This is a collection of some of my best movies from 2005 to the present. Many of these movies pertain to weather and in particular lightning. A few showcase boat traffic in and around the Duluth, MN area, my second passion.
This happens from time to time and with many ships that go through the harbor. Winds, currents, malfunctions, many different things can cause this to happen. It's been many, many years since a ship missed the turn and ended up crashing into a pier or doing any damage.
Let's hope the Arthur Anderson never gets scrapped she's a historic vessel ..she sailed with the Edmund Fitzgerald on her last voyage in 1975 before the Fitzgerald went down with all hands
I noticed absolutely no one even moved when they announced Please get back from the ship. People even began to come from other places to see what was happening. Looks like they even had kids with them. Then they will wonder why the kids do not pay any attention.
Yeah! This is Way cool! When I was a kid (a…. while ago now), there were still a lot of those ships still afloat and working, and most of them were still powered by double or triple expansion reciprocating steam engines. There was a steady procession of them, 24/7 and you could hear their deep toned, resonant steam whistles around the clock, especially at night when it was generally quieter. And the sky over the water was often full of smoke from their boiler fires. If you were near the water when they passed and signaled an approaching ship, you could feel it in your chest! Today, most of them are diesel powered, and they have air horns instead of steam whistles. Their pitch is not as low and they’re not as resonant but I still groove on their sound. I have always loved the Great Lakes and the ships that navigate them. I have had my own boats out on them and I learned Great Respect for them! If you’re going out there, Better you bring your -A- game!
The Chesnut Ship Horn Was The Best One Other Like The Cason J Callaway. And their ship horn sounded like the're saying Merp From Tytolis Merp 24/7 Live Chat 😄😄Chesnut Ship Horn: MERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP
Fun fact, This very video brought me to the new age music genre. and now, Medwyn Goodall Wayne Gratz and Marshall Styler are some of my favorite new age artists.

Lived there so long ago, while in elementary and used to sneak into that building with friends. We were “ghost hunting” but it had a roof then… or most of one. It’s been a good 13+ years. Lots of vandalism and building was condemned for various reasons when we went as far as I heard.
The old girl gave it her all and served the area proudly for nigh 100+ years; and she went out like a lady, giving us a final bow for her years of service. Some today say while in the area, swear they can still see it around the bend. And they can, in their minds forever. Farewell Wagon Wheel Bridge, but not so to the now immortalized memories.
Maybe not along the lines of cruise ships but they are beautiful - working ships, each with their own "voice"; people forget that they are also home to their Crews as well👍🌹
