I grow vegetables, flowers, herbs, and native plants in my garden in Maryland (zone 7A). Topics include growing plants from seed (including Winter Sowing), garden bed preparation; and then planting/transplanting, harvesting, and using what I grow. I also do videos on canning and preserving food, easy/cheap recipes, and herbal medicine. On occasion, I create calming videos that share the joy and peace of gardening and nature. Occassional bonus guest appearances by my dogs River Song and Leeloo (pronounced Lee-Lu).

On the poblano, they need to be fully ripe (red) before saving seeds.

so you can winter sow tomatoes and peppers? I am inb zone 5b and concerned they wont be large enough to start producing in time. what type of tape are you using?
@EsthersGardeningAdventures
@EsthersGardeningAdventures 9 дней назад
I use duct tape. Yes you can grow them using winter sowing in your area. For peppers, given how short your grow season is, you may want to test started them indoors vs wintersowing to see which yields fruit faster once transplanted.

It's too bad you have to go through all of that trouble. My renter neighbors gardner has sprayed my palm tree 2 times already, almost killing it. They over spray onto my property. I have brought it to the attention of the gardener, but now I think they've hired a new gardener. I live in an association and they don't allow a barrier like the one you've put up. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to report someone, even though I don't want to do it.

Just had them for the first time after my buddy picked a few pounds off our local disc golf course and they're delicious! Cleaned them with a salad spinner using distilled white vinegar and rinsed. Been eating them by the handful and adding them into my Vitamix super green blend of Apple, carrot, kale, spinach, celery, ginger and turmeric root with some pepper corns... adds a great sweet tart flavor bonus! I'll be trying this but just using the Vutamix for a no cook liquefied juice concentrate with all the fiber and nutrients.

That's awesome and I'm going to try making a super green blend with them too!

@@EsthersGardeningAdventures Yeah I honestly think it's kinda annoying 😄 hearing it called "invasive" when it's so deliciously useful. Surprised it's not grown as a fruit juice crop with how easy it grows and much fruit can be easily harvested off the bushes. 🙄

Those radish tops make excellent kimchi...they go well in soups and stews also. Agreed, don't throw them out. They are highly nutritious and very tasty. They can be used like any other leafy green, though I recommend cooking or fermenting...raw...not so much :)

Beautiful flowers and love your arrangement! I applaud your perseverance in keeping seedlings going. I haven't started my fall greens (lettuce, kale, and spinach) and I do love them so in the fall/winter. The horrible heat this year has sapped my energy a bit, but we're supposed to have a few cooler days this week so I hope to get some seeds in the ground! Thanks so much for the encouragement.

I just planted an ever-bearing dwarf mulberry bush. This will help me in the next couple years. If the mulberry ripens like my blackberries that will be fine. Pick, wash, freeze repeat for a few weeks then process. Being that it’s everbearing all summer, it just sounds like I can eat as I pick the rest of the garden.😊

Precisely what i just told a neighbor...i count this action as disrespectful! He must be deaf because he has listened to me rant because another neighbor sprayed herbacide and my tomatoes caught the drift...i looked up and the guy was spraying in the alley...im like NO...and he acted as if i was disrespecting him! Took an afternoon and some iced coffee and streamed your winter sowing videos. What a joy! I feel totally prepared for trying out winter sowing this year! I have an espresso shop up the street from me, so am going to ask them to save milk cartons for me! It's still summer, but that gives me plenty of time to get my drain holes drilled and my cartons cut and plenty of time to search seed catalogs and websites to find the seeds I want to sow. Thank you for so much information...I don't think you left anything out! I feel reasurred that even I can succeed at winter sowing! I have a few more videos to watch, but this old lady needs to cook dinner!

Hey Esther good to see you and update on garden, I just went thru Beryl hurricane and can relate about tree story, my shade tree in back fell and fell between garage and fence missed power line and gas meter, very lucky, had one small hole in garage roof due to branch but otherwise very lucky, I too struggled with some blossom end rot and have to agree with comment below I believe it’s just inconsistent watering but still got pretty good tomato harvest, looking forward to your next update.
