Welcome to our fun and crazy life. Our simple life of homesteading, farming, gardening, camping, and traveling suits us.
In 2019 Missy got a divorce, bought this country property, and moved from Little Rock area back to her small hometown. Rich moved from south east Texas to Arkansas in 2020. Then God lead us to each other! The fantasy became real…True soul mates. “ I have found the One whom my soul Loves” Song of Solomon 3:4. In 2021 We got married, started our homestead, and then established Miakinbak Farms, LLC . We have loved every minute of our life together.
Just like so many other homesteaders, we are constantly learning from each failure and accomplishment. We post videos of our experiences and adventures together, hoping it inspires others to become more self sufficient. It’s not always easy but we wouldn’t want to live any other way. Thank you for joining us. Rich and Missy
Hello! Is home canned coleslaw still crunchy when you open it? I love a fresh homemade crunchy coleslaw! I imagine the boiling process probably makes the cabbage a little mushy?

It’s not as crunchy as being fresh but it’s not bad. Adding salt to remove the water then the short 15 minute water bath just to make the jars seal….it doesn’t get mushy.
Thank you. Simple. You don't have clear gel (or you don't want to use it) just leave it out. A friend and I are going blueberry picking next week. She will eat this out of the jar. I will add some cornstarch and make a galette.
I don’t use clear gel and I have added corn starch when I’m warming this up. Like your friend, we eat out of the jar and we pour this out and make quick cobblers. Thank you for your comment.
I miss living on a farm. Grew up on one. In my 60's now I live in the country but no farm animals. Just can't take the country out of me! Just a country girl as my best friend told me.
I lived in Little Rock, beautiful town but I always missed living in the country. Moved back to my hometown about 6 yrs ago and now when I have to go to Little Rock, I can’t wait to get home
I want to propagate and overwinter petunias at the end of this growing season. I live in Colorado and I don't have a greenhouse. Can I take cuttings at the end of the summer and use grow lights in a cool basement room in my home? Do they need heat and light or just light? I would guess my basement room is around 55-60 degrees in the wintertime.
I would try to get them cut and roots started before placing downstairs. Mine rooted in 2-3 weeks. As long as they have light and don’t freeze, they could make it. I keep mine in the green house over winter and only add heat when it’s below freezing. Almost all of my basket’s survived. Good luck and let me know how it works for you.
I have a empty spare bedroom that is a tad cool and it gets plenty of light during the day but I am also going to put my grow lights on them and hopefully it will work out for me.
@thissuitsus4856 I am sorry. I shall be more simple for you. The picture in your thumbnail (the picture advertising your video) has flowers. The video is supposedly about propagating petunias (as per the title of your video). The flowers on the thumbnail are NOT PETUNIAS. The flowers are Calibrachoas. The end
That was the most incredible, awe-inspiring thing I have ever witnessed. While I appreciate your video, I have not seen ANY video do it justice. I was at Cooper Park. Glad you enjoyed it, friend.
Day 1: Start with equal parts I bleached flour and water. Set on counter for 24 hrs. Day 2 -7: remove half the contents of the sour dough starter. (This is the discard). Add 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water. Set on counter until the 7th day. Can then put on fridge.
I am sorry this is all happening, as a Canadian, I feel horrified you both have insurance but will have to pay thousands in medical bills & / or argue with the insurance to reimburse you. Also, what kind of nonsense is that that you can't get your prescriptions filled on a Sunday?
I feel awful for you! My husband and I are debt free, but he still has to work hard, and I'm disabled. Two years ago he was hurt in a car accident and couldn't work for a few weeks, then we got covid. Our money just drained away. It's scary. I hope your husband is better quickly and you both heal and get stronger.
Thank you so much for the kind words and sharing your story. We are going to a specialist in the morning…hope they have some answers and he gets back on his feet soon.
Why don't you fix the error - it's not 1 cup of light cornSTARCH at 0:13 (good grief!) it's one cup of light cornSYRUP. Sure it's in the description but since you didn't correct the mistake in the video, it's confusing to inexperienced cooks.
That might be one of your mistakes because you do not knead biscuits dough. The less you handle biscuit dough the fluffier. The more you knead the tougher usually. That's been my experience anyway.
If you fold your dough over and over to make layers don't twist your cutter cause that ruins the layers and don't roll your dough out so thin. Just helpful hints. Love your channel. God Bless and stay safe.
I learned not to knead it too much. I make homemade biscuits with out self rising flour. Because I don't need it too hard they come out just as light and fluffy. You kneaded like you were making bread. I make Bread from scratch too. My potato roll dough comes out just as fine as parkinson's rolls you buy at the store.
Hey… Aussie Aussie Aussie! I took a cruise many years ago with a ship full of Aussies. Y’all are the coolest people I have ever met! Loved the attitudes. Just GREAT people. Stay safe!
I love that you just gave us pearls! Yes, our economic situations are going to result in a lot of home time. I have been laser focused on doing exactly what you said so your video was confirmation that I am doing what I should. I have been cleaning 🧹, cleaning, cleaning, organizing, and throwing away. I am beautifying my environment and making it a comfortable as possible. Thank you so much.
That is one thing I always say, if you're cooking from scratch, no matter how many times you may have made a recipe, there is always the chance it won't turn out exactly right every time. BUT it still usually tastes good & you know what's in it. I enjoy your channel, thanks for sharing your videos.
Love your tips! What state are you in? I even flip off the breaker to the water heater, I only need it on for a few hours every three days for my needs. How many acres do you have, it looks like a great home/property!
We are in Arkansas. I have done the flipping off the water heater breaker and it saves tons of money. The water stays warm for days. I did this until it wore the breaker out and I had to replace it. It’s a great ideal that I might need to start doing again especially when we don’t have the kids home.
