I buy dried beans in bulk and if you go to food pantry many times you will get dried beans, and then i can them up myself and have ready cooked beans for recipes for quick meals, i also cook up a large crock pot of beans at the beginning of the week to use all week for recipes. I jave learned so much from you Gabby on how to make tasty, satisfieing meals on a real tight budget. I also grow a garden and grow/ can alot of my produce to have shelf stable. I loke the freezer idea but i live off grid and dont realy have a large freezer to store things so i try to make everything as shelf stable as possible, oh and i dehydrate alot of my produce also
Very informative! DH & I are seniors, but long before we reached that age category I started keeping a budget/household accounting book. I write down every bill that we have, and tally them up, I write down our "standard" grocery budget for the month, I have a set amount for "Miscellaneous Purchases" (things on sale, or unexpected bargains, and such.) I like to keep a well stocked supply of non-perishable grocery items, and I am a "case buyer"...when something comes in a 6-pack, 8-pack, 10 pack, etc. if it works out to be cheaper per item than buying individually [It doesn't always turn out that way.], then I try to buy the case of whatever it is. I am diabetic, so I do have to read labels and buying diabetic friendly items can be more expensive, but I buy as much on sale as possible. Like you, Gaby, I have a list of go-to meals, meatless meals, frugal meals, etc., that I keep in another notebook. I am a "kitchen experimenter" and if I throw together something "off the cuff" and it turns out well, and DH likes it, he will say "Put that in the book!" which is his way of saying Write it down so you don't forget how you made it!" :)
Thank you so much for sharing this method! Very practical regardless of the family size. Even if the “event” is just a special treat that’s brilliant! ❤❤❤
God bless you for providing some wonderful, amazing ideas on food budgeting. I very much appreciate you sharing this valuable information. As a senior and my husband, a senior in our 60's budgeting is very important for our own household too. I totally agree with you about having a freezer. So beneficial especially when food in on sale - especially meat or poultry. We love meatless meals too. Can make very tasty and can add in plant base protein instead. Peace be with you. Love from Ky Sub. 💙👍
Hi Gaby!!! I like that you have that book to plan everything. When our Children were little I always made grocery lists. Now I am alone. My dear Husband ♥️ passed, my Children are grown. But...with the grocery prices at ridiculous prices I must be on a budget now. Never was in my life. Our Government doesn't care about us old people...Anyways...I enjoyed your planning. Thanks for showing us this...Great Video!!!...🦋
Thanks for a great video Gaby. I’m one person n I like to cook n bake so it’s more a case of cook something n eat it til it’s gone. In between to break the monotony I’ll have a salad n quesadilla or a scrambled egg n toast n tea for dinner. Food here in NE AZ is quite expensive n we only have Safeway n Walmart. Thank goodness I no how to make bean soup n veg n meat soups to make my dollars go further. Keep up the Greta work of sharing n shopping w us. 🤗🤗🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Like you I have a budget for groceries and some fav meals but my strategy is not to meal plan but to shop lost leaders, discounts, clearance etc. and then build my meal plan around that and my basic staples. I used to meal plan but found I save even more when I shop and cook what is on sale. That being said you have to be more creative. For example this week cucumbers are extremely inexpensive here so I had so many versions of salads with cucumbers as part of my side salads with meals.
I really appreciate you. For the first time in my life I can’t afford groceries. This helps a lot of people in the same situation. Thank you for what you do.😊
I make the best tortillas. Once you get it down it is so simple you wonder why it seemed so difficult. I always either use bacon grease or butter. Never anything else. I always Mets my salt in the hot water first. Then I mash the fat in with silicone/vinyl gloves. Then add the salted water. AMAZING results. Letting them rest is key. The pan should be piping hot when you start.
While I appreciate the frugality employed (to live on what was actually $20 divided by 7, or $3/day), this would be a nightmare for my T2 diabetes and my arthritis, not to mention all the empty carbs would pack on the pounds!! This diet plan, long-term, would end up costing me thousands in medical expenses. I'd rather spend more on food than to fund my doctor's golf trips and Mercedes. Good for you that you can survive on so little nourishment, but I am more concerned for your overall health in the long-term. I hope it works out for you!!!
Please do not take this lightly, you literally have saved me and my children so much! I admittingly am NOT a cook. I have three kiddos and the recipes and things you've shared on your channel helped us stay with full bellies on my limited income! I don't have to pick which bills to pay so we could be full each week! I love you for all you do! Thank you! <3 Please keep going! <3 Que Dios Te Bendiga! From a little family in SW Fl <3
I love your Tenacity, Resourcefulness, Ingenuity, improvising skills, creativity!!! ALL, God given gifts!!! LOVE NEVER FAILS....YOU ARE A VERY GOOD TEACHER! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! REMEMBER, "LITTLE IS MUCH WHEN GOD IS IN IT ".....☝ Thrilled to share with others your "Unique Niche " In The RU-vid Market 👍
I'm not sure if you could take off the speed time but I love your videos but it makes me have motion sickness just watching the videos. Good job on the bread though that look yummy.
A lot of process meat for me and I prefer more veggies. But some great ideas. I have done 1 week challenge on £10 and was good. I must do another. We spend far too much on food. And we over eat. I enjoyed the video. Thank you!❤
I did the first one but at the end I sprinkled feta cheese on top and used sweet chilli sauce instead of ketchup and boy oh boy was that delicious. Might as well start every single day with that 😋
