When I was 7 years old, the teacher told me that my drawing was ugly, that I didn't know how to draw and never would. I believed her for 40 years.
At the end of February 2022 I decided to check it out. Now I draw every day and I'm progressing.
Today I offer you the content that I would have liked to find when I started: exercises and tutorials, tips that are easy to put into practice without years in art school. I also show you the supplies I use, my favorite ones and those that disappointed me. I share with you my journey through my sketchbook tours, you will see that I started from zero and that there is no age to get started.
Above all, I intend to answer all the questions you ask yourselves when we begin and that we don't dare to ask. There are no stupid questions, everyone started from scratch. Don't hesitate.
Hi Brian, Yes, the photos were great! Thank you so much for your kind words. Now I like what I did, even if it wasn't the case at the end of the session. I have to remember to wait some days before judging my work 🙃
Thank you Melissa, as I wrote the other day about the Linescapes Zoom session, I got in the habit of seeing shapes when I draw people. I need to work on my proportions, they aren't all good on 10 minutes sessions. That is why I was a little disappointed after the session.
Such a cool and resourceful way to store these chunky pencils! Looks great, Hippo! And I hate when stickers are being difficult to peel- happens to me all the time! I never tried an exacto knife to peel off the back, but that seemed to work well!
The box needs definitely less space on the table when I want to use the Woody and I love DIY. Exacto knife is the answer to a lot of issues in my daylife 😁
Looks so cool especially with that light pastel underpainting! Unrelated: For some reason I can only ever get French closed captions in these shorts when I watch on my phone. If I watch on the computer I can switch the language. So I’m not 100% sure what you said, but you sounded beautiful saying it!😂❤
Oh man, sorry the ART HANG PARTY! sticker was so hard to peel! I always have trouble too. This storage box turned out so cute! Can't wait to see all the fun woody art to come! 🤗💖✨
I really like this idea to storage the stabilos, i have mine on a card box too (not made by me) 😊 but a DIY craft project makes it even more special I think! And you give me the idea to make a box like you did to storage my stickers :) thanks Hippo! Just need to figure out how I will make the spacers 🙃
I love your DIY solution. I have some supplies, too, that I never reach for due to them being tucked away in packaging, so you're really got me thinking.
Bravo for drawing no matter what Hippo ❤ it inspires me! I've seen a lot of sketches about editing videos 😄 can't wait for the next sketchbook tours! 🎶😉
These are really kind words, thank you 😚 A lot of video editing everyday, yes. Too much. Some days I have to spend more time in editing than in drawing and I don't like this fact 😬 New sketchbook tour soon, but a lot of voice over to do on it... again 😆
I believe it means something like "wrong shape" or something like that in ancient greek language. Super fun to do, yes and the days when I can't stay sitting to draw, even if I only can do one, I have to feeling that I draw something that day. Good for my mood 😅
I love seeing all these little moments, Hippo, a beautiful vlog! You have been busy making a lot of things, my friend! And you've made me very hungry. Everything you're cooking and eating looks so delicious!!!!
I like this format! You have a very pleasant voice to me. I really liked your gouache paintings... I must have missed some of those from earlier. Nice recap!!
Hi Brian, thank you for your kind words. I love gouache, I should use it more often. Don't worry: I post everyday so everybody misses a lot of my videos 😁 Have a nice day!
Both brands are very good, wanting for your review after ☺️ I usually don't buy watercolour sketchbooks because they usually have a little grain and I prefer extra smooth paper to use the colour pencils 🤷🏼♀️
I have a block of Clairefontaine watercolor paper (without grain) but not the Etival one. And the sketchbook that I dedicated to gouache is a Hahnemühle, but not the same paper neither. So what ever the winner will be, it will be a first try for me. I will give my feelings about the paper during the sketchbook tour. I don't like to much grain neither because I rarely do only watercolors, I am more a mixed media girl, so I like it smooth for pencils too. ☺
Ah, hard choice! I think the postcard one sounds cool. But i have not used any of those except for the Hahnemule and really enjoyed it. I had the hot press one before I prefer hot press over cold press watercolor paper
I liked so much this recap of the month Hippo!! And adding your food meals is a sweet touch 🥰 you know i like food 🤭 i enjoyed watching your craft box for the pencils, love recycling things and give it a new life! Was it nice going out and drawing outside (despite some pain/tiredness I guess)? ❤ bisou bisou!
Thank you so much for this enthusiastic comment! 💕I thought about you while recording the voice over and saying "j'ai mangé" 😆 It was super good to be outside and to draw from life. It is painful and tiring, yes and it is a lot of sounds and images for someone who lives locked down since march 2022, but it is so good at the same time. Beijinhos meu amigo!
Your video was so much fun! I loved seeing you making the collage and adding things as you went AND how that then inspired your painting. Your food looked yummy too 😃-- I'm excited to explore The Artist's Way.
This was such a great, but demanding session! You did brilliant Hipo 🤍 i should film myself drawing more like you do, think it can help us in our practice. Do you think it's useful?
Thank you 💗 It doesn't always help. But for this one it was helpful to saw my process while editing the video. I realized the errors I commited. I couldn't see it by watching the final result.
Thank you Reb! While I was recording the voiceover today, I realized I my drawing were better than I thought during the session. A lot of improvement is needed of course, but not that bad for 10 minutes drawing for me.
Thank you Melissa, it was a great session. Once again you pulled me out of my comfort zone, which is my aim when participating to live drawing sessions 👌🥳💗
Thank you Brian. It was a leftover red and magenta gouache that I had scraped on this spread. When I saw a documentary about the Grind that takes place every year, with this blood red sea and all the corpses of marine animals floating around, it made me want to do a drawing about it.
At first I was worried that all pages will be a record of pain 😔 glad it wasn't!!! I like to see your spreads full of little doodles 🤗 doodling is kind of relaxing, at least for me! Needless to say my favourite from this round is the polar bear 😍 p.s.- it was your birthday? (if it's too nosy from me, feel free to not answer) 😘
You are so sweet, thank you. ❤It was my partner birthday (don't worry, when there is something I really don't want to share, I put some washi tape on it before filming). I remember your enthousiasm about the polar bear 🐻❄ 😘
