Great video. A few industry buddies of mine introduced me to F1 in 2001-2002. Early Sunday morning races at Jeff's house, drinking beer and a trip to the garage for weed, then watch the race. Turned out i didn't really care for a sport where Michael Schumacher won every race, so I walked away from it. DTS was indeed my second intro to F1. Very well produced in-depth analysis of each team, the drama and personalities of each driver. I even got my wife into it. We're in Canada, so we booked tix to the Grand Prix last year and had a blast! Who doesn't love Montreal? IMO, selecting A DRIVER instead of a team was a better way to get deeply involved. My guy is Checo...but i'm not a big fan of Red Bull in general due to its toxic nature. Verstappen's record breaking wins last year was a bit much for me. I'm assuming you boys are jonesing for the Austin race on the 20th (like i am). This has been the longest fucking break ever. Looking forward to more vids. Cheers
Thanks for watching! Agreed on picking a driver over a team first in hindsight. I think we both liked the team aspect of Haas and Williams from the first season of dts and went that direction but the drivers are more polarizing and more involved directly with fans for sure. Also awesome that you got to go to the Canadian GP, we hope to hit all the North American races eventually, starting with the US GP this weekend! Follow along for our updates and let us know if they match your experience
what a nice podcast!! Hope it is helpful to some! for me the foundation was placed by my mum back in the mid 70's to early 80's, when I was in my early 20's. She was really into cars and stuff so she took me to the Zandvoort GP a number of times and I loved it though I didn't really understand much of it other than that those F1 cars went fast and made a lot of noise and feeling the start from where we sat, going right through you, was a sensational feeling lol!!! Life took me in different directions after that, but through the years I did pick up on some of the big names but never gave it much attention. Until in 2021 there was this buzz in Netherlands, the Zandvoort GP returning at last and Max Verstappen clinched in a championship bid vs Hamilton.. So I watched, still didn't get much of the fineries (strategies and terminology etc) but it got me spellbound ever since. My english neighbour suggested I start watching DtS.. ok, I did... it was entertaining but same time I actually hated it. Instead I started looking for quality podcasts of pundits (preferably non Dutch chauvinistic I still really don't like those) and subscribed to F1TV paying close attention to the commentators when they explained things.. the learning curve. Also started reading up a bit on rules and that sort of thing. Oh since it was about Max I of course commenced with supporting Red Bull, and 2022 when all the broohaha around Pérez arose I became aware the team had 2 drivers! hahaha and Checo became my guilty pleasure and still is. My 2023-2024 moves have been to virtually adopt the young drivers from all teams as grandsons, now I feel very in balance, supportive to almost all that drive on the circuits and as for technical things and strategy I still continue to learn. The one mistake I made was join social media platforms, hoping to have positive discussions.. good grief the hate and toxicity there is incredible, it almost made me dislike the sport!!
Going to motorsport or car events in generally was huge for both of us especially Jeremiah as he grew up going to nascar races and car shows similar to how you did with the Zandvoort GP, we just didn’t have or know about F1 in the States at that time. DTS is super controversial especially for anyone with a background in racing or cars, it’s probably best suited for those that have very little knowledge of motor sports or prefer drama over racing action but we definitely both found it enjoyable even if it was embellished. The early storylines of Williams and Haas really brought us in as watching the races it’s not just about who wins but can Williams get enough points and sponsor money to keep racing and can Haas get enough money out of Gene to keep racing lol. Definitely agree on F1 social media being odd, Reddit was not a very welcoming place for new fans which really stood out to us as odd. You would think people would want the sport to continue growing but it sometimes does not feel that way. How did your mom get into cars?
@@turn1podcast I wish I bothered to ask her at the time.... really have no idea, and now there's no way of finding out anymore. BTW, you will have heard this? Announced today. Already next week at COTA in Texas, the HAAS team will have a new name branding also featured on their cars: Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR). Today it was announced that HAAS and Toyota have signed a multi year technical partnership deal. This means a Toyota return to F1 for the first time since 2009 and the partnership begins immediately. Full story on the official F1 site.
@@SuperPassionflower We missed that but TGR is getting involved in everything! Our buddy, Landan Matriano Lim that we interviewed a few months ago has also been involved with them racing in New Zealand and back in the US! They must be trying to really get a foothold now that they've reentered F1
skilled business man.. it requires a long term vision and the means to pursue it. this is what will pan out, not short term but (mid) long term (2 to 3 years + from now)
my ears perked up when Jeremiah came with his wishful thought about Colapinto somehow getting into a Red Bull or VCarb.. ever since last Sunday that possibility had been lingering in my thoughts tbh. Somehow I also can't shake the feeling that it could actually be Pérez already lobbying for this with Hornet and Helmet.. oops, Horner and Helmut. In that context the remark he made during the race I believe to be made from genuine admiration for the young chap. As Jeremiah actually points out, when a guy like Sergio who's been around for so long and seen it all, does this it means something. Also, I learned that it hardly ever happens that drivers compliment others during a race. I recall seeing footage post Baku of a situation where Franco was talking to media and behind him was a flight of stairs with the Red Bull drivers going up. Max quickly disappeared inside but Checo stayed out and was closely observing Franco down below, for a long time. Same time, Sergio is fully aware that he is in the final stages of his active racing career but he also has this strong feeling for everything latin American -of course foremost Mexico-; He's not going to stay on for more than 1-2 maybe 3 years if I look at his own recent statements, and it may even be so that he will announce retirement himself after Mexico or end of this season; to me that would come across as him leaving the arena with head held high and I'd love that for him. Specially if there's Colapinto from Argentina to take his place (or Yuki's). Last week I saw Checo post about 20 years of sponsorship by Telcel and thanking them for this extensively... Franco reacted on the compliment to Latin American media as follows: “A capo (slang for good person) I like him a lot, I used to watch him when I was little back at home in Argentina before I came to race in Europe, I’d wake up early to watch him race and now, fighting and racing against him is nice”
Maybe we should’ve waited a day to record this as of course the big news drops today that Lawson is in and Danny is out… thats step 1 for Red Bull making some big drivers changes going into the 2026 changes. If Lawson can take Checos seat by then and no one else has picked up Colapinto, RB may be his new team. What are your thoughts on the Ricciardo news?
@@turn1podcast Ricciardo... I'm sorry.. this was coming but this was handled in such an amateur manner and painful, disrespectul to Danny. Painful also for him to probably already know but not being allowed to speak openly about it when press asked questions... on the "capo" thing btw, someone from Argentina told me it's not quite just "good person" but "amazing person, a Boss in the way Messi is considered a Boss"
Definitely not in contention for the constructors which we think is what Lawrence wants. They could win the drivers (not Lance) if they make some big moves going into 2026
Imo, "Racing Point" and "Force India" are good names. Even tho they sound like a mouthful together Also, it's kinda sad that red bull's sister team went from a cool name (Toro Rosso) to.. That.
with Newey already starting at Aston Martin per March 2025 no doubt he'll immediately focus on 2026.. Seems to me Honda and Newey can work magic.. I don't know if Alonso and Stroll should still be there by then though..... Lawrence Stroll will have to focus on that lol
Agreed on Newey and Honda! They were a powerhouse at RedBull and that ideally would continue at Aston Martin. As for the drivers… if they want to win the constructors they need to replace at least one of the current drivers (we all know who that is). Realistically though to have the best chance at the drivers championship they will need to bring in a current top 5 driver as well in place of Alonso (who we do not know if he’ll still want to race by 2026)
@@turn1podcast I'd like to see Drugovich finally get a chance to show what he can do.. combine with Max Verstappen lol.. or if Max doesn't want to.. Norris or Piastri as I think these two lovely boys are heading for a serious and difficult to manage rivalry at McLaren .. one will be better off elsewhere
Good one! We definitely want to get close to Turn 1 (hairpin) at COTA, we’ll probably have our best chance during practice. We’ll see how close we’re able to get and record and post the sights and sounds! Stay tuned
Absolutely want to try and see how close we can get to the tower without having tower club passes! Also, are the hot dogs elite??? If so we’ll give them a go and post our first food review
@@turn1podcast I couldn't email the link that I mentioned in my other comment, plus I had added something that Stella had said 12th on BBC about team orders. it must have been a bug, I've just tried again this morning and the Stella thing is on its way to you via email
We both use F1TV but like to listen to the “international” broadcast which is just Crofty and Brundle’s sky sports feed. Occasionally for more info, behind the scenes, or tech info we will flip between broadcasts. What’s your preference?
hahaha Thomas.. will Checo win 6 of the 9 final races? haha, nope! hopefully, maybe just maybe 1 (sorry Jeremiah lol) but it's not written in the stars. Monza is in a few days... vamos!
Yeah Checo won’t see a podium most likely lol! We’re excited for monza, it’ll be interesting to see the true pace of the top 4 cars. We know they are all quick but nothing compares to monza in terms of pure speed. Who do you have winning?
Williams does not have a top 5 car in terms of pace. If they did, both drivers need to be gone along with every strategist. Logan consistently not finishing sessions across 2 seasons in a bottom 5 car would say that he would struggle in a top 5 car even more. Thoughts?
deciding on who gets a seat on any team depends on so many factors, it's not plain black and white, but many shades of grey are playing part and you can't ignore it, it also involves money and marketing interests. antiuser had good arguments regarding Pérez and the present RB20. This simply cannot be ignored. Also, I still am convinced that Red Bull wants to do all in their power to get Pérez back on his feet again and keep him.. also very likely that his contract is so cleverly put together that the cost of dropping him will hurt very much! It is possible that Red Bull may swallow the melon of perhaps losing the WCC but be aware the difference in prize money for coming 1st or 2nd isn't that much, moneywise! look up the 2023 stats. nr 2 does get more windtunnel time and that may be very beneficial for Red Bull at this point. Losing WCC ergo is nothing other than prestige lost. Let's also consider that 2025 still has the Mexican GP, and Pérez still has godlike status in Mexico and beyond. The GP contract expires end of 2025. But then the collab with Ford comes into play and Ford likes Pérez a lot. For marketing! Red Bull 's core business is selling the drink and other products such as merchandise and their core business is not in the automotive industry. They'd shoot themselves in the foot by dropping Pérez. Oh... and another interesting bit: recently Carlos Slim bought himself 20% F1TV shares.. F1TV being owned by Liberty Media if I'm correct... another factor.
Ohhhh interesting! So you have Ricciardo without a seat which is definitely possible! Also we didn’t mention Bortoleto but he’s cruising in F2 and is absolutely on a fast track to a seat. Do you think Red Bull should keep Checo through his contract or buy him out? Thanks for watching!
@@turn1podcast Checo is having problems with a car that was built for Verstappen (which he has stated is pretty much the opposite of what he likes) and even Verstappen isn’t digging the car that much. While he’s definitely having a slump in form, let’s not forget this was the exact same reason why Ricciardo left Red Bull in the first place (all attention given to Verstappen and none to him). I don’t think Red Bull has a better option at the moment, they obviously didn’t want Sainz and Lawson is too much of a gamble for the big team.
@@turn1podcast getting Carlos team up with Max would be 2 roosters, bulls or stallions on board, Carlos really would not want to play second fiddle to Max and Red Bull wants a clear nr 1 driver and a clear nr 2 driver.. and peace and chill vibes between the two.
We wanted to start working your suggestion into our videos so on our most recent Dutch Grand Prix Preview we added in some graphics and would appreciate your thoughts!
When there is a problem with one of the cars or driver, they have to go through the right process, first the team have to be summond to answer the infringements or rules broken.
If a car fails to comply, it MUST be disqualified. It's called the rules. That was Lewis's race all day long and George had an unfair advantage. Weight is very scrict and always has been - it gave us "The Silver Arrows" in the 1930's when they had to scrape the white paint off to meet the maximum weight limit. Your description of the race doesn't match reality - Lewis was catching George all the way - you're making things up, to suit your narrative! Not cool.
Thanks for watching! We 100% agree that George needed to be DQ’d. We just want a better system for determining these DQs/penalties before holding the full celebration and podium. There’s probably still people that watched the race and have no idea George did not win. What are your thoughts on how to fix post-race result changes?
Totally agree. McLaren boxing Norris to protect from a lewis undercut was weird. Lewis wasn't even close! If Lando had handed the position back immediately, none of this radio drama plays out. Glad he didn't receive an undeserved win.
The fact that they say they're F1 fans, and only started because of DTS, makes me sick as a fan, and as a person living in Continental America. You guys should do research and learn more about the sport. It's all spectacle now because of DTS
Lost some credibility the moment you opened with “if you saw the last season of drive to survive”. Love the show, but put very little faith in any of it being reality.
enjoying your analysis, as always. Nice opening with the shout out to the two recovery drives, Pérez and Russell, who both found themselves at the back of the grid due to their Q1 exit. To this I'd like to share what I came to understand. Yes Pérez did crash but in hindsight he should not have been out on the track for that pushlap. The time he had already set put him in a safe position to proceed to Q2. It was drizzling when he crashed and caused the red flag. Red flag means the clock stops. In this case the delay was long enough for weather and track to improve, so once the session was resumed he was out, and all others that did come out again managed to improve their lap times to cause Pérez to drop off. This would not have happened if there had not been a red flag... Then on Russell and the fuel thing. He was fuelled for the schedule to run push lap, slow lap, push lap andsoon. Instead Russell put in one pushlap after the other... So, not entirely Mercedes at fault but Russell as well...
Thanks for watching! Quali was definitely weird as you point out and not 100% on the drivers but it does stink that these two seemingly have problems more than the others. What did you think about McLaren swapping Lando for Oscar?
@@turn1podcast tough call. I assume that pre the race specific things were said and agreed on perhaps something like who gets P1 position after start turn1... also, perhaps it's like a longer term investment in Piastri's cooperation in the team to support Lando's quest to challenge Max.. and they did botch up Piastri's race last time around.. all in all.. it would have been better if they'd let Piastri through earlier after that pitstop and not let it play out the way it did for it came across very amateuristic! but... probably makes good DtS material.... just my two bits...
But MasterCard Racing point still makes sense what the hell do you call this team RB, people just think I'm talking about Red Bull. I just call it Toro Rosso to avoid the confusion.
I think the correct rating would be 1. COTA 2. Zandvoort 3. Bahrain 4. Baku 5. Abu Dhabi This is all based on opinion thought, so I understand if you don’t agree with me
I will be honest, i made the mistake of putting Azerbaijan at 4 because i expected better to come up but should have been number 2 with Dutch 1st, 3 and 4 bahrain and Abu Dhabi and COTA last
800 races is roughly 40 seasons. Lewis ain’t getting a podium for every race for 40 seasons so it would be much more. If you start f1 as young as you legally can which is 18 you would be 58 before you hit the bare minimum. Just thought it was funny
well done! what a race weekend it has been! so much going on, excitement from start to finish. Yuki's team fined 10.000 euro for arriving late for the national anthem.. Red Bull fined 25.000 euro plus Pérez 3 places grid penalty in Barcelona for bringing home the damaged car - unsafe conditions..
