That is Murphy's Law for modelers. 😄 Had that happen to me just last week. The entire rack of Evergreen styrene products was full except for the 1/2 inch tube stock that I drove across town for. MURPHY!!!😡
Built this kit with my father some 40+ years ago and it hung from my bedroom ceiling. The box art has it taking off from CV-15, the USS Randolph. The same carrier my father served on in the '50s. Wish i still had it.
I used to build airplane models to hang from the ceiling of my room. The Corsair is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and sexy airplanes ever built.
Nice job! You built the f4u-4 version, which is the Korea war version, and which my Uncle flew off of a carrier. Would you believer he have me his flight manual! Love that plane. 🙂
I USED DOPE ON A LOT OF PLANES,A FEW 3 times the size of this, also used dope on my Dads J3 When we repaired the Irish Linnen Fabric on the tail and wing surfaces! Still going at 77 !
Maybe next time consider 1/32 sheeting. It works best when u replace the 1/16 stringers with 8th x 16th and convex them a bit with water and some heat so the sheeting doesn't concave between the formers.
The laser cut stuff looks like a serious improvement over the old die crushed. I'm building a crushed 36" 172 from about 82' right now😂 so basically 80% scratch, u know how it is. Great job man
I thought about added something like this to my 1/160 train set. Could be private collection. Could put on the farm as around here farmer had military vehicle collection.
Guess it’s alright but do you not know how to use small fingernail files to shake add detail to motor sanding down prop gun adding bolt heads I guess I’m just so anal for perfection other just settle for get by, the pilot for instance. Sucks come it down for detail, I dunno looks thrown together if ask me I dunno had to rip apart another mans treasure
Since last year I've built four 144th scale models with a 5th one on the bench (F-14A Tomcat). I am doing this as I am currently limited in shelf space. I'll admit that I enjoy quick builds that don't take months to complete (I average 8 to 12 hours) in this scale.
I have ambitions of building a 1/24 scale WW2 warbird and a 1/32 scale WW2 multi-engine plane, but space and money are both limited. I have three daughters, a granddaughter and a grandson. Maybe I can interest them.
I've got a lot of great memories building and flying these kits with my Dad when I was the same age. These kits are eternal. (unless you catch a bad gust of wind lol)
You just rambled on & on…. Just stick to the topics shown on the video. Regards to covering, you did a great job & the clear Krylon seems to dive most shrinking & wrinkle problems. Your model turned out great. There’s a special technique on the use of Guillow’s decals. Just keep them soaking in water until they’re literally floating off the carrier paper. Good show.
Thanks for posting. Brings back memories. The first Tamiya / military kit I built. Late 70s - early 80s? Led to many other builds. Still sits on my shelf with the others.
Good build, you put a lot effort into this project, for what I presume is strictly for static display purposes only, since there didn’t seem to be any indication otherwise. I thought it might be good to recommend that you try, on future builds, using Monokote or Mylar that may be tightened with the application of heat and then leaves a nice smooth waterproof surface to paint, or, in the event it is the correct final color, it may be left alone. It may save you substantial time, not to mention that it also may be much lighter than many coats of paint and more durable as well. When your children are older, you may wish to convert these airplanes for RC flight. Thank you for sharing this video! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨✈️
I built stick and tissue models as a kid, then what to my surprise, my daughter got me this very model (now 58) I have completely taken over the dining room table, lol. I came here looking for tips on covering, Wet vs dry. I did the tail (Dry) and now I am nervous to do the rest.
