This isn't even close to the best solos I have heard him play. The solo in Dreams in St Augustine Fl this year is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than this. And that is just one among the shows I was at. I'm sure anybody who has seen them recently will agree with me that Derek is pushing much further on his solos over the last few years. While I love this song, this is not a good example of how good he actually is.
learning how to play hybrid fingerstyle (with a pick or without) and thumping is hard enough, but then this song also has super strethy jazzy chords (if you can't wrap your thumb over the neck because you have small hands, good luck), weird time signatures, and then on top of that, imagine singing over something so complex.
And Grateful Dead, among others. What would really blow your mind is watching King Crimson with three drummers, all up front on stage - performing some complex stuff that was Bill Bruford on the album.
Thank you for your reaction. Are you familiar with Polyphia? Tim Henson of Polyphia just featured with Marcin on an instrumental called "Classical Dragon."
#1, her name is Susan Tedeschi, ok? Show proper respect please. OK, so I was lucky enough to see TTB 3 weeks ago and it was one of the best shows I've seen in 51 years of concert going. You are correct, Derek Trucks is on a level of one. Seeing them do Midnight in Harlem was almost more than I could handle. Susan Tedeschi is absolutely fantastic. So, A couple of things about the band you should know. This version of the band does not exist. Sadly, the keyboard player you briefly mentioned, Kofi Burbidge, passed away 5 years ago. The bass player in your video is his brother, Otiel Burbidge, who currently is the bass master in the Dead+Co...Also, that was from a festival, not just a Tedeschi Trucks Band show. Unfortunately, they aren't at the level of filling stadiums, even if they should be. This song was written by current and long time Derek Trucks Band member, Mike Mattison. 22 years now they have made music together. Maybe a little more research in the future, eh? But I did enjoy it.
You are the only commentator speaking English who has pronounced Marcin Patzałek correctly. Marcin Patrzałek (Polish pronunciation: [ˈmar.t͡ɕin patˈʂa.wɛk]; born October 6, 2000), known mononymously as Marcin, is a Polish percussive fingerstyle guitarist, composer, and producer. He is known for combining fingerstyle, percussive guitar techniques with modern electronic and orchestral production.
There is a time while listening to fast music where some of us will suffer from "musical sounds overload" you allow the music to take over the mind so completely that you forget that you listening to music.
A correction. . Derek leads the band and cues them for changes etc. They do not signal him what to do or when to crescendo or pull back. They follow him at all times..
I really wish people would quit qualifying the statement Best "slide" Guitarist playing today. Hes one of if not THE best guitarists playing today period. No qualifier necessary.
Etown is very good, having the late great Kofi, as well as his brother on it. Look up the version from June 1 this year from Berkeley. I was there and it may be the best version I've ever seen of it, and I've seen a few
@@GCanCV pretty darn good! I would like to see this version in the etown manner. Produced for TV. I know the iPhone in my hand does it no justice, it was different, a click slower, which I liked.
There are probably a 100 better versions on line if you are willing to watch the entire show. These two arw just seperated out individually so are easy to find. Neither of those are nearly as good as many I have seen. This song has always been a relatively short solo.
Derek’s most physically expressive moments, to me anyway, are when he’s comping for whoever has the spotlight at the moment, especially when Susan’s going off or trading licks. Hope you keep reacting to TTB…best live band around! I’ve been stuck on their 50th show at the Beacon…fire start to finish!
I saw Derek with Eric Clapton with Doyle Bramhall all on stage together had to be 12 or 13 years ago I thought then he was probably the best guitarist that night on stage I’ve seen Clapton like 7 times
Derek has taken slide guitar where Duane Allman was heading before his untimely death, perhaps even farther. Susan, besides being a wonderful vocalist, is no slouch on guitar, either.
HIs uncle was Butch Trucks, one of the original drummers for the Allman Brothers band. I'm not sure that I believe in reincarnation, but I almost believe Duane Allman chose this man to inhabit his talent. Before Derrick, Duane was the best slide guitarist.
I liked your reaction a lot man. A lot of great insight to new/ non players. I’m left handed as well lol. Ichika grew up playing piano he blew up 6 years after he picked up the guitar and I think he’s closing in on a decade on the instrument. He’s great at everything he picks up
Really simple, Marcin is the greatest finger style acoustic guitarist on the planet, bar none. Classical, flamenco, rock, pop, metal, hip-hop, country et all, he can play any genre. And sorry. few if any of us can or will ever play at his level no matter how much practice. He was a child prodigy, playing complex pieces at age 13.
Very simply the greatest finger style acoustic guitarist on the planet. Check out his other vids; he can play classical//flamenco, rock, pop, hip-hop, country, metal; any genre you can imagine he is a master.
