I talk LEGO Stuff on a weekly basis. Sometimes it's business, & sometimes... it's personal. Literally. Ninja, Jedi, video games, and maybe some other things in between.
5:53 oh, if it were a _millimeter_ too thick, that printing would _definitely_ cause a problem. Automobile exterior paint is usually around 0.1 to 0.2 mm, and that’s way thicker than you’d need on a Lego part. The between-part gap of adjacent unprinted parts is normally 0.2 mm. So your point about the printing needing to be thin and the tolerances being tiny stands, but I don’t think referring to “a millimeter” does it justice-it’s at least 20 times thinner than that. I’m guessing that typical printing on Lego parts is closer to 0.03 mm or less. Certainly if they put 0.1 mm thick printing on parts, we’d have problems.
I admit to being one of the people who is obsessed with minifigures. I like collecting them from my sets and putting them in a container and then arranging them on a baseplate. I have to limit myself with buying sets. I don’t buy themes like Brickheadz, Friends, Most of Disney, and Technic due to their lack of minifigures. The most recent set I own without minifigures is the architecture one of Singapore.
In my Christian preschool I remember taking out a bin full of bricks and seeing them immediately screamed lego but the deeper I dug into the bin I realized there were different variants (Non lego) first there were regular bricks but then some megablocks and tiny little bricks that connect to other tiny ones and back then I thought they were legos but in reality were knockoff companies.
I do find it kind of interesting how lego decides how many figs go in each set like harry potter typically get a bunch along themes like minecraft. Unlike star wars and a lof of the icons. Its probably because of licensing but still its crazy that it impacts it that much
To me the faded printing on dark pieces seems more like a problem specific to the factory/factories responsible for the American market since I live in Germany and the prints on all my dark minifigure pieces are pretty spot on and not faded at all
This honestly would not surprise me. The stories I’ve heard of the American factory and their efforts in pretty much everything have a lot to be desired. It’s no wonder they’re opening a second one. I just hope it get handled better
The lego brick is and always will be iconic, it's just that people value minifigs more than bricks because without them there is no play, then lego sets are just display pieces.
I'll sound like a broken record but again this is why I miss Bionicle. You had characters which you could create stories with that were the sets which didn't require a back breaking number of hours for people to build (I just finished the Final Battle set from Spider-Man No Way Home and that was straight up 5 hours)
Bionicles are fun because you can just rip off their armor or tear them apart to simulate battle damage. They also stay together more easily than brick build action figures which may start “bleeding” small greebly bits if you’re not careful. Minifigures simply are not as fun to play with, especially if they’ve got comically large weapons that just get in the way.
People aren’t sharing the content, and people aren’t commenting. The more people interact with a piece of content, the more likely RU-vid’s algorithm will share it. It also needs to be an engaging topic too, and sometimes topics aren’t as exciting as we expect them to be, sadly
I’m starting to grow out of Lego and starting to collect Pokémon cards again, I think it’s because all of the Lego sets that I truly want are always locked behind $100-$600 vaults, but I could easily get the Pokémon cards I want from a minimum of $5 to a maximum to $100, but the only flaw is IF I get the cards
It’s not really even a new trend. If you look at the old Lego video games it was typically the minifigures running around in a mostly non Lego world, with only some scattered Lego objects around in the map. The minifigures were the center of the games.
Honestly I disagree since lego’s been moving there portfolio away from minifig sets and into buildable objects and characters instead. If anything, I think we’re in a low point for the minifigure
My counterargument is the upsurgence of nearly featureless LEGO sets that get tons of minifigures in them, priced for a set that does have features, even tho they don't. Marvel and Star Wars have been big on pushing those sets, and now Ninjago is even trying it.
@@PenPlays honestly i was thinking of star wars and marvel in particular of themes that have been cutting back on sets with figs- so now we do end up with the occasional fig pack set in those themes since the minifig budget hasnt been slashed…yet
They get to have the same benefits as funko pops with the style being unifying but Lego can make even more niche characters because they arent selling figures alone, they can reuse elements and they are so small. It’s genius really, Lego has legitimate power to create their own monopoly on niche characters because they aren’t selling individual figures they are selling sets, highly profitable sets at that and if hasbro or hot toys did it there wouldn’t be enough interest to make them profitable.
Barring conversations of minifigure value aside, I am kinda growing nostalgic for a time when minifigures weren’t as desired and/or iconic as they are now, and sets were more focused on a combination of both build and figures as opposed to either or. It seems like more and more sets are being put out now with very mid builds but will sell regardless because they include great minifigures. Could be a rose colored glasses thing idk, it just feels like there used to be a better balance.
I honestly never saw the Lego Brick as an Icon. I saw the Minifigure as the most iconic peace of Lego. The brick is just boring. A little iconic but boring. The Minifigure can be changed and edited. Minifigures just are better for an icon and branding.
I can see some older builders thinking so. I think the big thing is that, as the cornerstone of LEGO's entire concept, it serves as the symbol that represents LEGO the most. Well, until these past few years where the minifigure has become such a prevalent thing.
Another fantastic video. My favorite thing about minifigures is selling them to lower the cost of the set. Building is both fun and therapeutic for me. If i can do more of that, im happy to sacrifice the minifigures to make it happen.
Although we can debate about the minifigure being more iconic than a 2x4 red brick, I am actually surprised that the lego slogan "Only the best is good enough" was mistranslated.
It was done back at a time translation tools were not the best. That’s proving itself today. It’s just so interesting that even the more accurate translation has room to be misunderstood too 😅
@@PenPlays I feel that honestly the miosunderstood translation is fine even good and better then most localiztions... Jelly donut made of rice and seaweed anyone? And besides that most simply want Lego to get it right like they have before not get it beyond perfect what the antihaters think the critics want.
@GreenBlueWalkthrough I don’t think anything can beat what 4kids tried to pull back in the day. Thing is, the mistranslation of the LEGO motto happened decades before 4kids even had the chance to pull that stunt with Pokémon
I don't think this is a recent thing. When I was a kid growing up, whether at church or school, when it was play time we'd run to the LEGO bin and dig through the bin of assorted bricks to find ANY minifigure pieces. When I got older and helped in an afterschool program, I'd see the same thing happening with kids (now a decade+ later). Also week by week the minifigures would begin disappearing as kids would steal them and take them home. Not sure a kid would do that with any other piece that isn't related to a minifigure.
I’m honestly not too sure if it’s a recent thing either. Minifigs have always had such an appeal. Tho recently it does feel like there’s more awareness of this on LEGO’s end
I’m buying less LEGO than I used to. Speak with your wallet and LEGO will listen. Problem is people are buying crappy sets despite then extreme price to value ratio. At the end of the day we only have ourselves to blame for.
I really only have one problem that’s a turn off for buying the set.. ITS SO DAMN EXPENSIVE! I really hope we get cheaper Zelda sets so more people can easily get the amazing figures
