Truly enjoy your videos, my ancestors were Scottish and I was, raised by my Nova Scotia Scottish Grandmother and great gran so its nice to see their historical past. I've lived in Denver for yhe past 36 years. Last year we had a very rare sighting of a Pine Marten in the western sunburb of Lakewood, located in the foothills of the Rockies. They are referred to as Martens here and for one to travel down the wooded mountains is very uncommon.
My grandparents homestead in Alabama, USA. They built a barn and they moved in with the kids and chickens, goats, mules, pigs and lived that way until they were able to build a house. My grandfather never bought anything he could make. He bought more land and was eventually a very prosperous farmer in the area. The house had a detached kitchen in case of fire and outside privy, a well with water tower and windmill. There was a smoke house for preservation of meats. Eventually, there were two barns in addition to the house. In the 50’s my parents moved back to take care of my grandmother. Dad put in an inside bathroom. There was a pump in the kitchen. There were fireplaces everywhere and one child had died when bed clothes caught fire . They had ten children, but only 5 grew to adulthood. Scottish ancestry: MacRae
Hi!! I’ve been following your metal detector site for some time, and followed this channel too! Well the time has finally come, and I have booked my dream vacation to England & Scotland Halloween week and I wanted to know-what tour company do you work with and/or how do I make arrangements ?! It would be epic to be able to book a tour with you !!!
😂can you begin what being posted to Britain was like for a Roman soldier the weather alone must have been a total shock especially up north along that wall 🥶🥶🥶🥶
An amazingly beautiful city! Great job in keeping its historic character! Ironically I think it looks more "British" or I should say looks more like what most foreigners would think London and the UK in general would look like than London or any other British city ever has really looked!....if that makes sense...
I, an American, drove with a friend to Kingussie in 1980. As we entered the town, there was a road sign, pointing right, that said "Ruthven - 1 mile". Since my last name is Ruthven, I intended to go to the pub in Ruthven and buy a round for everyone. But alas, there was no town (and no pub). So we settled for the ruins of the Ruthven Barracks. I have photos of it, but see no way to post them here.
WOW John that is an incredible virtual tour and so breathtakingly magnificanent and absolutely gorgeous! You were a whole lot braver than I was just sitting here watching when you went out onto the rocks and looked down on those sheer drops.
Just want to point out that contrary to popular belief, the wall was not built to keep out the Scots. It would be a few hundred years after the wall was built before the Scots invaded, conquered the local tribes, claimed the land and renamed it Scotland.
@@coinneachmaclellan3121 Yes, I believe that is the case. But certainly in England, most people would tell you (wrongly) that it was built to keep out the Scots.
@@Martyntd5agree. It was did built to control trade. A kind of early toll road tax. Scotland was far from being a unified nation then and hadn’t made any large scale attack into England. The wall was about making money, by controlling trade, distribution and profit, while defining the border of Rome after they had earlier abandoned the Antonine wall.
You should visit a place called Maryport around 25 miles down the coast from Carlisle. Roman museum with some of the finest examples of roman headstones anywhere outside of Rome. Also right next to the museum is a field where the outline of a very large Roman garrison can be seen. All right on top of cliff with views across the solway and over to Scotland.
A time when England didnt exist untill the romans finished fighting with the welsh and left Britain only for the next invasion of britain by germanic tribes
snp buy out oil gas companies and close them with 10000s of jobs gone & massive taxtake gone. Same with UK military. Pukin would love abln indi Scotland
