We were and are saddened by the untimely death of our main man Doug Bennett in 2004. In 2009 the 5 surviving original members regrouped with a new singer. We secured the blessing of Doug’s family and after much discussion decided to keep the name. Hence, we continue as ‘Doug and the Slugs’.
We are thrilled to have Ted Okos on board as our lead singer. He does not try to replace the irreplaceable Doug Bennett. Ted’s respectful and considerate interpretations of Doug’s lyrics and vocals are a vital component of all our shows. We are also grateful for his sense of humour!
We continue to play in remembrance of Doug, to honour his legacy and to bring our fans a live performance of the songs we recorded, toured and still love after all these years.

JFC, I can’t believe my parents would let me sing along with this song when it was on the radio when I was a kid, my parents took me to their concert FFS, they must have known the whole track was about not being able to get hard lol. I’ll have to call my mom and question how I was raised tomorrow lmao.
I’ve loved this song since it was released but for some reason never saw the video or heard the backstory. Knowing makes it even better! Seeing Doug in his sartorial elegance again is icing on the cske😊❤🙏
I recall this coming out in Vancouver back in '80. They would fill the Commodore ballroom - the dance-floor was on top of layers of tires to provide springiness, hence when they played this as their finale, the place (and audience) was jumping... I know because I was in the bookstore on the ground floor, and the ceiling was shaking from the dancers above it.

It's shocking that they weren't more popular here in the U.S. They were so good and fun. I remember seeing their song "Real Enough' on MTV and had to own that song!! I had to know who this band was. Ended up being a lifelong fan and NONE of my friends to this day have ever heard of them. Such a shame. Too Bad, Real Enough, Making it Work, Who Knows How to Make Love Stay.....so many great songs!!
I hadn't thought about this song in forever....and I'm so glad I was reminded of this today. I mean, besides having a great chorus, this song is a total earworm with lyrics that leapt, unbidden, into my brain after what? 40 years?
Just their name makes me happy, but this song is epic! Big fan of theirs, since the '80's -- lots of fun -- so happy to have seen them live. Miss you Doug ❤
This song means a lot to me it was my best friends song when he was on the road to recovery from drug addiction. He would always tell his little girls and us day by day ❤️
