First, I spent an hour trying to get the actual Conform add-on to work properly before giving up in bewildered frustration. Next, I found this tutorial, spent 7 minutes following it and everything worked perfectly. Finally, I spent 10 seconds deleting the Conform add-on from Blender Preferences. Thank you Stephen for such a beautifully clear and concise explanation.

I've been trying for weeks to work out how to do this, to get some complex 3D meshes of proteins to snap to a nanoparticle - basically a sphere, but absolutely wasn't going to pay for the Conform Object plug in! And it works perfectly.

Does this need to be done a specific axis, to work properly? Trying to accomplish this with a design we've been working on here and when we get to the rotate/scale step everything goes wonky haha.

I don't understand what purpose the plane sserved?
@brissen5186
@brissen5186 6 месяцев назад
I'm not hundred percents sure, but probably it serves to uniform distribution of the snapped mesh (in this case the arrow) over the surface (sphere). Otherwise (I tried to do this without a plane) you would have to tinker with vertex groups, weights and who knows what else.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 06:12 🖼 Scene presets consolidate everything into a single file, making sharing and organizing scenes more efficient. They encapsulate all objects, scenes, and images within the preset file. 13:12 📂 Scene presets are stored in preset folders, but users can create custom preset libraries and easily transfer presets by sharing the preset files. 16:51 🗂 Users can add, remove, or edit preset locations in LightWave 3D preferences, allowing flexibility in managing preset storage locations. 20:10 🌳 Model presets, similar to scene presets, allow efficient organization and sharing of 3D models. They store objects and textures within the preset file, enhancing portability and ease of use. 23:44 🔄 Model presets can be added to specific folders, ensuring organized content management and enabling easy retrieval of objects for various projects. 26:28 📂 LightWave 3D allows organizing presets into folders, streamlining asset management. 27:40 🗂 Presets with red dots indicate external files, saving space by referencing rather than embedding assets. 30:16 🖼 Adding multiple objects to presets is effortless, supporting quick library organization. 35:14 💡 IES lights preset library offers 43,507 files, enhancing the usability and visual selection of lights. 50:09 ☁ Volumetric presets provide easy atmospheric effects, enabling quick adjustments and storage of settings. 52:39 📚 Image presets can be challenging to manage; utilizing Google search might be easier but lacks organization. 54:01 🖼 Utilize image presets efficiently in LightWave 3D by adding single textures or entire directories with recursive folders. Presets display file origin and resolution. 55:12 🎨 Applying images to selected surfaces is made simple in the preset system, allowing quick loading and seamless integration without manual adjustments. 58:22 🔍 Implementing search strings in image presets streamlines the process, creating filtered libraries based on file names and descriptions for easy retrieval. 01:08:00 🌱 Fiber Effects presets simplify complex setups; users can layer presets, enabling quick experimentation and creating varied, intricate hair designs. 01:17:56 🎨 Origami Digital demonstrates using weight maps for ecosystem creation in LightWave 3D, allowing artists to define areas with specific objects like trees, rocks, or buildings, simplifying the setup process for intricate scenes. 01:19:34 🔄 External image updates in tools like Photoshop or Affinity Photo are automatically reflected in LightWave, enabling quick iterations and changes to textures and object placements without extensive reconfiguration. 01:20:50 🌴 LightWave's instance and preset system allows effortless object substitution and layout adjustments. Objects can be replaced or rearranged easily, enhancing flexibility in scene design and reusability of setups. 01:22:46 🌈 Animated color changes in textures can be seamlessly integrated, and distribution patterns can be animated based on image sequences. Proper color matching is essential for consistency in the distribution setup. 01:27:01 ⏳ LightWave's motion presets system simplifies animation management. Users can save, combine, and recall specific motions or poses, allowing for efficient character animation workflows.
