So I'm a little confused now with the electric lock option. We have a metal frame glass door out front that doesn't have a latch (like the little thingy that you'd turn a door knob to unhook the door from the plate/frame to open it). It's just a handle and you pull or push to open the door, and it has a lock that latches when we close up for the day. We want to do an electric lock but not sure if that would work in our door situation. Would the electric lock make the lock itself turn to lock/unlock as we push the Exit button (or swipe to enter), if that makes sense..? Or would we have to use the magnetic lock option since there's no door latch thingy?
Don't buy this stuff if you live in the UK. The returns process is done by sending stuff to the Netherlands. Your products get customs charges for returns! This stuff is garbage! I was offered instore credits to cover the customs charges! I will not be buying more items to send to the Netherlands! Very poor customer service.
There are lots of UK based suppliers with a simple UK based returns process. I’d be interested to know why you think the cameras are ‘garbage’ and what you are using instead.
I don’t think I see the bridge option for my gaming router (TP-Link Archer GX90 / AX6600 ). How would I get that router to work mine? It tells me to go to given IP, then go Settings>Advanced Settings>Advanced Setup>Bridge on the app itself for my specific router, but I’m missing advanced setup and etc after that. Help?
I am interested in purchasing the Hub to control a side door next to my exit gate at a condo and I was thinking if is possible to use the Poe out put ports for two cameras and a door reader… The three ports are Poe and 15w max each. Thanks in advance.
They need to allow users to be door attendants and incorporate it into the identity app. Then the users will only need one app for Wi-Fi, VPN, doors and intercom.
Hi does this mean ill get internet connection to say a fire stick that is connected to the tv as well or will i still need to relay on my temperamental WiFi connection
It would be better to go straight to the lock than the reader. Too much at stake to rely on reader in my view. You can activate emergency via the app or desktop which will open all door or lock all doors depending on the requirement.
Good question. Yes all cameras were on at the same time so there would be more IR being emitted. I did try with cameras on individually but the difference was minimal. There were also 3 other non Ubiquiti cameras emitting IR.
Great video, tnx for sharing. I do think it is a safety feature not being able unlock the door if the app is not running, what if someone steals your phone? Question, does it unlock the door if the phone is locked while the app is running? 🤔 I got me the G2 pro kit, I could have saved a bit if I known this device existed 😹
Nice video! I have a flat high performance dish. Building a site network with a Dream Machine Pro. Is the Starlink router required at all? Can't I connect the dish directly into WAN port on the DMP?
@@home.network.solutions the high performance comes with a power supply and no router. I found a DIY article from a Ubiquity admin that details how to hook dish up directly to Dream Machine Pro.
@@home.network.solutions I guess that's changed since your video. The HP dish no longer comes with a router, but does ship with power supply. I found a tutorial for connecting directly to DMP.
Followed the instructions, which were very good, and it will work for awhile and then my devices that I have routing through the VPN will stop working. If I login to Unifi the VPN still says connected, but nothing seems to route through it. If I pause the VPN connection for a few minutes, then resume it, it will fix the issue. However it will eventually come back. Not sure the timeframe it starts working, but I at least have to do this routine on a weekly basis. Any thoughts?
Hello, Please help me, I am in the process of setting up a WiFi network using Starlink and need to distribute the internet signal through 13 Ubiquiti U6+ Access Points. I recently purchased a USW-Pro-24-POE (400W) switch, which appears suitable for effectively unifying the network. Could you please advise on what other Ubiquiti equipment is the most economical yet effective to ensure the unification of all Access Points into a cohesive network that operates optimally? Thank you very much for your assistance, and I look forward to your guidance.
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes, we offer consultation services and will be able to plan the details of your deployment for you. Please email us info@hns-berks.co.uk to discuss your requirements.
Yep agree I would always prefer to use a VPN as I said in the video. However we have had scenarios where a VPN has not been possible for reasons, normally because of an unwillingness to adapt to newer ways of doing things either from the client or more often security companies. All we can do is make as secure as possible.
Normally the old router would not be required. The idea is that your third party router replaces the old one. If you do have two routers for whatever reason then you would not need to use PPPoE on the second router it would most likely be a static ip or DHCP.
It's easy. Don't use the travesty that is Unifi. Ubiquiti Networks was a fantastic company back when they did access points and only access points, and allowed you to manage everything on prem. That's how they broke into the market when they were small and hungry back in 2009-2012. Since then they have gone to shit. They long since devolved into trying to be an "everything ecosystem" with proprietary routers, switches, etc. etc. I hated every second of that. The massive hack, and simultaneously trying to force all Unifi Video users onto their compromised cloud service by discontinuing the on prem server software was the last straw for me. Never go for ecosystems. Never go for cloud. Go best in class for every component separately, and always manage it locally. I moved away from them long ago. I'm now on OPNSense router (custom build) Mikrotik switches (using SwOS) and Ruckus access points (using Unleashed) and couldn't be happier. At any time after January 2021, I wouldn't touch Unifi with a proverbial 39.5ft pole.
FYI: I don't ever reboot the UDMP, I just go to Unifi OS -> Applications and then stop and start talk - then wait a few mins and then outbound works. Just updated to talk 3.2.2 and still have to swap PCMU to PCMA (6 replacements).
It will depend. If you have your mesh system setup to be in ‘router mode’ then yes you will ideally want to bypass. If you are using the mesh system in ‘access point mode’ then you won’t. Thanks for watching 🙏
The 4 device limit is a no-go. I had purchased two of these for 'smaller' clients. It's so easy to go over the 4 item quickly. Even a 10 device limit adds up quick.
Absolutely it’s very easy to go over! But the price is very good and it will be a good starter for some people starting out with Unifi. Thanks for watching 🙏
The 4 device limit is for the gateway express. Not the gateway lite. I have 10 devices on my UXG-lite network: 2-APs, 3-switches, Cloud Key G2 Plus, 3 Cameras, & the UXG-lite. I run Wireguard, IPS/IDS, etc.
Is the issue with WPA2 and WPA3 and Wifi 6GHZ not being compatible just a Unbiquty issue or a standards issue. For example, have other vendors figured out how to do it? If it is a standards issue does Wifi 7 fix it?
Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you know if this can handle a 900mbps internet connection? I'm pretty sure it does but I have seen some conflicting information causing me to have some doubts.
I’ve not specifically tested it on a 900Mbps connection but I don’t imagine that would be a problem especially as it has a 2.5Gbps WAN port. Thanks for watching 🙏
Still at a loss as to why UniFi don't make a Nano station that runs off standard PoE voltages. They work well though and I now get 500Mbit in my garden shed ;-). Nice video
Great Viideo. But I still need to be convinced to put my Network Controller on an actual device. I like having a separate VM running (on my server) which I can easily backup or restore completely independent of the key Unifi Devices. If the Gateway crashes or corrupts and it holds the network controller. I can't just factory reset it, and pop it back into action. No, I need to recover the network controller etc ll first - and do it all via SSH or such. That was why I decided against the Dream machines. I loved the idea and prices of the Gateway Ultra but knowing it has it's own NC put me off. I'm not sure why Ubiquiti can't give us the option of running NC on the device or having it separate. It seems that all their products you have to choose based on the product and not the config. Also, One then cannot have more than one such device on the same site. Such as Point to Point VPN between 2 locations. they have to be on different sites ( well not actually sites as they don't really have sites as they are single site controllers) - And I know they can all connect to one Unif account but still can be convenient to have them on a single network linked by VPN. It's a shame the max is so much more $$$ as the Ultr has a great price point
I agree to a point but if you have your controller backed up then it’s fairly easy to factory reset and restore from a cloud backup. We use servers for many of our smaller deployments and that’s great but it means you don’t get some of the features such as Teleport and Speedtest. Like you say the price point is great so I can’t really find too many faults with it! Thanks for watching 🙏
