I was fifteen years old that day. I perfectly remember the excitement over the concert and the fact that the city was chosen for the next Olympic Games in 1992. That concert was celebrated for it. From the base of the Venetian towers I could see this masterpiece. Today, when I walk by the fountains I can feel the same magic as that day. I cried when Freddy died, for the end of Queen and for never seeing that duo again at the Olympic opening show with our Montserrat and our city in the background. By the way, I recommend listening to the entire "Barcelona" album... I've loved it all my life...
I grew up listening to this. Never knew the story behind it until 2018. Had some friends listen to it & they said "moving but too simple" I told that was the point, all we can do is imagine & isn't the anticipation the best part?
The video is amazing! However, ughhh…. this isn’t the album version. In this video cut, they just repeat the chorus and fade. There’s actually an ending to this song. It fittingly coincides with a poignant part of the film. It has more depth & meaning. The coda that you don’t hear in this video is the best way to end the song. Mainly orchestral and a perfect finale. So please, listen to the album version someday.
Most people don't know or realize that Michael McDonald, of the Doobie Brothers and solo artist, sings back up vocals on this track. Just another reason this song was magical.
