The book covers at @0:24 will always be THE covers for me. I'll accept no others, sorry haha. Those are the covers I remember seeing on my mum's bookshelf that intrigued me and they're the covers I knew as the books were released over the years.
My oldest sister was the perfect age to read all the Harry Potter books as they came out. I wasn't into reading back then, but I used to look at the covers and wonder, and for some reason, that "order of the phoneix" cover is permanently burned into my mind, and I strongly associate it with her, specifically the version of her that was just a kind, caring, older sister, before her life took a dark turn. She's since passed away, but sometimes the small things, like this video, bring back good memories. It might be a bit morbid, but I hope Jason knows that his artwork will forever have a deep emotional impact on me, and I appreciate it endlessly.
4:51 I'm not sure that was a mistake. I've always thought of Harry's scar being above his right eye like in the movies, but I'm not sure the books ever ACTUALLY say anything more specific than "forehead", so it may still be compatible with the books.
darn lol, my favourite classic goosebumps cover isnt even jacobus' hahaha ive always been enamored by the stay out of the basement cover. then lo and behold i grow up to find out i have a borderline creepy fascination with hands
@@ART-efacts interestingly enough, I wasn't surprised. Even as a kid I always noticed that that cover had a very different vibe and look to it and that distinction only became more apparent the older I got (especially because I became an artist myself which gave me an eye for this stuff lol)
I think it's only a matter of time before your channel "hits it big." I think you'll look back on these early videos and see them as kindling for a bonfire. Or something. Good channel, deserves more attention. That's all I'm trying to say.
Really interesting stuff. I think Half Blood Prince captures Harry's age better than most covers. While I like the Jonny Duddle covers, I think Harry looks like he never ages.
Not gonna lie but I bought the adult cover for the deathly hallows because I didn't like the children's one. However, my absoloute favourite is the order of the phoenix. Your current style though is exquisite!!!!!
I remember seeing those in book stores and it was like a glimpse into the future movies. They just sparked as much imagination as the written contents did.
wild how the plot of the devil wears prada revolves around the harry potter cover artist having the manuscript and in reality he didn't even get the manuscript!
03:12 I bought the Lego UCS AT-AT precisely because of this guy’s cross-sectional illustrations of the AT-AT from the book I had as a kid! I display the Lego set like his illustration with sections of the set removed so you can see the interior! And yes it is full up with speeder bikes and a bunch of Lego snow troopers and scout trooper minifigures! 😂
Great video. I never liked these covers to be honest. Especially the faces 😂 but watching this now. I do appreciate it more. ( he completely surprised me by saying the super short deadline took pressure off! 😂)
I always thought the cover for the last book was an odd choice. It’s a strange scene to pick, and I agree that a darker image would’ve suited the tone of the book more. It makes sense that it was made in such a disjointed way.
We also got those covers in Canada and I was always happy about that. I was at one point designing a big HP cross-stitch for myself and I loved the style of the Order of the Phoenix cover and his interpretation of the Phoenix, it inspired me a lot.
I'd love to hear her answer. I feel like it must be the first one. Seeing that on the shelf in Waterstones or WHSmith after the lengths she went to get it published must have been very impactful.
@@joe5922 You're probably right. I remember watching the Lifetime movie about her life as a kid and I remember her being so happy when she saw that original UK cover.
Those 'adult' covers are so bland. Is adult another way of saying boring? Should I be thinking of taxes as I look at those covers? Perhaps it might just be an overdone style that I'm sick of seeing though. However the 'children's' covers remain iconic, and they are so for a reason; they're great.
