I enjoy attending historic sports car racing events at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. I also have done an auto racing themed podcast with a few friends of mine. Here is a link:
I've got to tell you Ear, your videos get better and better for the old racing fans, like this one. Love the pit interviews and the prep that the vintage racers go through before their race. I'm an old track day guy driving Corvettes at Laguna, Sears and Thunder Hill. Your videos bring back all the excitement I felt before going on track. Thanks for all you videos.
@@TheRacingEar I wish I could still be out their on track. Retirement and some health issues have got in the way. I still have a Corvette (02 Z06) now, but it's just a fun car for Cars & Coffee's, Car Shows and car club cruise's. Thanks again for your videos.
@@TheRacingEar Back in the day I attended the CanAm and Trans Am races and turn 5 was the place to be to watch these guys set their cars for that corner. Very loud!!
@@thevettboy brilliant! Back in the 60s and 70s? Full chat through there with massive testicular fortitude!! That was a flat out chute for them when circuit was so much faster. I only saw 1985 imsa gtp race in that configuration. So much speed!!
Back when commentating was good, the cars sounded like f1 cars, and Netflix didn’t turn the series into a docudrama. Now every idiot with a subscription thinks they’re the foremost expert… since 2018.
Hi say what is name brand of that radio in this car. I have the 2004 is300 radio not work anymore. Also i got a bad smell coming when i turn on the fan. Thinking fan got mold on it
no RENAULT 16 showed in the thumbnail..??!!..not really a race car but the TS with its 80 hp on double carbs & 900 kgs was a great car on twisties...with modern shocks & tires i could see it on any track ,no problem..!
amazing..i'd be curious though, to know why these guys don't seem to be interested in using modern tires & brake disks/pads...at 4.53..this non ventilated/plain disk could be easily replaced by a modern version to optimise the braking power & reliability..maybe it goes with having the same braking feeling & sensation of 50+ years ago..!!
Thank you for this. Last year I was able to take my kids to this. They enjoyed themselves immensely even on the one day we went. I had forgotten when it was and they got excited when I mentioned it to them only to realize I had missed it by a week. Now I have something to show my son and my daughter of what went on there. I’m sure they will recognized some of the participants. But now I’ve got more, as my son calls them, ‘neato old cars’ to show them. I wish we’d been there to see those Maseratis!
Welcome back Racing Ear, the season has started! Great editing job on this vid. The new surface looks great at Sears and will have some record breaking times throughout the year in all classes.
Racing Ear, the season is upon us. Sears Point looks great with new paved track. Sure love the sound of the V8's pounding the new surface. Keep your videos coming, they a great. Lincoln Ca. Corvette Guy😀
Nicely done! It was a great weekend, but since I was busy driving and fixing broken cars (mine and another), I didn't get a chance to walk around the paddock or watch much racing, so this video is great.
@@TheRacingEarthe #12 Sprite. A buddy put a rod through his oil pan first thing Friday and I snapped an axle Saturday morning. We each missed one session.
The 935 is my absolutely favorite car of all times. I had no idea of the placement of the intercoolers. Fun to see even on this car checking for intake leaks and giving those 13mm nuts an extra little crank. Great to see and hear all those 2002s and Alfas on the track.
Ok...I listened to your podcast and got the full story on the McLaren tent. You made some good points with Senna's car being driven by Kanaan. 👍 Hmmm maybe I will save up $110 for next year, and attend.🤔
Lots of memories with the CanAm cars back in the day. I saw most all those cars run in the late 60's and early 70's at Laguna Seca and also at Sears. Got to meet Denny Hulme and Peter Revson at one of the races at Laguna. Back in those days there was no Andretti hair pin, these cars would come out of turn 9 (which is now turn 11) and pedal down all the way up the hill to the Cork Screw. Thanks for all your videos, really enjoy them.
Thank you so much!! I'm old enough to remember the chute at Laguna Seca that went from turn 1 to turn 4. It was a proper section of the circuit back then. I was at the Coca Cola Summer Sprints in 1982 and I saw a big accident right after turn 1.
Did you get any video footage of the Group 7 cars, or the 917K racing? I would have liked to attended, but the admission was pretty expensive I thought. As always I enjoy your video channel!👍
Yes. I did. I saw a doozy on the first lap on Saturday. Gunnar drove the white and blue 0 917 with cookie cutter exhaust pipes. Most different sounding 917 I’ve ever heard. But the 917k that Mccallister had brought #21 didn’t run that day. Chris M drove his McLaren m8f. I’ll put that video up soon. Thank for watching Greg. Have you heard my podcast ? Can you please leave a review ? podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-racing-ear-podcast/id1554793271
Yes, that's how I started following your racing reports is through your podcasts. Then you started your video channel, and I started just following that. Both are excellent!😁👍 Yes, I am looking forward to your posting of McAllister racing Denny Hulme's M8F...pure, unadulterated "eye candy" that car is! It's hard to believe that car was racing in 1970...still good looking and modern. One of these days someone that owns one of the M20 cars will bring that to the track, as I would love to see that. I've never seen a M20 race in any posted videos from anyone. I have never seen Hulme's #5 M8F at Sears Point, or a 917K for that matter, I have to drive down to Laguna Seca to see them in the past. If I can catch them at Sears Point it is better as it is a much shorter drive from the Bay Area. I have actually met you before at turn #2 at Sears Point maybe 5 years ago? Thanks for doing what you do, as I can't get to the track as often, so you are my eyes and ears!
Thank you so much! Chris or possibly his son Alex actually had a engine issue with his M8F at turn 2 and needed a tow. I think turn 2 is the best viewing spot at Sears Point. @@infrequentgamer_greg
Can Am video is up. Prices were highway robbery. But after thinking more about the price it was a bit more fair than I thought. Mr Producer got in for free when I paid 110.00 for the saturday ticket. The cars that were there were so perfect. @@infrequentgamer_greg
I watched it...excellent video!👍😁 I was supraised with the problem with M8F at turn #2...it looked like he was going to roll backwards...that would have been a bad scene, if he did. (Was that Chris McAllister? He has in the past worn a replica of Denny Hulme's helmet). $110...yeah, pretty steep for Sears Point...that's more like Rennsport Reunion territory. Some of the reasons I didn't attend either of these events! I saw one of your other videos with the start-up of the F1 McLaren...did they actually set up their own tent in the paddock? Whew, those folks sure didn't compromise for this event (probably part of the reason the admission was so high)! Great work on your part...always enjoy your video (and audio) posts.
I could be wrong but is that just one exhaust connected from both sides of the engine into one tip and the wastegate next to it ? Or am I trippn it seems like two different exhausts 🤷🏽♂️
Great video Racing Ear. Wow you guys saw and talked to some really great legends in motor sports. What a fun time that had to be for you and I'm assuming your son. I saw many of those cars run back in the day at Laguna. I stared going to that track back in 1962, many changes at the track since then. I was also able to do some HPDE track days driving a 98 Camaro and two Corvettes. Times I will never forget. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks
Thanks very much. Please check out my podcast. I interviewed Dan Binks of Compuware Corvette Fame !! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tre-ep-34-dan-binks-racing-memories/id1554793271?i=1000550299266
Take the modern safety design, remove all the aero except a simple front and rear wing, no DRS, no drivers aids or management electronics, and F1 would be fun again.
Hey Racing Ear, are you doing some karting? I have gone past that sign on HWY 50 many times thinking that there is a karting track out there some where. I was a karter back in the day, racing 80 cc shifter karts and 125 shifters as well. We would race at the tracks in Stockton, Atwater and Sear Point. Lots of fun, now 75 years of age, that's a little bit much for these old bones. If you are karting, have a blast.
