Glad you chose to come to Singapore. I've lived for years in Malaysia, Singapore, Shanghai and the US. I have to say, I enjoy Singapore quite a bit. As for the heat, you just come at the wrong time. The heat recently is not that normal. It's hot in Singapore, but the recent heat wave is more due to the El Nino effect. And it's not just Singapore, it's through out the whole Asia too. As for public transport, I do agree it's not at its best. But it's affordable and relatively convenient. When considering the alternative (like buying a car), the public transport is definitely the way to go. You can always choose to take the cab or go grab or gojek every now and then. Once again, welcome to Singapore. Hope you have the opportunities to learn more about your culture and roots.

The heat is due to the humidity. I have an Indonesian friend that told me that she tolerate the 40 deg days back home better than our SG 32 deg days. The public transport is bad at NUS. For residents, we buy homes based on proximity to MRT so it’s not that bad. We can get to work via public transport faster than taking a car through rush hour traffic.
For nature, you need to go to the central catchment area or the north or western region. You get alot of rainforest and some swamps there. But what is missing are hills and mountain which just doesn't exist due to it's small size.
Do you recommend CS70 to Computer Science freshman with an honours in Data Structures and Algs (not at UC Berkley), to do it in Open Courseware format over the Summers, I don't need any credit out of it just for the subject though just want to refine the subject.
Buses in Singapore are only reliable if you need to be at a certain place that is a little far from the MRT station or some places "ulu" (more remote, away from city areas). I usually take MRT because MRT takes me to the places I needed to be and compared to waiting for taxis, this mode of transportation is actually faster to get you to places especially if you know how to shorten your travel time by switching different MRT lines.

Singapore is the PERFECT city.... IF IT WERE 10 DEGREES COOLER! How we deal with the heat - we don't. Our buses and trains and even some of our bus interchanges are air-conditioned. Our malls are connected and air-conditioned. Most social activities are at night. The nights are cooler, and Singapore is safe at night. We have the Night Safari (cos even animals prefer the night), and our F1 race is the first night race. So take the hint. The day (and its heat) are best cope with in an air-conditioned lecture theatre. Live Life Late! :-)

(all kinds of serious crime news happen everyday in sg just that nobardy read them and/or talk about it, they just want to tell themselves and others 'Singapore is safe'
Welcome welcome again 👋😬 Clean, orderly and safe! I think you will come to like these features about our little sunny island. Don’t be afraid to venture out onto meetup apps and such! Uni life can get monotonous sometimes hahah. Transport wise don’t rely on the apps too much, many routes can be shortened by walking 😗
First rule regarding the heat in Singapore is don't go outside between 11:30am to 4:30pm. The heat is searing hot that feels like tearing your skin. You may like to bring a UV umbrella like Japanese do. Basically Singapore people move from aircon room to aircon room, never outside unless for lunch. Even for lunch it would be quick and back to aircon room again. Nature walks best done after sunset or early 5am.
That's crazyyy. Haas and CS double major. I am taking cs70 this semester and it's too hard taking 3 tech classes at once :'(. You recommend taking in the summer than take 3 techs in the spring?
