We are participating in motorsport as a fun experience and we are probably unique as most of our sponsorship comes from crowd funding from lovely people like you.
From time to time we open up opportunities to help fund essential bits of kit so that we can compete as well as options to help fund entries to motorsport competitions for as little as £10
We create an extra video every week known as the midweek update video for our patrons and RU-vid members
your support as always is amazing and very appreciated , thank you

Agree totally with the tow bar. Having the removable bar on the Traveller is just the same with allowing me to have a perfect jacking point in the middle of the rear of the car to lift her equally. Makes it so much easier to slide in jack stands. Happy accident and all that.
Great explanation of all Kev. I would deffo agree with the boot floor and fuel tank. I'm personally not a fan of flat boot floors or fuel cells and keeping the original tank (or tanks) would be my go to. And a cheeky wee nod to my former youtube image as well so thanks bud :)
Interesting info about the extinguisher being too close to the side of the car. Can't say I've ever noticed any reference to it in the MSUK Bluebook. Was there a specific rule you were quoted as falling foul of? Great video as ever Kev.... always enjoy your content.
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam what confuses things further is the car was logbooked without issue with the extinguisher located in it's original location.....odd. Although scrutineers do have their pet things to pick folk up on..... maybe you fell foul of Mr. (Or Mrs.) Extinguisher!
Here you go, I talked about it in one of our mid week update videos ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4Los1pEwyuc.htmlsi=bhJ6u6BrGZv5c2eN
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam ooo.....ok......thanks for that. So, going by what you have been told, all cars with extinguishers directly behind the seats in front of the heel board would fail scrutineering too because unless the car is really really wide, there's not going to be 300mm from the extinguisher bottle to the outer edge of the sill. Personally I agree with you in your interpretation Kev and that the 300mm refers to the luggage space (ie boot) rather than the bit with people in. I'm going to have to get this absolutely clarified because in my non mini rally car, the extinguisher is behind the driver on the floor and not 300mm in from the outer sill line. Very strange and I'm glad I asked the question now.
Your car has such a nice stance as does the white Mini. Much better than the huge offset wide wheels so popular these days. What width & what offset wheels are you running? I’m fitting a Honda D16 to my street car and am concerned about torque steer, but still want 13” wheels to clear my big brakes. Thinking to go narrow on the wheels for best handling
Cheers - yea I loved the look and more important the handling - they were 13" with a 5.5 width - not sure what they came off but for autotesting they were spot on - wider offset wheels just made the steering heavy . when I converted this mini to its current rally spec I went down to 10" wheels but still 5.5 - I sold the wheels to Dave from classic car cave - www.youtube.com/@ClassicCarCave - he wanted them for his gulf sprint mini but decided he preferred the look of wider wheels.
@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam thanks for responding! I literally emailed the original Minilite company about their 5” & 5.5” wheels yesterday! I too got pulled into the wide wheel look, but now I think it looks silly when half of your wheel protrudes from the car. I think a Mini with 7” wheels kept inside the bodyline would look absolutely amazing, but that’s a fantasy reserved for Photoshop renderings! Plus the contact patch is effectively unchanged with a wider wheel on the same 175 series tire. Were you running disc brakes as well? If I remember right, many auto test guys still run drums, and those keep your track a couple inches narrower. Regardless my goal is to replicate your stance with my car 👍
Take a look at the Custom Cages bolt in cage. Fitted one in our car. No big bolts on the joints, uses half lap joints and cap screws. Fits tightly to the sides.
now you say that I have seen that cage - thats very nice and an amazing step forward in bolt in cage design - cheers fro the advice and glad you enjoyed the video
cheers, there are plenty more things I would change but the next video I think I will highlight some of the things I am glad I did do - glad you enjoyed the video
@@andrewlitchfield4843 Pateons and RU-vid members know all about it via the mid week update videos I make but don’t worry it’s only a mater of time before everyone on the main channel will find out too 😉
That’s Bernie the 1275GT that has been a very long term project, it’s stalled lately due to race car projects. You should check out the build videos as I have done so much to him over the past years, glad you enjoyed the video
If you contact motorsport uk by phone or email and tell them where you live they will give you a list of local scrutineers you can contact. I was lucky enough to find one that was coming to the Isle of Wight on holiday 😝 glad you enjoyed the video
good video, one think id say is the 'rule' about the fire extinguisher notes 'luggage compartment', which i take to be a boot ? pressumably as the cockpit is normally protected by the rops, but the boot isnt.
3.1.2. All extinguisher containers must be adequately protected and must be situated within the cockpit. The container may also be situated in the luggage compartment on condition that it is at least 300 mm from the outer edges of the bodywork in all horizontal directions. It is prohibited to mount bottles outside the main structure Yes that is interesting - it almost sounds that if in the luggage compartment it has to be at lest 300mm, however, does that mean if within the cockpit it does not? i might have to ask our club scrutineer for some conformation on this. glad you enjoyed the video
these seem like a better option over an adjustable. might need a few sizes tho. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mEOKwEu7MwE.htmlsi=4c-FQTAYA2FLRAZA
Not rallying but driving across Canada, we carried a small gas can (full), jug of pre-mix coolant, assorted WD40 spray cans. The only thing we didn't use was the petrol. We did get caught in a massive downpour so bad I was pouring water out of the spark plug lead boots. The WD40 was a god send and yes I bought new leads when we arrived home.
I took my R50 years ago to a guy in Bacup in Lancashire, he replaced my gearbox and clutch in less than 2 hours without dismantling the car to bits, without a ramp to.
Absolutely loved this IMM update. Thanks for sharing. Oh what fun and frustrations and thank goodness for Matt Green…. The Rally Picture-Rama was really cool and all the sites going and coming must have been wonderful. Hopefully you were able to see Katrin’s family as well…
Overall… sounds like a trip we made a few years back. Planned on taking the classic mini, but ended up renting (hiring) a convertible Bini. We have AAA coverage, but their packages are no where near as extensive. Basically all they cover is up to 200 miles of towing which is great for local drives with old cars. Glad y’all had a great time
About 10 years ago we went to France in our Rover 100 convertible, we broke down near Lyon I think and the AA were brilliant, we went to a hotel and we collected a hire car the next day and get this the wife the day after crashed that into another car on the motorway so we got another hire car and a couple of weeks later late at night in Dover collected a UK RHD car for the journey back home. About 10 days later I answered the phone and it was a car transport company saying they were in the street, I remember saying why is that? and the driver says we've got your Rover! So I've always been with the AA and always has Europe cover. Not sure if there's certain levels or after Brexit something has changed?
Totally appreciate your thoughts. I try not to do it on all the runs in a video, check out our patron page that’s where I post all of our sprint and rally stages in raw form with loads of extra footage . But despite the music I hope you still enjoyed the video
The new drum may not be concentric. So much Chinese crap on the market now. I would fit a set of alloy Minifins, good weight saving over those heavy cast drums. Big ends gone on the R53?? Sounds terminal
Cheers for the drum 🥁 thoughts, it mirrors my thoughts too. Ah that would be shame for the R53 so I best start looking for an engine or even car replacement, glad you enjoyed the video
Yes that’s a very good call, being an ex rally cross mini the chances of it having seen some wheel banging action is quite high, glad you enjoyed the video
I watched the video twice. That hay bale jump out in front of you. The only thing you haven't checked is the wheel bearing. A great weekend with your Dad. What more can you ask for?
the basic rule with sprinting is the more modified the car is, the more safety kit either you or your car needs - there is a very basic guide on the Isle of Wight Car Club website - here is a link, but I will defo make a video in the future on this topic - iowcc.co.uk/sprint/
It would be intresting to know if you should come to some conclusion with the binding rear brakes. I honestly just have accepted them to be a bit like that om my own minis. Nice video anyway!
The variety and quality of race cars at this event is Amazing. Also "Sir please step away from the Mini. It's not the first time and it won't be the last" Gutted for the hit but glad it wasn't serious for you nor catastrophic for the Mini
yea I was so annoyed at myself for pushing too hard, you would have thought I would have learnt my lesson by now - but no I loved that weekend despite all the issues - glad you enjoyed the video
Oh cool 😎 yea it was still blue when I bought it in the late 90s. I would love to know some history and who made some of the mods. And was it always that reg?
cheers, yes this event is getting bigger and bigger - the good news is the Island Stages came back in 2022 as a gravel event, this was basically to show Motorsport UK that we were capable of running a safe event and this year is the next development, a closed roads tarmac rally in November - check out this link - iowcc.co.uk/rally/. its all stepping stones and maybe, just maybe one day we will get back to the days of a multi stage rally on the island again - check out this video of us doing the island stages in 2022 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-toyZP0zmej0.html
no not that one and oooh it was a bit more damage than a missing wing mirror :( - so fingers crossed the full video of the event will go live next sunday - glad you enjoyed this video though
