I’m getting quite good at this now, I’ve had to do it 4 times - on v1, v2 and v3 wings! All failed exactly the same as in this video. Why can’t Cab fix this? And why is it so hard to find replacement valve patches in the UK?? I’m lucky I had a spare.
One hopes the V4 wings have this problem resolved. Painful. I have done total of 15 V2 and V3 wings. All our friends ride the Mantis so they know I am the expert when this happens. I do not want to be the expert!!
Here's the Cab video using the QR code on the Airlock replacement valve they just sent me: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yV0HCXnkzpQ.html
I would not bother using a heat gun. It’s not worth the risk of over heating or melting the bladder material, as I found out! Yikes! Just simply cut out the old valve.
That works. The heat gun needs to be set on low (setting 3 out of 7 for the Lowes gun that I use) for safe usage on the bladder but not all heat guns are created equal.
Fantastic. Getting the 50 liter version tomorrow and selling my 60 liter shown in the video. Check out my review of the board on the Mac Kiteboarding site: www.mackiteboarding.com/axis-foil-drive-board/ (first review)
Great to see you're out flying again Marc! I was telling a friend about your amazing set up at your home, and water launch that was across the driveway. That was many years back though.
Thanks for the detailed video. I’m going to try a replacement for the first time on my Mantis 5.0. This will really help! Then I get to look forward to 3 more replacements on my other wings in the near future. 😂
At least you will not be surprised! For wings I have not changed the valve on, I inflate and then put my ear right to the valve and wiggle the valve slightly to listen for the evil hissing sound.
Thanks a lot for the video. I'm about to do the replacement on my Mantis 5.0. I've only ever had Mantis wings and I was planning to buy the newer Mantis V3 but now I'm wondering if I should get a different brand that doesn't have leaky valve issues. I am considering buying the Slingshot V3 HH instead. Do you know if the slingshot V3 uses a similar valve and if it also has valve issues? Do you still only ride Mantis or have you found another wing you like? Thanks
Excellent question. There are problems for sure with the Mantis V3 wings. Probably 30% have this problem. I believe they have finally resolved the issue with the V4 wings. I really like how the Mantis flies so I would not switch brands. I would think the Slingshot does NOT have this problem unless the bladders are made in the same factory which I guess is a possibility.
Total hassle! I can do it in 20 minutes now as I have done more than 12. Probably 6 of ours and 6 from friends. Yikes! The Mantis V2 and V3's have the problem. Not all of them but I would say 30% or so. The V3's are a little harder to do as you need to press pretty hard on the strut inflation valve (start with a corner) to push them through to inside of the bladder so you can have enough slack to pull the inflation valve out.
@@marcjorrens9161 the Crosswing V3s have the problem too. My understanding (from an insider) is it had to do with them having to change a supplier during/after the pandemic.
Thankyou! About to do this to my 2meter which blew out at this joint on a 35kn + day. I went out with a bigger wing anyways and got destroyed + walk of shame😢
I'm coming to Cabarete in February and hoping to catch as many Sup foiling waves as possible. I was going to stay at Villa Taina for winging and supping in waves until i just found these awesome vids of you guys at Rocon. Is Taina a good base for direct access into Sup waves or is there a better positioned hotel to avoid a long walk with sup foil kit? Love the videos and mega excited to share some waves.
You are in a good spot for wing foiling as the shore break at Villa Taina is a lot more tame than down towards the Millennium Hotel / Laurel Eastman Kiteboarding (LEK). It is not the best spot for getting to the reef. When we were there, I would walk from the Millennium to the Nanny Estates (to the West) and then paddle out to the reef from there. The reef in front of the Nanny Estates works best for 3-5 foot swell but changes with the tide coming in/out. You will figure it out. Rocon is very nice (short drive) but I only went there once. It has a three tiered reef which can be epic on the right swell direction/size.
How is the Airtime valve holding up? I just got a brand new Dakine cyclone V2 made in the same factory and within 10 minutes the main valve is leaking.
Rock solid. Some wings are going on 6+ months. Looks like they finally rectified the problem with the Cabrinha V4s but Cabrinha V2's and V3's both have the problem. From what I hear, 30% of the wings manufactured have this problem.
Fantastic. The place where i'll stay 6 weeks next summer with the same board. You make me dream. (even if i have not yet the level to sail in the waves). I have a question. Is it necessary to open the board with this strange tap for travelling by plane?
I just purchased a v2 Mantis in 3.5². I got to use it once last week. It leaks already. I had a close out Duotone do the same after a few inflations. The valve plastic obviously goes bad sitting on the shelf.
I have this exact problem - on my 4.0 v2, with loads of bubbles coming up around the valve and through the Velcro - so I’m delighted to find this video! Thanks. For the bladder patch - is it an airlock V2 kit that I need? Many thanks!
