Shawn, as a performer, what you can do with your voice and guitar is unmatched. As a songwriter, you write beautifully at a depth of melody and lyric that allows endless revisiting. And whether it's your own songs or others', you are able to reinterpret every lyric, re-ornament every melody with incredibl insight and creativity. Thank you, thank you.
Well, that song certainly ricochet me in time 😄…Dear Shawn, I was at a small concert you gave in Plattsburgh, NY many a decades ago and before fame came along. It is to this day one of my most cherished moments in life. Your voice, that acoustic guitar and the lyrics struck a note in my heart and you became an integral part of my life for a few years. But as you moved on, so did I. This song and many others still have a special place in my heart. So thank you for the music dear Shawn. Sending you heartfelt greetings from Germany 🙋🏻♀️❤️
This song is a touchstone of mine… I share it with my friends.. in this solo acoustic version, I can hear all those delicious harmonies and chord progressions in my head. Thank you for creating something that really does help us
The best concert I ever attended was on one hot Summer evening, upstairs in an remodeled, enclosed church balcony, where you opened for Richard Thompson. He's great! I went to see you. I thought that your guitar handler was a teenage boy, but you set up the stage, yourself, sans makeup. When you began to play, I got a clue. Wow! Such a tiny package just bursting with talent. I've seen you several times with your stellar sidemen. Most excellent shows. You solo with the D-28, unplugged, is really where it's at, though. That's a pretty, student model guitar in your hands, but it doesn't have the string tension to drive the top for dynamic response. How about an album of unpublished originals, solo guitar and voice? Brutally honest songs like the one above are commendable, but not essential to great songs, in my view. As for the selfie vids, you need some soft diffuse lighting, such as an umbrella reflecting the light off the inside towards the subject. Clive Davis bought up all radio ad time, years in advance. There's no explicit quid pro quo, but nobody else can buy radio advertising in the big markets. Someone ought to file charges for Payola, and sue for damages. If you are Indy, you have to find small, low power stations, within broadcast range of the big city. Ads cost much less. Buy some time, and then ask the salesman if he might be willing to have the program director listen to your ad which contains a clip of your music. If he likes it, he can play your songs in drive time heavy rotation. If they want your continued business, they might deduce for themselves that it would be good for them to play your recordings. Of course the drive time DJs will want to interview you, as well. Search: radio-locator .com (RU-vid won't let me link.)
I simply adore her. Her voice, musicality and songwriting are simply perfect. I saw her a few years ago in Mobile AL. She was sick with the flu but did not want to cancel and disappoint her fans. You don't see dedication like that very often. It is why us fans love her so much.
I simply love this woman. Here voice is sweet as honey and her songwriting as good as it gets. I wish she was coming closer to where I live this year. I saw her in Mobile AL a few years ago. She was sick with the flu but still performed because she did not want to disappoint her fans. That kind of dedication is what garners true love from her fans.
Praying that one day you'll reissue Whole New You. Bonefields, Another Plane Went Down, and One Small Year only got cooler and better with time. Can't wait to see more people discover these songs.
I saw you perform this and your other songs from Steady On at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA about a year before you filmed this and instantly fell in love with your vocals so to be able to see you and KT perform together in Wilmington NC a couple weeks ago I really felt like I had come full circle with seeing you again! LOVE YOU Shawn!!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to play your version. I think it’s beautiful. I think I’m close but something is off, I think my tuning isn’t quite right. I wonder if you would help me and share. I would be very grateful.
Such uncomplicated song perfection en pointe, and that voice - there is no one quite like Shawn, Joni comes close, and Chapin - but Shawn, like Nick Drake, has something else.
beautiful! love it! thanks so much shawn. 4 years later but it's still great! i love how you used many open tunings, just like Joni! :) i know you said you took a break from it but it looks like you took some from her and made it your own. <3
One cool remove-put me, put me One cool remove-put me there And forever let me stay One cool remove away One cool remove-from the things that hurt me One cool remove-from the sea and the city I see it all as a passion play One cool remove away One cool remove from the white sun Rising like a cloud upon the land One cool remove from the red moon Falling like a hand One cool remove-like a Buddhist bleating One cool remove-since all is fleeting I never come nor go nor stay One cool remove away
Shawn Colvin, your music has been the soundtrack for my heart from seeing you in Long Beach (?) CA c. 1978, then with Richard Thompson at Seattle Nights at the Pier (pure magic!) c. 1990, to the UPS Field House in Tacoma WA (“Found a way to rhyme something with ‘salmon’!” 😂😂). Thank youuuuuuuuu! 🫡❤️
Awesome… You are so talented. I’ve seen you live twice. Eugene, Or and Corvallis, Or. strange thing is I think we were on the freeway between NY and (Indiana?) You were, like me catching a bite to eat behind a gas station/truck stop. My husband eating subway sandwitch. If it was in fact you we chatted about music and weather and I didn’t ask if it was you. You were driving a small pickup with a trailer type camper. It was very secure looking rig, tho not brand new. I dunno, I thought I saw Bob Dylon once at a freeway stop…So could be I’m just weird.
Hey Shawn I have been listening to your wonderful music since the mid 90's. You have the sweetest voice and I can listen to your songs for hours on end. Bound to You is my fave but there are so many others!
