Hi Harry, I collected my yamadori in late October. One elm tree and one oak. I used your black bag technic. How long should I keep the black bags before removing them. I live in Canada, Toronto. I leave all my trees outside in the winter. Thank you so much. Your channel really helps, keep doing good job.
@@royhicks3957 Dr Karen is advising using just one dose of calcium per year in hard water areas, against two doses per year in soft water areas. There weren’t be the same big jump in growth that I experienced in my circumstances but it’ll still be advantageous
Hi Harry calcium plays a big part in us as humans, a little story, my late wife was born in a Japanese prisoner of war camp in HongKong, her mother would beg the egg shells from the Japanese cook as their diet was very poor, she would crush the egg shells to a fine powder and feed it to her baby and her 3 year old daughter, she knew how important calcium was to our bodies as well as plants.
Interesting. Hard water often has high rates of both calcium and magnesium, couldn't you go back to using that or in part? Have you tested the water? You may get a similar result without the need for additives, though the difference in the appearance of the elm was pretty spectacular
Fantastic video! It's nice to know that even the real pros gets absolutely stumped at times..but what a monster of a tree! Had a feeling it would of been one of Sean's collections 😂 every tree I see of his online all ways seems to fit the same profile.. HUGE!
Fantastic place for a holiday, indeed! The Old Japanese Garden in the UK is amazing scenery; this ambience really impresses me. Thank you for sharing it with us to see.
if this is the Garden i'm thinking of, i live in a town close to this and have always wished to see what it looked like, so thank you for sharing! It was so much better than i expected, truly a incredible sight to behold. and as a bonsai and Japanese garden enthusiast this is very inspirational, it makes me want to tear my garden apart and build my own.
@@suer666 unfortunately, as with anywhere in the south of the UK it seems, there were aircraft overhead, plus the various sounds of us talking as we walked around. The music helps soothe all that background noise away!
Japanese gardens take a *lot* of work to maintain and they're pretty close here. Not sure about the rather twee blue torii gate, but hey most oldywonks dropping by won't care!
The blue torii gate is cast iron from Japan over a century ago, the genuine article. I honestly can’t remember its full provenance however it is embellished with kanji and dated (as part of the cast).
Really beautiful garden. JM´s growing naturally is very pleasing for the eye. They are fantastisk as bonsai, but i wish more in the world of bonsai would grow them more to the natural side.
