love that after Verne Lundquist's "YEEEEEESSS!!!" that neither he nor Len Elmore said a word afterwards a just let the crowd's, player's & coaches' reactions speak for themselves. could have been stunned disbelief, or they did it on purpose. probably both.
always loved the shot of Laettner at 4:43, waiting for the inbounds pass with his hands on his knees, cool as a cucumber, looking like he had no worries in the world. it's almost like he knew exactly what was going to happen, even though he couldn't have.
the pass & the shot themselves were what they were, both amazing. but what I'll never understand is how and why Kentucky allowed Laettner to catch the pass so cleanly? everyone in the building & watching on television KNEW it was going to him... the players, the coaches, the fans, security guards, the cheer leaders - EVERYONE.
@14:35 these plain-as-day moving screens are the only ones refs called this tournament, giving UConn, and any team willing, a huge advantage (a nearly-constant moving screen violation team).
@15:43 Now he's on the receiving-end of a moving screen, far more subtle step into the player, but clearly a violation. The taller, slower/weaker & less-coordinated players are often too slow to establish a legal screen.
All year, Tessa was a 4th quarter starter. A special role that prepaared her end game play. She saw the emotions, intensity, plays that mark the 4th quarter; she had more experience and felt no pressure--nothing felt new. Dawn prepared her as a fourth quarter starter! Smart, coach.
One of the best things that you can also tell young aspiring female hoopers is to play against boys. All of the girls that I watched go D1 growing up spent significant time either playing up (against older girls) or against boys their age.
So to compete with Dawn's depth she is brining in 3 PGs for LSU to press ans wear down SC next season. I see Kim's strategy. Heavy guard rotation like how Dawn has.
Brilliant game plan, don't double team Edey and leave the other players open for easy shots. Let Edey get his points stop the rest of the team from scoring. (DONE AND DONE)
