I got some plants from neighbours, but they never produce much and berries are small. I water and give compost but doesn’t help. Is that because they are too old? Can you not renew black currant?
Not a bad video, thanks for posting. My black current bush is probably about 4-5 years old and it’s now 6 feet around and is producing way more berries than I can use.
I'm jealous! All of my currant plants cost $10 each. The first batch I got I made clones of the pruned branches and doubled my number of bushes. Though I did buy more this year for a better variety. Now that i have several different kinds, i should not have to buy any more since I can just clone all my plants and fill my yard with fruit.
@@butterybiscuit346 I planted the pruned parts too, hopefully they'll take root. Now all I have do is wait 2 years for the fruit and the best pies in the county.
@@willlaurie2860 Heck Yeah! I used a pot for my clone cuttings and checked them a week or so ago and some of them had some good roots starting. Some of them weren't doing so well, but I checked the parent plant and i'm pretty sure they were dead when I did the pruning. Neither of my pink champagne currants did well. My titania black currants and my reds (forget which) are doing good though. This year I ordered some whites and a new variety of red and black each. Hope they do well!
Thanks Hue for this great info. I live in UK and beginning to grow veg in back garden inspired by few of youtuvers including urself from UK .. . What would u use to fill the raised beds initially. Everything seems so expensive so wondered. Like bulk compost bags ordered from b&q etc or top soil?
