Why should anyone be interested in my opinions?, for a start I'm well versed in the world or coasters and have ridden over 900 differnt ones around the world, as far afield as Japan, Australia, South Korea and Mexico. I've ridden every unique RMC model and have ridden a large number of the most significant and influential coasters worldwide, including the tallest, fastest, steepest and longest coasters ever created.
My personal Favourite Roller Coaster is Hakugei at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan, a Hybrid Coater manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) My favourite wooden coaster is EL Toro, manufacturered by Intamin and located at Six Flags Great Adventure.
Absolutely phenomenal coaster though I’ve got to say the switch between positive and negative Gs does leave me with a little bit of a sore head after I ride it that being said I don’t think any other coaster I’ve been on can compare to it.
2 rides on it, one mid train but slightly on the back end, 2nd ride backrow, backrow definetly felt more intense, the first drop is crazy closest ive come to a free fall feeling ive had on a coaster
Rode Hyperia twice today (first times) later in the day in the middle and the back row and the latter ride was so good and both my rides were buttery smooth so maybe I was lucky on what train I got. I ride coasters very often so am somewhat acclimatised to the g forces but the first drop was immense and that outer bank reminded of a gyro swing where you're falling at a weird angle. I loved it. It's not an intense coaster by any means though which I think makes it an excellent coaster to challenge those who have not ridden many. And it's clearly the best in the park. Wish it was twice as long.
THE SAUSAGE ROLL 😂 You've earned yourself a subscriber with this in depth review. I'd love a more fittingly elegant name for Hyperia's unique element like the Golden Roll but knowing British people I think Sausage Roll is more likely to catch on 😂
imagine they extend the layout over the off season to add some airtime hills a blue fire roll and lessen the trims (I am being so delulu but i would die for that extended layout)
it shouldn't be impossible just keep the outerbank put and s hill to change directions add some bunny hills and maybe a trick track double up banked turn or outerbank snap like velocicoaster but more sustained to go back down and change directions have a blue fire roll close to the ground and then an airtime hill back into the brakes, it would lessen capacity but would improve the ride so much
Hyperia looks good but it it isn't the best Mack coaster by far, and possibly not as good as The Smiler or even Icon, which is bested by Helix in Sweden. Thanks for an honest review!
The way you described the outer bank\barrel roll downdrop is exactly what I expected. I thought it would ride like a combo of Steel Vengeance's outer bank and Iron Gwazi's barrel roll downdrop.
WOW this is the review i was waiting for David! Someone you can trust coming from a lot of experience... all your points are extremely spot on i think. also good news that the main drop doesn't disappoint - how does it compare to say Iron gwazi or Skyrush.... also think the Big Dipper style wing seats would have been better, its more a giant big dipper than hyper coaster. edit - we should not have expected Thorpe to build a long ride should we.
In the back, I'd say the drop beats gwazi and skyrush! Big dipper seating could be interesting, but it would loose the heartlining for the outer seats in elements like the sausage roll.
I'm great with calling that the Sausage roll. If Greggs sponsored the ride would anyone really mind? The ride & element would be advertised in common shops all over the country. The queue snack kiosk could have a better selection and they could add a bit more landscaping with the extra cash. Need some more bins in the queue line too.
Excellent review, which I agree with. It's a fantastic ride but I don't rank it as high as Fury 325, Steel Vengeance etc as it has such a comedown at the end. It could have been one of the world's best coasters... if there was a second half full of airtime hills.
I know it's short but that first drop and outer bank put it in my top 10. I just need to find a day when it's quiet and it's included on unlimited fast track ha (one day). Also I'm pretty sure the first drop is a little over 90 degrees, looking at it... which is why you come out of your seat so much!
@@RollercoasterDavid I know... but to me it really looks like it could be just that bit over. When you look at where the drop starts and where it ends, and take the roll into account I think it's moved that little bit. The drop looks kinda weird for that reason. I think anyway. And if you wanted to ensure airtime on a coaster... make the drop just that bit over 90. Maybe its 90.4 degrees =P
I've been told the rattle is just on one train, personally it wouldn't surprise me it this is down to the suspension of the wheels, similar problem to two of the trains on Voltron
Rode is 4 times yesterday and 3 times the day before. Front row, back row and in the middle. I didn’t hear no rattle. Was the smoothest rollercoaster I’ve ever been on in the UK/Europe.
I got two rides on it yesterday, absolutely world class coaster. I actually didn't mind the length at all, as I found the coaster super intense and any longer might have been too much. It's just a smidge below Ride To Happiness and is my no. 3 overall.
Hopefully I'll ride this in September! In that dead zone between Oktoberfest and Halloween, hopefully the crowds will be manageable then. And hopefully the teething problems will be sorted. Looking forward to it immensely. I couldn't help but notice you said "Hyperion" there a few times. I imagine that's gonna be a common theme with this one.
Great video as always! I got the chance to ride this a few days ago and it was definitely more intense than I was expecting, obviously not as intense as a 90s B&M invert, but still fairly intense. For an inverted coaster the airtime is impressive and the trains are some of the most comfortable I have ever ridden on, I hope Vekoma do more thrill coasters without the vest restraints. Can't say I enjoyed waiting 75 minutes for it though 😅
@RollercoasterDavid Sadly just one train at the time of queueing. The park also seems to oversell its fastpasses as the queue was bearly moving for 20 minutes with trains still cycling. Fortunately they did put on a second train by 3pm, so with the school trips also now gone it became a 10 minute queue, so I did manage to get a few rides in.
AMAZING LIST!!! 🤩 I'm so happy Hakugei got some recognition! I'm surprised that Iron Gwazi and Steve aren't on the list! But I mean they aren't on mine either, so...
I loved Steel Dragon 2000. I was in the last row and I screamed out loud as I was pulled over that first hill. It felt like someone ripped a tig from underneath my feet. I had seen a POV earlier (first row) and I stupidly expected to crawl over that hill. The ride conserve so much energy by not adding any turns until after the third hill. That's why it can take those other two massive hills and keep that amazing speed.
I'd say they're less aggressive and are more likely to have airtime. In general I think they're targeted more towards those stepping up from family coasters to bigger rides rather than out and out thrill rides. Either way they're great fun and very reridable
David that's fascinating while still haven't been to Tripsdrill, Na Fianna Force is actually my 4th favourite coaster but then I was extremely lucky to get both a day and night ride on Hyperia, I will of course be going back to Thorpe again when Hyperia reopens up
Great review, on a coaster with a mess of track like this the diagram really helps explain what’s happening? Can the seats ‘swing’ they look like they are pivoted at the top the with the cross braces being dampeners?
The mapped diagram actually started out with my review of F.L.Y. , wish I'd a much crazier mess of track! The seats don't swing freely, they may have some dampers and socks but I think they're more part of the suspension than anything to have the coaster swinging
Great review had lot of fun exploring this land with you. I honestly prefer this to something like Nemesis probably because prefer Airtime and floaty moments to poitives.
Damn, I thought living in Scotland was frustratingly far away from any roller coasters, Hawaii must be the furthest away you can get from any coaster on the planet!
@@RollercoasterDavid i would have to agree! It's sad really but I just have to savor any rides i can get while on vacation! Im proud to say that I got to ride Hakugei, Eejenaika, Flying Dinosaur and SD2000 last year though. Hoping to get back to japan soon for some rerides.... Thank you for the great videos man. I am on team Hakugei with you as well... absolute monster of a rollercoaster and about as perfect as it gets!
I’ll never tire of following the white dot in real time. 😂 I found Hals über Kopf more fun than I had expected, so no surprise that this one is great, too.
@@RollercoasterDavid Your reviews do have their own style and they’re excellent. I have little doubt that if you somehow had the capacity to crank them out at the pace Canobie Coaster, Airtime Thrills, or Coaster Studios do, your channel would explode. But I suggest you keep your day job and save your sanity. I enjoy your vids at whatever the frequency of output.
The last few videos have done quite well considering the size of the subscriber base of this channel. I should probably try and post to a schedule, but things with my real job have been rather stressful lately!
@@RollercoasterDavid There’s a small part of me that likes the idea of creating a coaster channel, but then my real job and its time demands look at that thought and laugh. I don’t know how you do it.
Wow what a strange layout. First half is OK, decent drop for invert, seems there might even be an airtime pop, then it just meanders and literally does nothing after the second inversion for the entire rest of the ride. Boring. Why when they could have put anything they wanted did they go for a layout like this?
Fun fact: the second launch on Voltron is actually a block zone, if the ride gets stuck it can be used as a swing launch, boosting the train back into the layout!
