Welcome to my channel! I am a concert pianist, currently living in San Francisco. My channel is devoted to piano works recorded mainly in my own piano studio, and was created to give me a chance to share my performances with a wider audience during the Covid pandemic. Please subscribe to be kept informed when a new video is posted. Enjoy!
Thank you. I hadn’t thought of that. My goal is to get a professional studio recording of it. It should be posted here after the concert (about a week or two later).
Bravo, Dan. Using this on radio show. Will try to incorporate the sound from your video. One hour of great music for unaccompanied instruments, which includes left hand only for pianists. 😊
We miss you out here. If you ever want to play some recitals around St. Augustine (when the weather calms down), let us know the specifics and we'll find venues and sponsors. All the best to you and Joseph.
Thank you for sending this clip allowing me to listen and watch you perform this piece with the Kensington Symphony, headquartered at the 1st Unitarian Church in Berkeley where the performance took place. Bravo!
I first heard Oldham's Concerto years ago when I brought the cd "Memento Bittersweet" which feature a complete recording of the concerto. I was struck by the beauty of this movement and what a lose his death was to the world. It is ashamed that this work isn't better known.
Just found your channel after you replied to a comment I made on RU-vid. Part of my extended family worked at the Steinway & Sons factory in Astoria Queens N.Y. when the came over between wars and found employment there. I have an ear for the Steinways, and am looking forward to listening to your performances.
I hope the piano cover will not fall, otherwise you will have a cat sandwich for lunch. Everyone likes your piano. The wood looks great. I am jealous. ❤from student
Thanks much. Don’t be jealous! This Steinway was built in 1901, when they really knew how to build them. I’m enjoying it, for sure. Hopefully you’ll get one just like it.
He was looking for critters lurking under the strings and when he saw the dampers and hammers moving he tried pouncing on them. When he sat on the strings it muted them. I couldn’t use that take! Sadly, I was preparing a video for Maxine Chan’s memorial and testing mic placement. 😢
Kevin was a dear friend. More like a brother. As a single mom, he was by my side thru pregnancy and was with me when i gave birth. He was my daughter's Godfather. Such a creativd genius as well. Never will forget you dear one. Your music lives on ❤. April 23. 2024 My daughter was born in.May of 1987
Thanks for sharing, Joyce. He was my neighbor on W. 78th Street in NYC. We were also classmates at Juilliard. I’m touched by how many personal connections people have posted here. We will always share that bond with a special musician and friend.
I miss Kevin so much , to this day. He always got me in trouble in choir a Marble Collegiate. He would say… or hum, something insanely funny. I’d start snort laughing and he would face straight ahead with a face of stone. I remember the outdoor premiere of his piano concerto. He was the pianist and it was breathtaking. ❤
Thanks for sharing your memories of Kevin. Even though we went to Juilliard at the same time, I didn’t get to know him until after graduation. I discovered he lived across the street from me. He invited me over and gave me some of his music, which I still cherish. I lost touch when I moved to a different neighborhood and eventually across the country twice. I wish I had heard the whole Concerto. I haven’t been able to find a recording of it.
Daniel, I just had the concerto orchestrated for concert band (by Steve Cohen, who did the original orchestration). I'm premiering this version on March 30 in Las Vegas as part of the CBDNA Division Conference. It is such an amazing work, and I can't wait to share Kevin's voice with as many people as possible <3
Gerard, This is incredible news. I’m so pleased to hear it. I performed the Andante last week and will do so again this coming Saturday. Will your performance be recorded? I have yet to hear the entire work. I would love to come hear it in person, of course. Did you know Kevin? Even though we went to school together, I didn’t get to know him there. He didn’t practice there. He ended up as my neighbor across the street after graduation. That’s when I got to know him more and he gave me some of his scores.
Glad you enjoyed it! I agree with you. I collected a bunch of cadenzas for this concerto and used the Liszt when I played it with orchestra. It’s excellent and stylistic.
Dan- reading your text while listening to your playing has brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful tribute to an obviously very special human being. The Hurricane Hugo story made me smile. Funny, the things that bond us... thank you for sharing
A beautiful piece, Daniel, and touching to read about your father who seemed a really wonderful human being - we need more LeRoy Glovers in the world. Having recently become a parent myself, I am aware of the task ahead of me, and will endeavour to follow your father's example.
Your dad would indeed be so very proud of you, foremost as a kind and generous person and also as a profoundly talented pianist that brings meaning, life and emotion to everything your play. Peace with you as you honor your father ~
Beautiful playing Danny, of a beautiful piece. May your dear father rest in peace. He would have loved it. 2:43-2:49 (and same in modulation until 2:55), Rachmaninoff piano concerto No. 2, first mvt.
now I know, why Beethoven replaced the 2nd movement: So that the audience can't applaud a 2nd time between the movements...But it is a very good performance
Thsnk you. The original movement was preserved and published as Andante favori, and I suspect that its length and lyricism conflict with the finale. He was right to remove it. It’s a great piece on its own.
