i don't know if opinion right but i think your game and your UI is quite bright and a little blur,i think i think the UI need a little darker or make it look different when looking at it in general
The only thing I would suggest with the colour and brightness is that for colourblind cobbas (me) it is hard to see and make things out when there isn't much contrast. Very little contrast makes it pretty hard to properly pick out things happening in the environment. And that applies not just to colour blindness but anyone with any sort of vision impairment. Id look at getting more contrast into the colour palette and a bit more contrast between the environment and building objects. 4:51 is a perfect example, the farms are easily distinguishable but it wasn't until I had the video paused that I noticed the big exclamation marks, because the pastel kind of colour palette with no texture or contrast leaves little to distinguish. But this looks really good, im keen to see where it goes.
Very refreshing to see an indie game progress video that isn't for an "open world survival crafting"-game or some sort of roguelike/lite! Keep up the good work, it looks great so far! Also, Shaun Spalding is such a great starting point
You popped on my algorithm and holy shit I'm glad I found this video. Such an interesting and detailed short video of your massive journey. Best of luck with the launch 🤙🏿
Thanks! If you're interested in play-testing, I have a mailing list I'm planning on recruiting from for testers :) You can sign up here bit.ly/m/angkor
Hey man, your game's looking incredible so far! I would love to get in touch to talk about it, let me know if you're open to discussing further! Keep up the good work! Cheers.
Professional game dev here! I'm loving this project so far; I've subscribed and I'm excited to see what comes next! Here is some unsolicited advice aspiring devs may find helpful: * Have no zero days - Even small changes can completely overhaul a project! Consistency will get you to the finish line. * Polish over quantity - An engaging 30 min game is always better than a dull 5-hour one. * Playtest! Playtest! Playtest! - Get EVERYONE to play your game and get honest feedback from people who you are not close with. * Don't be afraid to change - Games evolve over time, so don't be afraid to simplify features or remove them, just be careful not to add too many! * Don't overthink it - It's very easy to overengineer, keep things simple and don't focus on unnecessary features! Focus on gameplay prototyping first and challenge your ideas frequently. As for your videos William, I think you have a ton of potential as this grabbed my attention over several other devlogs in my recommended. Stay consistent and rest often!
Looks very promising! I am a backend web developer, so the result of my work is usually far less visually appealing, so I enjoyed your workday a lot. When do you think your game will be available for wishlisting on Steam?
Super enjoyed this video, I like this style of game blog where you show what you're doing but also your real life, makes it difficult to feel like there's information overload and too many boring shots of the same thing repeated. Pog stuff
Have you noticed how your time just evaporates when you work on a game? It's like you code in a couple small features, but the clock advanced by a couple of hours
Yep definitely, some small things seem to take forever and some seemingly complicated things end up taking no time at all. Mysteries of the universe...
I'm curious why RU-vid has a video with less than 70 views about game Dev on my Recommendation list. Normally, when that happens, it means the video is about to go viral.
Looks amazing! As a beginner programmer, I understand your pain of working all day with no tangible rewards. So much of this stuff is still so confusing for me. I'm getting better every day though!
I feel your pain... on the same journey myself. Great job refactoring and rewriting all those backend processes!! Just finished a similar rewrite and can confirm that it made no visual difference to my game either ha.
