Welcome to "Alpacas de Gredos" channel, where we document our journey of rehabilitating lost pastures for our small farm of alpacas. Our mission is to provide a sustainable grazing environment for our alpacas, while also contributing to the restoration of our local ecosystem.

Our channel follows our progress starting from the arrival of our first group of female alpacas in June 2021, to the addition of three cria during the winter of 2022, and the purchase of two male alpacas in the winter of 2023. We believe that alpacas are gentle, intelligent creatures that are a pleasure to care for and we are excited to share our experiences with you.

One of the challenges we face is providing enough grazing land for our alpacas. To do this, we need to rent and rehabilitate lost pastures in our local area. We are committed to using sustainable methods that protect the environment and promote biodiversity.

Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more videos!

Steve Wood asked me to contact you. He tells you to get Two Great Pyrenee dogs to guard your alpacas and warm your hearts,. They will keep away predators, stray dogs, and stray humans but they are very gentle to you. By the way, he is not fluent in French but has no trouble communicating with French speakers. Steve has a pair of Pyrs and a llama and there have been no fatalities since they joined us.

@brookrohde-wy1xm I have contacts who may have knowledge about the Pyrenees guard dogs. Tell him thank you for the advice. I am home now, and our ladies are very pregnant. I am on alert, even though they are not due until the end of the month. In the past, they have delivered after 11 months. Anyhow, all is good.

They take their own time To develop friendship, trust; Often that means years. Steve Wood took five years To truly "have" his llama. Only now they are one.

The Cost of Loss 25-August-2024 If you love your dogs, Take good care of yourself, too. Don't leave them behind Lost and so alone. You lose a lot when they die; If you should die first They lose everything: Love and home and maybe life. Watch out for yourself: Your life is theirs. "Dogs" could be cats or alpacas in this piece.

Vicuna Bravery In the wild, I have read, vicunas live in harems with one male and several females. When something seems strange or dangerous, The females wait while the male goes to investigate. Sometimes his bravery costs him his life. Then another male leaves a bachelor herd and takes over the females. Ormand has the guard instinct to move ahead and investigate. He has a bachelor herd but even so he is the brave [foolhardy] one. Onyx is Chief Bachelor but he is not as curious and protective as Ormond. There are shades of leadership.

Have you considered a Livestock Guardian Dog [LGD]? Steve has a guard llama and two Great Pyrenees [Pyrs]. We have lots of coyotes and we have lost poultry and almost lost an alpaca. Dolly Llama smashed the coyote in the alpaca's pen. We lost poultry till Rosie the Pyr arrived. The other Pyr, Flashdance, was an abrupt rescue. An LGD would keep the crias safe, keep away the Jabali maybe and teach people to respect boundaries. Steve communicates with Pyr owners in the Basque country of southern France; he speaks perfect French. I spoke Spanish and German once but that was 50 years ago. Is a Spanish Mastiff also an LGD? That might be practical and patriotic but I know Pyrs live in Spain too. I know a lot of viewers will enjoy meeting and watching the dogs.

Here is a dream-inspired poem for you and Miriam Campos. I may have postedit before. The Quechua Word 19 August 2024 Learning of Quechua, Indigenous American, Enlightens us so. Ou one syllable Might be their six or seven, A musical phrase; Our short paragraph Might be their four letters, Short important words. The Incan Empire Was united by one speech, Called "Speech of Mankind". English might do that, Entangling the whole world; Is it the best choice? We bark like a dog; Quechua purrs like a kitten, A mountain music. Do their poems rhyme? Do they speak "Llamasimi"? I am curious; I need to know Brooks Rohde

With all your woods, are you prepared to save your herd in case of wildfires? The fires all over Spain and Greece even get mentioned on the news here. There are fires all over the USA, especially in Texas and California where a lot of camelids dwell. Steve bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee just so he had a way to rescue all his big dogs. He is employed by the fire prevention people National Forest; fires are ever with us.

We can bring the alpacas to the village. During the summer, they are nearby. There have been fires, maybe 5 years ago?, but they were arson fires. Our village's name translates as "quagmire" -- where the alpacas are, during the summer, is wet! Boggy! So, while fire is on people's minds, I have seen they grow slowly. About 5 of us plus one official fireman battled a large blaze during the early morning hours, and it threatened my neighbor's cows. We used buckets of water drawn from the creeks and escoba (broom plant), and we held it off until the helicopter arrived at daybreak. Old time firefighting.

Here is a first llama poem. Molly Llama ran away in March 2021 and never came home. Everyone tried to find the feral and some did; once she showed up t a church dinner. She induced a lot of people to visit the National Forest till she died in a heat wave of July 2022. We did not know until the next year. She missed 3 shearings. She was white with a brown saddle on her back. Saint Molly Was she a martyr? She gave her life serving God, Teachinng in the woods, Showing us Nature: God'sWonderful Cretion Tillthe heaattookher. TheWoods are now her Consecrated Cathedral, Saint Molly Martyr, TheLlama of God. This is what Steve thought and I followed in writing.

This llama was in a short video from Righg Choice Shearing. I guess her name was Metallica; she was bright silver colored. The Blind Llama 19 August 2034 A llama born blind, In sensory overload Runs in tight circles But with ears flopping. She is not panic-stricken But only excited. She trusts her owner. Perfect shearing manners, Human voice calms her. Evenin darkness She thrives and interacts. If one sense should fail Animals are provided With extra senses, all keen To makeup for it. I have a favorite children's book about a blind alpaca cria, a birth defect like this.

Play Fighting 18 August 2024 Alpacas play rough. First they just nip and chase All over the place. Then their necks entwine. They wrestle, they copete And tr to grab feet,. As excitement builds, Play turns into a real fight; Scream with all their might. How will it turn out? Most fights end fast, I'm glad to say. They just walk away. Luckily it's rare: They slash and stomp together Till one is a wether. For de Gredos: haiku that rhyme. Yikes! Males got "castration teeth". Damage underneath.

My friends think you should invest in a couple guard llamas. They blend in perfectly with alpacas, but they will guard the alpacas even at the cost of their own lives. They are like Jesus in that aspect. A male gelding with the machos and a llama hembra with the ladies. Hembras make the best guardians for any herd.
