LO MALO DE LOS ENTRENAMIENTOS Y DEMOSTRACIONES DEL AIKIDO ES QUE LOS PRACTICANTES SE DEJAN CAER Y JALAR FACILMENTE FACILITANDO EL MOVIMIENTO DANDO UNA IDEA FALSA DE QUE EL AIKIDO ES FACIL...
Morihei Ueshiba did teach extensively his martial art at Police Academies, Naval and Army Academies, including the Palace Guards, and the Nagano Spy Academy (part of the Royal Japanese Army Academy) Please go tell all of them that aikido "doesnt work". Bob Dylan wrote a song about you. "and dontcritisize what you cant understand."
Aikido has some good techniques but the philosophy does not allow sparring nor competition, so when training, you never encounter resistance as in a real situation. You tea in for years, never knowing if you are able to defend against someone who does nit cooperate, like your dojo opponents who never try to hurt you, nor to resist. So you may know many effective techniques but they have never been tried. They call the person you throw and submit, your opponent, when opponent is not the correct t term since an opponent is someone who opposes you, not someone who cooperates with you to make your technique work perfectly. Is aikido a martial art?
Let me answer your question of is Aikido a martial art. It depends on how you understand Aikido. When people thinks of Karate, Jujutsu or MMA, they think of self-defend, martial art, punch, kick etc. which is not wrong. But when they think of Aikido, they think of being smooth, no resistance, demonstration and non-practical in real situations which is not wrong either. Just like when I hold a big knife in front of you, you more likely to think I will attack you. But if I hold a pen in my hand, you probably will not pay attention. If I hold a knife but not dare to stab or attack with wrong move, wrong distance, wrong location, you will have a chance to get away. But if my pen stab you with right timing, right distance, right determination, right location, you’ll more likely bleed to death. So, it doesn’t matter what kind of martial art is, it really depends on who use the martial arts. I can go on and on with Aikido and other martial arts but it’s already 2am here 😂 So 🍻 cheers! 😅
