I removed the air box snorkel and added 3 UNI vents to the door and modified my exhaust. I tried a 13 up front and just lost a gear. But a 15 with a 91 octane stage 1.0 tune sounds like it might get it where I’d like it on the road and dirt. (As long as I can still clutch it up in second.) And then I have to get the fork kit. I hate how the front end dives when I hit the front brake. And then……
Hey man, new to your channel. That was great info, thanks for that! Can you tell me about how you’re loading it on your van? I’ve got a lifted sprinter van that I want to get a bike for and this is near the top of the list for me
750 lb tongue weight hitch. 600 pound Black Widow motorcycle carrier I got on Amazon. Key locking hitch pin. Soft ties connected to the fork tubes or handlebars to prevent chipping. Short rackets going from them to the front mounting points on the carrier. Fork saver brace between the front fender and tire to protect the fork seals and make the bike more stable. Ratchet covered in rubber tubing wrapping under the hitch carrier and connected to the subframe or footpegs pulling downward to compress the bike centrally. Additional tie down running from handlebar closest to the van to the actual van hitch. Tie down running from left end of handlebars to right door upper hinge. Carved out yoga block or tennis ball on right handlebar end nearest the van to protect the glass.
Hi I saw a video you did with Caleb Hoover about audio. I have questions on how to use the S5iix with a tentacle sync E set. I've been getting super loud high frequency noise whenever I use the tentacle connected via a Y cable, 1 channel gets timcode signal and the other gets the sound signal. Mic socket is set to MIC. No other settings as far as I know. I use a sanken CS1 mic with a XVIVE P1 phantom power supply connected to it and a cable connecting xlr to 3.5 mm mini jack cable to the audio output of the camera. The sound is recorded fine when I just use the mic connected to the camera. It took me some time to understand that I get the loud noise only when I turn my tentacles on to sync with the HFs connected to my Zoom F6 external sound device. Help me please. Is there something else I need to set in the camera menu to be able to get a correct sound? Maybe the timecode menu? I don't get it... Thanx a lot!
Hi Nate - I use the same setup (sometimes two mt’s instead of the lift… and two biners for the anchor eight knot). How sketchy is the walk-up to set the anchor?
Not bad at all. I took a bit of an adventurous approach (the first camera angle after the initial talking portion). There's an easy gully left of that when looking up the approach. As for walking out on the ledge, it's short and you can always pop a cam or two in while building the anchor as a backup for yourself. It's a beautiful line as a TR solo. Give it a shot and let me know what you think of it.
Hi Nate, I have the exact same setup as you. Solis Pocket and the 300 Rally. What hitch carrier are you using? Did you have to upgrade the curt hitch and change anything on the suspension? Great video.
I got the 600 lb Black Widow one that was sold on Amazon for around $250. It’s held up, but I’ll probably upgrade to something nicer in the future or will reinforce this one somehow. There’s more wobble than I’d like in it. I upgraded to the 500 lb tongue weight curt hitch but the 750 lb one looks like a much better design for this amount of weight. I’d go for the 750.
Great video. Thanks for posting. What was the weight at the end of the mods? Too bad the eco-cunts banned 2 strokes. Imagine how sweet a street legal KTM 300 would be…
If u know how to ride offroad, these 50/50 tires like the D605 are actually great for these kind of bikes {except mud}. They come stock on the KLX, and air'd down to 13-14psi for slower speed trail riding they actually grab good. I have an air pump and on long trips I bring it with. Even DOT knobbies rob any enjoyment of riding on pavement, vibrate and cant lean into curves.
@@edword3457 right now I have a $37 Amazon battery one, bought the size of a silo beer can. I keep it in my pack, partially cuz it can be used to power my cell phone also that happened to be same type C port. But I was happy with my foot pump for $12.
Great 👍 review mate , Paul from Australia I have a 300 Rally as well and done a few mods so far , I do like your explanation on the 15 front sprocket as well 👍
Hi Nate, hope you are good. Is it possible to do a Video on your Van someday? You said you are living on the road and thats exactly what i am planning to do and exactly like that, with my CRF300L in the back. Dont like the designs of the most Camper Vans they are building in Europe, since they are mostly made for 4-6persons and i am planning on travelling alone or sometimes with my wife only. However, would be great, cant see anything yet on your channel. cheers from Thailand and ride safe Mos
Yeah! I’m currently in Bali, but I’ll have to make a video over the summer here. In the meantime, check out the Winnebago Solis Pocket and let me know if you have any questions on it. Happy to answer anything you wonder if you like the layout of it.
@@NatePoeppel hehe, a guest i had here for the past two month just left day before yesterday for Bali, Robert, a nice Irish guy. If you decide doing a trip to Thailand, Phuket, let me know we are having nice accomondation for guys on a budget here south of the island close to Naiharn Beach in the Jungle, green area, no noises except from birds and squirrels ;) WIll let you know about the Winnebago thx
Honestly not many angry people in that area. It’s a lot of tourists renting for the day with their families and they’re typically surprised or excited to see a bike riding the same path. I have an area near Phoenix though that’s a different story 😂
I initially looked at this bike and the rally version. The forks and rear shock are abysmal for off road use. (Not even as good as the old XR's/DR's) By the time you do the fork mod and swap the rear shock for something like an Ohlin piggy back - You are within $2000.00 of the Honda 450 RL, which is much better in every way. I have an old (91) DR250 I ride. It came with better forks and a piggy back fully adjustable rear shock.....In 1991. I'm still looking for a replacement for it, because in my mid 50's I'm getting tired of kicking :)
Thank you. Agreed. I would really love to have something like the 690 enduro r with a rally tower. That’s the next step up from the modded 300 in the light weight adv market imo. It just doesn’t make sense having that expensive of a bike out in the elements or at risk of theft constantly while I live on the road. I’m curious to see what comes out in the next few years! Plus I won’t always be in the van.
@@NatePoeppel can’t argue with that. I almost bought a new 701, just couldn’t stomach the price knowing I’d have to put another 2-3k into it to have what I want. have a DR650 i picked up lightly used that I put aftermarket suspension/tank/tower on. Not as modern as the rally but bullet proof and will hit 3 digits on the highway with a tailwind. Ride safe!
@@NatePoeppel thanks for the reply. It's hard for me to ride the 300L with confidence on stock tires and suspension. I'll be upgrading as soon as possible
first time viewer.Looks like a great setup. I've been dreaming of mixing van life and a bike on the back. I'm going to subscribe and hope you have some content that overlaps that. nice work on this video.
same here, planning on buying a Van too but most Vans are made for 2-4 persons and i am travelling alone or with my wife sometimes, so i would fit this thing totally different. Checked his Vids but cant find anything about the camper, would like that too. I am riding a CRF300L, sold my Rally after just 6month, it was just too heavy and it was the right decision.
