characters that have zero connection with Nintendo like Master Chief, Valve and PlayStation characters. And yes i'm aware there are some like this like Cloud and Joker. And i didn't like their inclusion. · Sephiroth was a mid addition. I don't think he's as iconic as many people claim, he's just """iconic"""" because Square Enix is a bitch who won't let FF7 die, and at the end of the day he's just another "bishonen RPG swordguy" If we speak about FF, i'd prefered another FF character that's not from FF7, like Terra or Black Mage. But if speaking freely, i'd rather prefered Eggman, now he's a TRULY iconic villain, and he would have a very unique moveset. · I don't like at all the direction that DLC characters went in terms of complexity and gimmicks. I just think that newcomers are becoming way too complex and gimmicky, which goes against the whole purpose of Smash of being a simple and "easy to pick up for anyone" game. Also, because i always thought that the interesting thing about a character joining Smash is how they would adapt to Smash Bros. Now, it appears more that Smash is adapting to the character and his game mechanics. I know it's hard to make distinctive characters without adding gimmicks or complex mechanics when the roster number is more than 80. But it's not impossible. · I don't understand why Smash community (especially twitter, ew) has a dislike for those so-called "scrimblo bimblos". Most of them fit really good into Smash Bros and would have a better and more unique moveset than another swordfighter. · I still don't know why Sora was so requested. I don't see anything special on him. · I think we don't need any more fighting game characters. We have already the trinity (Street Fighter, King of Fighters and Tekken) very well represented, so anything more is... kinda unnecesary, honestly. Wouldn't complain if they add more though, i don't think characters like Scorpion, Fulgore or Sol Badguy are bad ideas, i just feel that the fighting game genre is already very well represented. · Sonic's only necessary changes that he needs is a different Side B and Forward Air. Other than that, his moveset is alright. That's all my hot takes, i guess.
Sega and Capcom choices seem pretty interesting choices to me. With both I have opposite preferences. For Sega, I doubt anything else is in more demand than new Sonic characters For Capcom, I’d much rather take other IPs than just Street Fighter or MegaMan
Necessary Nintendo characters (My take) Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, Kirby, Dedede, Meta Knight, Pikachu, Charizard Samus, Marth, Olimar, Shulk, Inkling, Villager or Isabelle And to a lesser extent but such big Smash things at this point: Fox, Ness, Falcon and Pit
Great video with excellent choices. Only change I would make is Final Smash is a cinematic team super like Hero, Joker, Shulk, etc. You could use the whole team like against Sariel in CotM 2 or the final attack vs cursed Zangetsu.
This is amazing! Kirbys hat could be Pokkles hat, as he is "a prince from another magic land", and could be a reference of the bomb hat ability from kirbys games too as the neutral B works kinda like it
My thoughts on the roster: (if I don't mention a franchise it means I believe it's good but I don't really have anything to say.) Mario series: I think it's a bit excessive to include both Geno and Mallow, and honestly, I'd rather see Fawful than either of them, perhaps it's because I haven't played Super Mario RPG. The rest of the Mario characters should be Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy (decloned), Bowser, and Bowser Jr. I think Rosalina is a bit of an uninteresting pick in my opinion and I think she could be cut. Donkey Kong series: I think DK, Diddy, Dixie, and K. Rool are the perfect quartet. I'd also like Lanky Kong and Tiki Tong for their moveset and meme potential, but no need to flood the roster with DK characters. Zelda series: I think Link, Zelda, Impa, and Ganondorf is another perfect quartet, but it seems excessive to include all four champions. I think one of the champions, Bokoblin for a generic enemy rep, and maybe a slightly decloned Toon Link would be my extra choices. Yoshi series is perfect, Kamek is unironically my most requested character for smash bros. Kirby series: I think Marx or an entity of Dark Matter could be added for a villain rep, and no, Dedede and Meta Knight don't count. Pokemon series: Mewtwo could be replaced with Zacian, because I think it'd be cool. I don't care for Meowth as an addition. Maybee replace Incineroar with Lycanroc, but then there'd be two quadruped dogs. Replace Sceptile with Meowscarada for a more relevant grass type, and remove Tinkaton. Then there'd be 7 Pokemon reps counting Pokemon Trainer as 1, 8 including Lycanroc, who I'll just leave out. Fire Emblem series: Even though they now have more variety, I still think that's too many. Maybe leave out the Lance user (I already forgot her name). Kid Icarus series: Kid Icarus as a franchise is practically dead, so I'd leave out Medusa. Sonic series: I think Tails would be a better addition than Eggman, whom I'm struggling to think what he'd do unless they make him play like Bowser Jr. I'd also probably add one of Blaze, Knuckles, or Cream (who would replace Rosalina as a puppet fighter) to go along with Sonic and Tails. Animal Crossing series: the series is too big to leave only one fighter, so I'd add back in Isabelle, who I'd probably keep as a semiclone. Street Fighter series: I think you could make a case for Chun-Li over Ken, but idk because I haven't played the series. Splatoon series: I also think Splatoon is way too big for one rep, I'd add Octoling as a semiclone, and DJ Octavio as his own fighter. As a side note, I think there are too many third parties, they should be taken for what they are, guest characters. I guess it's a dream roster, though. As for my dream roster: I guess you could ignore what I just said, and my comment about excessive DK representation, because it's just a dream roster. Here goes: Mario Luigi Peach Daisy Bowser Bowser Jr Fawful Donkey Kong Diddy Kong Dixie Kong Lanky Kong King K Rool Tiki Tong Link Zelda Impa Ganondorf Bokoblin Revali Toon Link Samus Ridley Ravenbeak Yoshi Kamek Shy Guy Kirby Bandana Dee King Dedede Meta Knight Marx Fox Krystal Wolf Pikachu Pokemon Trainer Lucario Zoroark Greninja Zacian Meowscarada Ness Captain Falcon Marth Tiki Robin Edelgard Mr Game and Watch Pit Palutena Wario Sonic Tails Blaze Olimar ROB Villager Isabelle Mega Man Little Mac PAC-MAN Shulk Pyra Mio Duck Hunt Ryu Chun-Li Cloud Inkling Octoling DJ Octavio Simon Hero Banjo and Kazooie Steve Sora Isaac Dillon Andy Takamaru Rayman Bomberman The Knight (Hollow Knight)
I had enough of generic Mario enemies with the Plant so Goomba and Shy Guy are iffy to me And as much as I absolutely Love Pokemon, there are just Too Many here. This roster for me gets a 4.5/10
Yess, roster critiques are back!! The nostalgia is real. Would you consider critiquing viewers' character moveset concepts? I recently uploaded my first yt video about a potential moveset for Paper Mario in Smash. I would love to hear what you think about it. Paper Mario is my most wanted character in smash which also seems pretty likely, considering the recent success of the TTYD remake. Anyway, hope to see more content from you, especially Smash stuff.
I believe only justifiable case of keeping the villain over the sidekick in fan rosters is Wolf over Falco. Or adding Eggman over Tails for more Sonic representation. But something like keeping King K. Rool over Diddy Kong just seems like obvious bias.
Beloved in Japan with 0 Smash Bros representation: Touhou Beloved in the West with 0 Smash Bros representation: FNAF Has an assist trophy & an Amiibo: Shovel Knight Has a Mii costume that includes a remix: Undertale & Shantae
Just remembered your ssb4 rosters and it sent me on a wild goose hunt searching for the “fedora man”. It’s a shame those rosters are lost. Thank you for all of your speculation
My idea for a 20 character roster 1st Row: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu 2nd Row: Peach, Wario, Zelda, Isabelle, Inkling, Pokémon Trainer 3rd Row: Sonic, Olimar, Alear, Noah, Ring Fit, Mii [ ? ]
My Takes Sonic > Bayo > Joker Pac-Man > Kazuya Ryu > Megaman Hero > Final Fantasy Simon > Snake Steve > Banjo 🙂 It’s not always about who comes first imo
Nice take on this. Lately i've thought about this thin line of videogame characters that are based on something else, if they can be considered true videogame characters or not. A good example of this would be Goemon, since he's actually based on a real person, but the inspiration became more loosely over time at the point that Goemon became his own character. Also there are other characters like this in Smash, not only Dracula, like Dr. Kawashima (that big head assist trophy), he's literally a real life neuroscientist.
With the mysterious and elusive Emio finally explicitly revealed as an all-new _Famicom Detective Club,_ Ayumi Tachibana has a greater shot at being in _Smash Bros._ than before!
I think the reason Toad doesn't see as many requests as you'd expect is because he's *so* obvious that most have written him off since he hasn't already happened, like they assume there must be something holding him back since, if he was possible, he would've happened already, *way* before half of the Mario characters we already have - I'm not saying I agree with this line of thinkinf, I think Toad is plenty possible, but I think this is why he's seemingly ignored
8:44 So if someone deflects them (E.G., Mario's cape or Ness' baseball bat), _do the shots hone in on Tails,_ or do they just start flying in a straight line (away from the defender) the moment they were blocked? What happens when Villager/Isabelle pulls one out of their pocket?
9:44 Not sure why his up special has to be so complicated. I mean, *obviously* it'd be his helicopter tails, but gameplay-wise, can't it just be like K. Rool, Duck Hunt, Snake, Pit's flight in Brawl, and Megaman's Beat special in Sm4sh where it slowly auto-lifts for a short time, goes fairly high, and you have _a lot_ of steering control as it's happening? (Which would feel pretty similar to how Tails' flight was handled in Sonic Adventure 1, now that I think about it. 🤔) You could make it so people can get hit by the spinning tails, but maybe _not by his head or body,_ and the tail attack has very little knockback, making Fox Boy vulnerable (as I think most of the other up specials I just listed can't do damage for game balance). Alternatively, it could be just like Peach's parasol instead, with a damage-dealing sudden burst of height followed by a slow, horizontally-controlled glide that you can shut off and drop quicker at any time. (Granted, I can't think of any game where Tails has stopped flying in mid-air before without getting hit, but for Smash Bros. gameplay purposes, I think it'd be less frustrating.) -Not simply suggesting these because I love Tails and HATE tricky to use up specials! Nope! Totally not!- 😋 I also feel like Tails should be able to just natively glide by holding up without pushing B, like Peach's magic hover-skirt-thing (perhaps unlike Peach, Tails slowly descends while he's glide/flying).
7:22 I dunno, that feels more like a down throw to me, and that you could give him something made up for his upward throw instead. Perhaps his upward throw could look like the attack from Sonic Heroes, he just kicks them upward instead of forward.
Nice Video Facts: Mr Sandman Never Uses Hooks in Wii unless Mac Tried Punch Him Before His TD Dreamland Express, the Hooks You Said When Showcasing Wii Mr Sandman are Actually Jabs "MY TURN!" is Mr Sandman's Quote for His TD Dreamland Dodge Counter, He already Have a "SMASHTIVE/STAND STILL" Quote for Delayed Overheads
That's brutal man, reminds me a lot of how my father got screwed over by his company when we immigrated to the US. He eventually managed to figure things out, so here's hoping your future is brighter than ever!
When Multiversus was first leaked, it was stated that several companies were planning on doing their own smash clones. We're probs gonna keep getting more.
ganondorf and ganon are just 2 different forms of the same character so actually you picked him twice. EDIT: the ganondorf in Wind Waker is actually also the same one in Ocarina of Time so you actually used him 3 times.
y'know, D&D is pretty damn big, I never thought of it before, but it'd actually make a lot of sense to add a character from a D&D video game to smash, considering the influence it had over the RPG genre as a whole. Balder's Gate 3 is *almost* the perfect opportunity for that, only issue I have with it is the complete lack of any sort of connection to Nintendo. if BG3 somehow ever got ported to switch, I'm ngl, I'd be all over a character from it getting into smash.
Mario & Luigi, Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, and Metroid Prime 4 were definitely my biggest highlights, especially MP4 after how long it's been since its announcement. I'm confident it'll be a cross-gen title with it releasing in 2025
Was hoping for your thoughts. I agree, Mario&Luigi and for once 5 other RPGs grabbed my attention lol. Also looking forward to AAI and MvC collections, Capcom has been killing it with those lately. As for DK, Returns HD is nice but I'd rather Nintendo like... made a spin off or 2 during the past few years rather than just waiting on Retro to finish prime 4. But at least that's finally gonna be out the way
